Extremely poor customer service
My experience with the Hertz airport staff was pretty decent - nobody tried to upsell any services or extras and I picked up the car pretty quickly because I was lucky there were not many people waiting before me I also had low expectations about the car so I wasn t surprised when for an Audi A3 or similar I got a Renault The problem is their customer service At the desk I was told once the toll charges get to them I ll get a receipt and my credit card will be charged My card was promptly charged but I never got a receipt I reached out multiple times to the customer service but only got the automatic response and nothing else back This is unacceptable and I wouldn t want to pay for charges on my card that I have no receipts for I will be raising this with my card company

Do NOT use Discover Car Hire and or Hertz-Dollar in Lisbon I recently rented a car with Discover Car Hire and was quoted 127 for a three day rental The voucher had a mileage limit that could be unlocked at 18 EUR day Hertz said their charge was 80 EUR day at the rental counter I called discover car hire and they said to pay the charge and that they would reimburse me Upon closer look at the Hertz receipt 45 EUR is listed for unlimited mileage and 150 EUR for a vehicle upsell charge that discover car hire will not reimburse Both companies are unethical and will try to scam you Stay far away

very unsatisfied Booked in advance in Lisbon Airport 1 Make sure to have a confirmed email including the total price with the basic insurance cover third party CDW theft fire before coming to the front desk counter Otherwise the insurance fee will be completely unreasonable The difference for the same vehicle can be more than 1000 Just a scam 2 Inconsistencies between what customer support tells you and what you receive and when you receive it 3 Flat tire just a few km out of the airport on the highway No spare tire They were not willing to send someone with a replacement tire or replacement car We had to wait in the middle of nowhere for a taxi back to the airport for about 1 hr and waste the entire day replacing the car

Charging after a month without receipts or notification
So I had my deposit returned in full all good so far After a month my credit card was charged for 17 14 and 1 50 in 2-day intervals by the Portuguese and Spanish Hertz no receipt no e-mail no phone call AMEX has refunded these charges I m very sorry to give a bad review but this is just unacceptable retail behaviour bordering fraud Just avoid them At least I will never bother with them in ANY country EVER again

Horrible Customer Service and Scam
We rented a van with Hertz for 3 days A few things bothered us about the experience 1 After negotiating the price for the rental at the end they added an additional 100 for taxes even though in Europe tax is typically included in the original price 2 We rented a van and the employee told us specifically that it uses gasolina 95 gas However when we went to fill up the tank it said Diesel I tried calling for assistance to make sure but their customer call service is horrendous and always automatically hangs up We had to drive back to the rental place to ask them specifically and then drove back to the gas station Super annoying and almost seemed like a scam of misinformation 3 We put down a 100 Euro deposit for the gas and even after returning the van back with a full tank they still haven t returned the deposit And again I can t call to get in contact with them Overall not a good place to rent a car at all and the prices were not even that cheap

Avoid HERTZ at all costs
Avoid HERTZ at all costs HERTZ is the only rental company in the world to NOT charge your credit card for fines tolls incurred They send your details to the toll operators instead who in turn send their debt collector attack dogs I ended up paying 245 for a 28 euro toll charge They hate their customers AVOID

Stay away from Hertz Portugal I rented a car in Lisbon last month Unexplained extra charges billed a month after I returned home No receipt They also charged for CDW insurance and gas even though I refused multiple times I m now contesting the charges with my CC company but not hopeful Fraudulent

ay attention This company does not earn its money by the vehicle rental service but rather by lots of tricks hidden in the contracts whose effect will be to extract money from you by parallel channels They will then take no action on your complaints Go your way don t let them steal your money I ve never had a bad surprise with Sixt for example

They are scamming on the extra
They are scamming on the extra insurance and local charges they tried to charge me 320 euro for 4 days in January I refused the changes to the contract at the desk and went next door to eurocar despite being a goldcard member and renting 3-4 times per year for over 12 years now from Hertz at Faro No integrity
