New Baselang user with initial thumbs up
I ve only been trying out Baselang for the past couple of days so it might be a little premature to review the platform at this stage My initial observations are All of the instructors I ve used eight in total have been friendly encouraging and patient I m used to being in Mexico or Latin America at this time of year but circumstances have required me to be in Canada at the moment My daily conversations with Baselang teachers satisfy my need to connect with Latinos while strengthening my resolve to become fluent in Spanish The support from the Baselang administration team has been absolutely stellar To date my teachers have been native Spanish speakers mostly from Ecuador and Venezuela It s been almost impossible to schedule 30-minute sessions with Mexican teachers Given my travel focus is Mexico I might need to consider another platform e g italki that facilitates easy access to Mexican teachers Given my interest in practising conversation I ve had minimal exposure to the Baselang curriculum I encourage instructors to use Baselang lessons more as a springboard for conversation The format is neither engaging nor inspiring as a standalone course but we ll see if my experience changes over time The format reminds me of using a textbook or following PowerPoint presentations An app such as Duolingo is much more dynamic and interactive Baselang is meeting my needs for daily Spanish conversation and represents good value for my dollar so far
