If it s QA please reconsider where you do your apprenticeship
I am fortunate enough to have joined a fantastic organisation as an apprentice software engineer Unfortunately QA is the apprenticeship provider and to be perfectly frank couldn t organise a knees-up in a brewery Totally disorganised with students unsure where we need to be and when and exactly what we need to be doing and how The teachers simply read off PowerPoints word for word for 3 hours FB is the exception Then we get lecturers turn up to class and admit they don t know how long the module will last or when assignment s are due for submission Then we re told that whole modules won t be taught to us and that we ll essentially have to teach ourselves to write software I mean what purpose is QA actually serving I mean other than acting as a giant opening where the government shovel taxpayer s money This experience with QA has totally undermined the initial excitement I felt when I was told I had been successful in my application for this position To the point where I m sadly considering walking away for my own health

This is a crime
If I could I would not give them even 1 star Two years ago started my course with them but after one year I decided to change University and everything began QA was telling me that I had no chance to go to my chosen university they had thousands of stupid excuses not to let me go there where I want but I did it Anyway I have confirmation from QA about my resignation and withdrawal of my application from the course Unfortunately they are blackmailing me for 2 years that I have to pay for my study even if I am not their student Joke I am thinking of taking them to court as this is a crime PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THEM

Terrible education
I joined a very good employer on a software engineering degree apprenticeship delivered by QA From the very start QA has been disorganised We as students don t know what we needed to do and when It feels like they re making it up as they go along The rubric for assignments is just not clear on what is required and questions to tutor s regarding this do not result in clear answers Quarterly meetings with the QA tutor is basically an hour with me and my manager sat there watching him copy and paste Total waste of time My employer and I have given QA over 3 months to improve and yet no improvement is evident For this reason I ll be resigning from my apprenticeship tomorrow as I refuse to undertake a degree that s totally disorganised and utterly unclear on what it is that students need to do I ll also be writing to the University of Roehampton the degree awarding institution about QA s academic standards lack of ----------Update Still haven t received a phone call as at 08 02 2023Update 02 04 2023 The programme leader did not reach out to me and although the Head of Quality e-mailed me I received no further response despite replying to his e-mail --------Update 16 10 2023This was never put right and the Head of Quality never had a conversation with me as promised All hot air and empty promises from QA Potential apprentices are strongly advised to find a better provider of software engineering apprenticeships

I have learnt nothing
2nd year of degree apprenticeship with QA as part of a large well known software company To sum up my experience Course material is irrelevant to my job degree Why am I learning about program management and data analytics when I am a software engineer Course material itself is both poor quality and poorly delivered It is high level to say the least and the instructor quality is very variable Some are very knowledgeable some struggle to read from a powerpoint God help you if you have to deal with QA s admin I d rather try to draw blood from a stone then email QA to get a problem fixed there will be many Assignments are very poor Nobody really knows what to write for them and the lecturers have even less of an idea Rubrics provide no useful info On multiple occasions assignment feedback has been completely wrong for everyone in the class The feedback and marks given are often detached from reality as if they have been made up on the spot Good luck trying to get it remarked - it has taken over half a year for me QA have a dire shortage of instructors This is partly why their quality of service is so poor All of this feedback and more has been sent off to QA and escalated by managers program leaders I have yet to see anything change I can confidently say that I have learnt nothing from the 1 5 years I ve been on this degree apprenticeship In fact it has been a net negative as time spent wasted on irrelevant assignments could have been spent learning on the job I advise never working with this company IF you want to learn something The silver lining is that since the assignments are such a joke you can get by by skipping all of the lectures and spending a day on the assignment once every 10 weeks Less work then a traditional degree but you learn nothing and have to fill the gaps yourself Pros Certain memebers of staff go agaisnt the grain of the company and try to provide a good experience They are few and far between I am convinced that QA are running a pseudo-scam here - provide the lowest quality of degree level education possible and pocket all of the money that should be spent on teaching staff and resources I would buy some shares if I could but I doubt they would ever arrive

I had a not so pleasant apprenticeship
I had a not so pleasant apprenticeship with this company It lead to being employed by a company that didn t have a clue how to deal and treat an apprentice I didn t receive proper training and this lead to leaving the role apprenticeship early The company is awful to communicate with Furthermore personal tutors aren t very helpful either I felt very mislead with my experience with QA I would definitely look at other apprenticeship companies agencies such as BALTIC Apprenticeships They seem to have their heads screwed on

Avoid at all costs
I have been studying with QA for 6 months now and I will soon be trying to move to a new provider If you re a company do not use QA until they thoroughly review their processes and their staffing Tutors appear to have little to no knowledge of subjects they teach The materials they provide are not kept up to date or relevantThe workshop sessions are next to uselessThey do not properly prepare your staff for assessments A number of complaints have been logged with a response which basically amounts to It s not our problem do your own research As a student who has completed another degree and another Apprenticeship QA are by far the worst provider I ve had the displeasure of working with EDIT This review was uploaded as the internal complaints procedure had no effect on the course quality

Please please if you value your education try a different provider
Condescending incoherent confusing unprofessional are some of the more publishable adjectives that I would use to describe QA After 2 years of study with this company I can no longer sit through any more of these workshops a workshop being an online lecture where the lecturer reads from a Power Point slide provides nonsensical answers to questions and sets up to three confusing breakout sessions with other confused students who are expected to present back their findings to the main session Another aspect of QAs terrible apprenticeship is the Study Coaches A mandatory but pointless tick-box exercise in which the coach is required to dispense advice from their extensive experience As a senior manager in an organisation of c 5 000 employees a large number of whom are or will undertake apprenticeships it is worrying to think that providers such a QA are churning out such low quality education into the workplace Perhaps I am being a bit too harsh as a 50 year old the apprenticeship was probably not the best route for my educational requirements but I can only judge based on my experience and observations I would definitely urge those considering QA as an option to widen your search to other providers There must be better quality apprenticeships than this If you are already studying with QA and are concerned about the quality of your education challenge them and raise it to the attention of your employers apprenticeship manager The best of luck to you all
