Be very Careful
It s not Europcar it s Tempest and we felt they were very dishonest about the final price We were excessively overcharged DO NOT USE THEM or if you do do it online and double tripple check all the extras which we did not need we made it clear we didn t need We have been left feeling very foolish because we were too trusting what should have cost us 149 actually cost us 315 A quick signature and a few initials after a long flight and they got us be careful don t let them get you too I have made an official enquiry complaint direct to Europcar and Tempest Europecar won t do anything because we signed and allowed them to do this to us and Tempest still haven t replied

Europcar SA is a gang of highwaymen masquerading as a car rental company They rob the clients of their deposits by inventing all sorts of claims against their clients My case is as follows In terms of my policy I was provided by my insurer with a courtesy car for the duration of a repair After failing to show up for the handover of their vehicle at the panel beater Europcar raised a claim against me for Flat left rear tyre and the proceeded to invoice and retain the following amounts R 290 00 for that alleged never sent shown any proof R 285 93 for refueling and refueling service fee adjustment Note I drove the car fo a whopping 11km km on a flat tyre from my home to the panel beaters - what a guzzler they gave me R 1350 42 for Damage Liability-Super and Claim Admin Fee After writing my first review on Hellopeter I received a call from Europcar and was informed the assistant that she will escalate it with the Krugersdorp Branch Europcar then added insult to the injury by crediting me with R 285 93 For an alleged unproven claim of a flat tyre they still hang on to R 1640 42 As far as I know to plug a damaged tyre can be done anywhere for less than R 100 00AVOID Europcar - they stink from here to the end of our solar system

europcar the deposite is a scam
Early this year in January I was highjacked my insurance King price arranged a courtesy car from Europcar and I had to pay R2500 As a deposit before getting the car they said that I would get my deposit back a week down I was in an accident a 3rd party bumped me from the back I was stopped at the red traffic light and it was raining and the 3rd party hit me from the back he failed to stop at the red traffic light and hit me from my back and I bumped the car in front so the rental car was overheating and I could not drive to work or drop my kids at school so I had to get the other car from Europcar and they said I had to pay an R4000 excess fee before I got the car so I didn t have the 4k so I contacted the 3rd party as he was the one who put me in the situation for driving reckless when its raining and the guy understood and paid the excess fee R4000 and i got the car his insurance settled the mater and paid for the car but now Europcar refuses to pay me back the deposit R2500 and claim that Im still owing them R25018 because the excess fee of R4000 was paid from the 3rd party But I mean all that was owed to them was paid and they received the money so how do I still owe them the R2500 ord and they put me on Blacklist and destroy my name and they refuse to pay me back my deposit please don t use Europcar use other car rentals and stay away from Europcar they are scams trying to find extra ways to make money try to request your insurance to use other car rentals

AVOID Cheats and scoundrels
Dropped the car back off at Port Elizabeth after filling up Keys were whipped away from me after a perfunctory check I asked for documentation to confirm everything was in order but was told my card deposit would be released after one week One week later A charge on my card for 77 72 with no explanation I have tried calling but no one picks up the phone I wished I had read these reviews in advance of the booking Luckily I have a video of the return which proves everything was in order so will eventually get my money back

HORRIBLE COMPANY STAY AWAY
Similarly to the previous reviews we were also charge AUD1071 immediately as opposed to a bond type of sittuation which is usually the case with rental companies We were also charge for an additional driver we never agreed to contract We were also charged for a damaged we didn t do They think they play with your deposit and charge whatever they want It s been 14 days and we have not received the deposit back I chose Europcar as they are well known but I wish I read the reviews first please DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THESE SCAMMERS I have emailed their customer service several times with no response I then emailed the supervisor of cape town airport branch and he has been just as useless Chocking

Worst rental company ever
Worst rental company ever Charged me for damages that I never incurred They had the cheek to email me to say that the car is normally pre inspected and that it is my responsibility to upload any damages The inspector that we spoke to at George airport said that he would upload all the additional damages and some we were not to worry about clearly not Will never use Tempest or europcar ever again

Avoid Europcar at Cape Town airport at all costs They have retained my R11620 deposit for over 2 weeks already due to a claim against me for a 3 inch scratch on a hub cap which was already scratched and had paint defects They are impervious to rationale requests to return the bulk of the money and say that the delay could be several more weeks yet They clearly have a policy of gouging income from their post rental practices Avoid Avoid Avoid

Added extra charges to our booking for not refuelling when I literally filled it about 5km from the airport Asking me to provide proof of refuelling Also added on admin fees without mentioning it Cars were in poor condition having booked a polo we got a much worse Suzuki swift Assumed a bigger company would be decent not the case

I hired a car for 20 days from Claremont Cape Town I was thankful that it was a Sunday we were late the place had just closed we called them and they came out of the way from somewhere to let us pay and sign for the car up to 15 mins out of closing time That was a great start So was thankful for that I paid for 20 days car hire as well as a damage waiver fee and a deposit of R11 100 AUD 945 I only received R6166 80 AUD 525 deposit back That s R4 406 80 AUD 375 99 missing Basically A LOT of money The people at Claremont Europcar have no sense of urgency and are not helpful They messsd up my email address on account so I had to ring South Africa from Australia to get the invoice sent weeks after they had taken my bond - with no explanation They don t send things when they re supposed to or ring back when they re supposed to I ve had to call fret and email multiple times to try and get some answers and my bond back According to the invoice there was a smaller refuelling fee the cost of refuelling even though my tank showed FULL and a bigger admin fee of some type which they said could be due to a fine Even still there s A LOT of deposit still missing with no explanation I ve emailed someone and they said they ll enquire into what s happened This is now a week ago This has been dragging on for months now I arrived in Cape Town on 31st October 2024 I arrived back in Sydney on 29 November 2024 It s now 14 January 2025 It s left a sour taste in my mouth and ruined my holiday experience I ve never had a problem with hire cars before and I always got my deposit back This has really annoyed me off I don t like Cape Town and South Africa theres a lot of crooks and the countrys bad I d NEVER live there I won t ever pay for another car hire there again especially EUROPCAR Claremont and Cape Town Airport The whole thing stinks
