Visiting Goddards brewery Isle of Wight
Goddards beers are no stranger to me in fact my local pub serves both their strangely named Fuggle De Dum and their GSB Goddards Special Bitter This however was the first time I had visited their Isle of Wight brewery restaurant at Arreton The restaurant had only just changed its hours we visited in late afternoon and were able to learn a few things about the brewery from staff as we were the only customers at first I expect that this will change quite soon as soon as local people hear about the new longer hours My thanks to Lorraine who talked us through the range of beers and made us welcome Additionally and especially to the boss Robert Bob Simpson who although clearly quite busy spent some time giving us a potted history of the brewery The restaurant itself is raised above the brewery so that you can look down upon the brewing floor Previously you would have had to become a member to enjoy the facilities though this has now been curtailed If you want to know how your beer is brewed I recommend that you call in and take the brewery tour On a final note Goddards brew a traditional Benedictine ale for Quarr Abbey at Ryde I hadn t seen it available anywhere before and it is nectar
