I signed onto Outco s app booster
I signed onto Outco s app booster program a year ago The program parameters seemed simple enough Take some initial courses give them a resume they agreed they could work with show up to any interviews that came my way do a weekly update and take one class a week After a year if I am under-employed I am released from any obligation to them and I will continue to have access to their resources in the future I started satisfied with the program There were coaches to help me practice interviewing and give constructive feedback There were leet code instructors to walk through algorithmic fundamentals and offer constructive feedback for technical interviews They submitted applications on my behalf and offered me a spreadsheet to reference if I had any hits and needed to prepare for an interview They assigned me a one-on-one coach to meet with weekly to help guide me through the job search process That lasted for a week The first week they ended the one-on-one assigned coaches no more weekly sessions it became - schedule a meeting with someone if you needed to talk about something Then they stopped tracking data for applications so I would get emails requesting an interview but I wouldn t know what I applied for and there would be no job description to reference I emailed them to ask for a description and the response was that I should go search email logs Sometimes I was able to search email logs and then find a job title I could then reference on the company website to bring up a description but at least once I went in blind to an interview having no idea what I had applied to At one point I got contacted on my personal email that a recruiter had bothered to look up She said- Excuse me can I ask where you got your cover letter I just got dozens of applications from similar-looking emails each with an identical cover letter and I am trying to figure out what is going on is this spam Whoever is doing your cover letters they are doing you a disservice In the end they just spammed Indeed on my behalf then I would get dozens of emails asking me to go to the actual company website to complete my application This amount of effort was underwhelming I can spam Indeed After my year was up they started harassing me claiming that I violated my obligations to the program three warnings would result in me owing them a 6500 program fee So far they tried to penalize me for not going to an interview that was never scheduled Then they tried to penalize me for not going to an interview for a position outside the parameters of the program they applied to an industrial engineer position I am a software engineer Then they tried to penalize me for not informing them I accepted work that was outside the requirements of the contract and I also informed them they didn t track the email Then they tried to penalize me for not completing a technical screen that had a broken link The latest they tried to penalize me for not completing a review recap for what ended up being an automated vocabulary test I have emailed them repeatedly in the last month to request a statement that I am no longer beholden to the program I am still waiting and many of my peers were subjected to collection notices today through retroactive penalization When I tried to talk about it in a public forum I was removed from slack In all fairness I have become a much better interviewee and a much better job applicant through this process The program does have value though perhaps not the job application part of it at this point However any goodwill I had for Outco has been lost with their heavy-handed tactics and the graceless way in which they have handled the end-of-contract process I learned a lot from Outco but while I completed their contract in good faith I am unable to say the same of them

Worst investment
Title Not Worth the InvestmentMy experience with Outco has been disappointing and I feel compelled to share my thoughts While I understand that programs evolve the current state of Outco leaves much to be desired It s evident that the program s priorities have shifted with a focus that seems more on financial gains than the students success The lack of organization communication issues and a seemingly indifferent approach to student concerns have turned what might have been a promising program into something far less valuable I acknowledge that programs can change over time but the current state of Outco has left me questioning its worth If you re considering investing time and money I strongly recommend thorough research and consideration of your options It s disheartening to see a program that may have had its merits in the past deteriorate to its current state I found a job without their help

Outco is a Scam
Outco and their guarantee are unequivocally a scam I signed up for their Application Booster program followed their program definitively underwhelmed with the services provided and did not receive an offer No big deal didn t work out move on right Wrong Outco is trying to insist I still owe them the program fee despite the fact that I did not receive an offer and fulfilled their contract requirements I even consulted with a contract lawyer to make sure everything was in the clear and the lawyer agreed the contract is over and no fee is owed Outco won t hear it and is continually harassing me to pay them Talking with them about it is useless it s as if Aleen and Outco in general haven t actually read the contract they have you sign since they contradict it so often Save yourself the time and frustration Their services are not worth the headache

It s a trap
They apply to irrelevant jobs then you waste your time attending interviews you don t want or not eligible for You waste hours doing assessments for companies that will never interview you because your resume and work experience doesn t meet their criteria Or they will apply to jobs middle of no where that you never agreed on I m a junior front-end web developer and they apply to jobs like Lead AI Engineer Chief Technology Officer iOS App Developer Mobile UI Developer Application Development Supervisor SharePoint Designer Blockchain Developer I have ZERO experience in any of these fields and have no interest in working as any of these positions You are still required to do them because if you miss 3 in a year they will offboard you and make you pay in full without getting you a job So I did them humiliated myself multiple times in front of interviewees wasting both of our time I guess that helped me become a better interviewer but it also made me think it s my fault and I m not capable Then you dive into depression while being unemployed and miss an assessment or their mandatory weekly reflections here and there and boom you re in their trap Now you are down 6 500 still have no job and have depression Don t let these scumbags take advantage of you The coaches instructors are fine but the people that work behind the scenes are soulless beings It doesn t matter if you bring up these concerns to them because they never reply back I ve tried to reach out to Allain multiple times month after month and still haven t received a single email back from her I ve had multiple conversations on phone with Daryl about these issues and all he can say is You either sign a new contract or pay the fees I laid out everything to him my concerns about the irrelevant jobs they apply for how much time I waste everyday doing stupid assessments for jobs I ll never get the reasons I got my initial warnings which btw I got because Outco stopped applying to jobs in the first place so I stopped following their program He didn t listen to any of it he just repeated the same thing over and over again didn t acknowledge anything I mentioned Now they want me to sign a new contract which I get no warnings if I miss a week or I pay the fee in full What if I have an emergency and miss something Too bad you re gonna have to pay the 6 500 I didn t even mention how atrocious their system is for letting you know what jobs they are applying to on your behalf At first they were using Airtable to log all the jobs but after a month that went away They don t let you know what they applied for you just have to do your own detective work and hope for the best There have been several interviews I ve taken without even knowing the job description No point of me asking because they never reply They keep doing what works for them and wait for you to fail so they can get their money Please avoid this program avoid the headaches avoid the soulless scumbags that ll ruin your life

It depends how well you know algorithms already and whether you just need practice or instructor-led classes
If you re like me and the bootcamp you paid 10 s of thousands of dollars to turned out to be the biggest mistake of your life OutCo is almost required to fill in the gaps left by said bootcamp dropping instructors and using place-holder content Another scenario would be if your coding bootcamp doesn t have a careers program included because the career services are useful when you re getting started on your job hunt I m not sure that it would be particularly useful to graduates from computer science programs because the majority of OutCo s value comes from the DS algo classes Given that the material is very challenging OutCo is likely worthwhile to those who have already been working as engineers for a while and looking to brush-up on DS algo before technical interviews The instructors are all very knowledgable greatest justification for OutCo being pricey and the content is descriptive and informative Most technical classes begin with an easy example to demo the concept followed by one or two challenging problems The group technicals are a bit more free-form and rely more on student involvement The mock tech interviews are very important if you have never done live technical interviews before a valuable experience System Design has been hit-and-miss over the years The behavioral interviewing practice LinkedIn profile reviews salary negotiation immigration etc you can usually handle during the initial course curriculum so they don t end up being weekly occasions OutCo used to offer assigned career counselors and I would be remiss if I didn t mention how invaluable Lauren was to me on so many occasions She was outstanding at helping me focus my job search and organize my life during what is always a grueling task Sometimes you need someone who gets it to privately vent your frustrations about industry hiring and to remind you that diet exercise and stress management are still important
