Not as advertised dirty unsafe and smelly cottage with limited views and not easily accessible to shoreline as claimed

We stayed with Menai cottages last year at Mon a Menai The cottage was very dirty and smelt really badly So much so we resorted to sitting in the kitchen the only updated and reasonably clean room in the cottage The carpet was off the runners leaving nails exposed the settee was filthy and smelt covered in dog hair and dirt The windows covered in dog paw marks The towels were by no means fluffy or new Rusty pipes in bathroom leaking with cake tin underneath and a 1970 s pink bathroom which needs updating Toilet mat which upon lifting exposed an extremely stained and smelly carpet We were told that the cottage was easily accessible to the shoreline It was not It involved going up a two steep roads up to the main road walking along it and then back down another footpath When you reached the footpath you could not actually access the shoreline which is what the advertisement implied It also stated there were views of the boats going up and down the Menai Straits This was not the case the view was overgrown and there was a small window of opportunity to see the boats We did complain on day one to try and resolve the issues They sent someone around to take a look the lady they sent had no sense of smell Nothing was done to rectify the issues I was travelling with my daughter who is disabled it was imperative the property was as advertised Despite recognising the exposed nails they did not rectify this issue I chased the issues but still no help I complained on returning They were not interested They carried out another inspection and reported that the property smelt and that there were exposed nails and some dirt despite my photographic evidence they refused to accept the other issues or remedy the issue as they claim they will on their website I issued a claim in the small claims court They stated that the claim was not with them but the owner For whom they had given no details for and who was apparently not interested in accepting fault Just before the court case it was settled by the owner out of court The owner stated I wish these issues with disability had been flushed out prior to your stay I booked what I thought was a clean smell free safe and accessible property - I did not think I had to describe every medical issue or disability we had Be careful They really are not interested in ensuring what they are advertising is actually what you get and do not care once you are in the cottage

Stay Well Away from this Company

The description of the route to the cottage was extremely economical in the truth department The cottage was filthy We took photographs and sent them to it They would not take any responsibility whatsoever and eventually sent a cleaner We could not stay in the hovel and they did nothing to try and find us somewhere else to stay This occurred on the Saturday and it is now Monday We received an email late yesterday to say that they would do nothing

Will never ever book with this company again We stay in the UK especially Wales regularly and after a stay at one of their properties we were accused of leaving the property in a poor state and leaving dog urine and poo in the property We contested everything we were accused of a lot of what was said was not even possible The company did absolutely nothing to back us up as customers they did not answer our questions or in anyway stay impartial In there mind the owners were right no discussion We have never ever been accused of the things we were at this property and most of our security deposit was withheld Basically menai holidays care about money not the customers or the customers holiday or feelings do not book as you don t know what you are getting or getting thrown back at you when you leave there properties Would give 0 out of 5 if I could

Had to change holiday dates due to the virus as we were ment to be going 24th April received an email saying if our date change was more than what we ve paid then we would have to pay the difference but we ve paid 480 in one go our date change holiday is 405 a difference of 75 but been told we will not be getting the 75 back we would loose that cause we oaid it in a lump sum last year if we cancel it we would loose all our money It s not fair that we are loosing out 75 is a lot of money for us as my husband is the only wage earner in the house as I have a disability after the Sept holiday we will not be booking with these again we are disgusted the way we will be out if pocket but if the holiday was more we would have to pay the difference something wrong here Not a happy customer at all very disappointed

This company should be ashamed of their practices Holiday booked for within next 6 weeks and rightly following Government Advice not allowing you to go to the cottage BUT they will not refund Disgraceful they are trying to get you to amend your booking or cancel so that they can keep your money and if you don t want to do that then they will keep all your money Modern day thieves profiteering from this terrible national emergency Be ashamed at steeling people s hard earned money

Never book with Menai Holidays

Menai holidays should be absolutely ashamed of themselves During a global and national emergency when people cannot travel due to the coronavirus lockdown they are insisting on company terms and conditions and refusing to refund our booking This is simply appalling behaviour for any company at any time but especially now when so many people are struggling and deeply concerned about money The T C s that state that cancellations are not allowed are hidden deep in their website and not flagged up at the time of booking The company state that they are allowing amendments to bookings so customers can move to another time If you don t actually want to move to another time - as I don t - then it s just too bad Indecent and truly dreadful way to treat customers at a time like this When I queried it with them they sent me the most evasive and pointless response imaginable It s simply not good enough to say you can t have a refund during a NATIONAL LOCKDOWN I will never use this company again and recommend everyone avoid them like COVID-19

Now owned by Sykes - nightmare

Menai Holidays is now owned by Sykes Cottages - avoid at all costs Pass the buck to the owner whenever there is a problem and unfairly say they have no responsibility even though holidays are booked with them and funds paid to Sykes We had dealings with Menai before they were bought by Sykes and they were fine but sadly no more Many independent cottage brands have been bought out by Sykes so check the T C s before booking

DO NOT book with the company

DO NOT book with the company I rang 3 times before we arrived as I had read bad reviews re cleanliness etc and my husband has been shielding Nobody rang me back eventually on my 4th call I was assured that the housekeeping issues had been resolved Not so And I have a selection of photos as proof The set up at the top of the stairs as you come out of the middle bedroom is highly dangerous and I cannot believe any holiday company would pass this - my husband fell badly and bashed his knee which was painful and very swollen so that put paid to our planned walks and we had to buy painkillers and anti inflammatory drugs To put the tin hat on it I left a brand new pair of jeans on a hook on the back of the bedroom door I have had to make TEN phone calls over three and a half weeks apparently nobody could get hold of the caretaker I was told that they hadn t been found and someone else was staying there now So if the place had been cleaned properly they would have been found I was promised so many times that I would be called back and this happened twice Absolutely disgusting

Capel Ogwen Dirty unloved property

Capel Ogwen The only nice thing about this property is its location so if you re looking for somewhere to spend quality time with friends or family - find somewhere else On arrival we were greeted by an appallingly dirty kitchen ovens cutlery cupboards and hand written notes telling us the oven wasn t working and that we should not light the open fire as the chimney was blocked Also handles were missing off cupboard doors in the kitchen leaving screws sticking out instead A phone call to Menai was met with a surly response and no apology The staff who attended to perform the supposed deep clean the following day rudely and angrily complained to us that they had to give up my Sunday for you After their visit there was still filth left on the kitchen floor and loose left over sweetcorn in the freezer Unacceptable There was no spare cupboard space for food items and the fridge freezer size is completely inadequate for a property supposed to accommodate 12 people There was damp peeling plaster in the lounge and the sofas were so grubby we had to cover them with our own blankets before we could sit on them The dining room table was covered in a sticky film making it too gross to use Bed mattresses are old lumpy and uncomfortable and the difficulty sleeping was not helped by the cockerels in the hen house next door crowing loudly from 3 30am til dawn The two showers both have black grimy sealants on the interior - the sort of shower cabinet where you don t want to be in there in case you touch the sides We expected to be compensated for the dreadful state we found this property in and sent photographs- but No - Menai and the owners refused to consider any monetary recompense whatsoever Will not use this company again and suggest you don t either
