DISGUSTING ZOO
Where do I start from start to finish this place is an absolute JOKE Firstly when we arrived we had previously booked our tickets through Wowcher and we had the confirmation email on our phone etc When we showed the tickets over at the desk they said they can t accept a digital copy So we had to rebook at the desk so the total cost of the visit was 80 Baring in mind they had seen we bought tickets already but weren t willing to accept them When we finally got into the zoo there was literally barely NO animals to visibly look at We had to roam the full zoo to find animals most of the enclosures were empty the lemurs were locked away behind a glass enclosure which gives them no option to roam free the monkeys were locked in here too separate enclosure obviously The zebras were locked up in separate cages and the cages were TINY Meerkats were also locked away too but last time we visited the zoo they were actually allowed out They blamed it on the weather but it wasn t raining at all that day and it was very mild in temperature The tiger we managed to see was pacing around and just looked very stressed all of the bird enclosures were closed due to apparent bird flu so we couldn t walk through and there wasn t any birds there anyways to look at The emu that was visible was walking around limping and surely someone knew about this as there was a man standing around watching the emus The first cafe we then pasted by was absolutely FLITHY it was part of an enclosure that had a bear living in and it was stinking We couldn t wait to get out and that was just to visit the one bear Not the mention the cafe was wriggled with flys And people are actually meant to eat their food there We then past another little shack on our journey that was closed and looked like it had its day And then we past a ice cream shack that was supposed to sell sandwiches but had none I could understand if the day was busy with the public but it was practically empty that day and no had food To top it off you aren t allowed to bring your own food in and the little bit of food they did have available was RIDICULOUS in prices You literally have to take out a loan to visit this place So after a awful day and my daughters 2nd birthday ruined we reported to the reception to raise our concerns to be told by the manager herself if we want a refund we must email the page so that is what I have done And the response from the woman on that side was so unhelpful and inconsiderate and refusing to refund us And is only offering a 14 day free return even though I did mention it had taken us 6 hours in total to get there and back and the cost of petrol wasn t exactly cheap so why would I want to return to a awful zoo to cost us more petrol to get there finding time off work to experience the same thing as last time to then complain again It makes no sense at all This place doesn t even deserve a 1 start if I had a choice it would of have been a 0 I have in fact visited here twice previously and I must say it was massively gone down hill and it is not what it used to be

Very very disappointing visit
Very very disappointing visit Felt sorry for the animals as many had very limited space and all seemed sad and not happy at all Hugely overpriced with very inadequate food on offer considering you can t picnic there In fact the food was downright disgusting- do not have the hot dogs in a roll roll fell apart and sausage didn t fit in it and was inedible it s the worst we ve ever had and we threw it away but it kept on repeating on us making us feel ill Awful experience

These 5 star reviews are either paid
These 5 star reviews are either paid reviews or their own staff making accounts and posting There is absolutely no way anyone is getting their monies worth here From the awfully kept animals to the very rude ignorant and dirty minimum wage volunteer kids they employ here with clear learning and social difficulties The people that work here are McDonald s rejects 2 hour drive half the animals either don t exist or were unavailable to see Overgrown and dirty habitats dirty toilet facilities If they spent half the time on the park as they did on their gift shop to again make more money out of parents with young children it would be half decent Shocking experience from start the finish Not quite sure how it s still operating but the animals still clutching onto dear life that are housed here need moving to Cheshire and the owners managers need taking out back like old yella Certainly won t be going back

Oh dear
Oh dear From the filthy toilets to the dilapidated buildings and especially the weed filled animal enclosures this place needs a huge injection of cash and a major refurbishment It was so sad to see a little baboon trying to eat the litter that had been left in the enclosure The animals did appear to be well fed not surprising given the amount of feeding encounters they try to sell but their living conditions were really unpleasant It appeared that many were kept alone which also seemed very sad Could be a really nice day out with some care and TLC Such a shame

Unfortunate let down Much better zoo s and Safari s close by
Unfortunately comparing South Lakes Safari with other similar experiences we were extremely disappointed We ve been lucky enough to go to Edinburgh Blair Drummond North Yorkshire and even Northumberland Zoo s over the last few years and this was by far the worst Animal enclosures were covered in feacies and not well kept Staff were quite rude and the whole park seemed very run down and dated Apart from the kids play area I felt let down by the promise of a good family day out Dining at the on site Fish and Chip shop and queing for over 45minutes which is fine I witnessed a severe lack of hygiene Not one single table was wiped down and staff were not exactly practising safe food handling rules not 1 member of staff washed their hands while I was there I witnessed flies landing on numerous items of food before it was handed to customers For a park which must have a good revenue and income I expected better

Dont waste your money
They should refund or change dates Rather risk lives than change dates Weather warning for today we would be travelling over 2 hours with 5 children asked to change date and was told they are non transferable and non refundable should be ashamed of themselves

Sadly let down
Sadly let down we have been several times over the years and we were looking forward to this with our youngest son of 9yrs old and granddaughter of 3 yrs old It s in a terrible state more dilapidated and areas seemed closed off Hardly seen any animals i get its a colder day but theres nothing to reccomend it the cafe is just a selling sausage rolls that we had to wait 20 mins for with a seating area That the floor was very dirty even tho the cafe had only been open 30mins Also I d like to have seen staff members around the park You cannot bring food in of any type I saw a few families who had brought picnics and had to leave them in the car You can go back and have your butties in the car though but that kinda makes me wonder why have picnic benches in the zoo There is an air of desperation about the place and unless there is some fab reviews and signs of investment sadly I don t envisage a future for it I sincerely hope it does turn around it used to be a fabulous day out Very disappointing after a 2 hour drive Not well sign posted even paid for feeding the lemurs and giraffes but missed both as couldn t actually find the correct location The toilet at the entrance also had no door for privacy Opening times 11 till 3 was a let down as by the time you have queued out side to enter it only give us an hour to ram everything in The cafe only sold sausage rolls and the bloke that was meant to be seeing completely ignored my boy as he was the only 1 at the counter waiting to be served Bought 3 boxes of feed for the animals at 3 99 each and came away with them Left very disappointed will not return Will also be emailing with a complaint

Left the zoo feeling heartbroken with
Left the zoo feeling heartbroken with children that couldn t bare to stay there any longer and were asking to leave after 20 minutes the animals looks depressed under fed and under stimulated rarely was there a keeper seen around the grounds Watching baby primates sit and play with litter that was in abundance in their outdoor pen really hit a nerve The pens didn t look like they d been cleaned in months and why they had access to old dirty bits of rubbish doesn t bare thinking about The whole place is falling to pieces and it gives a very somber vibe The staff management and owners should all be highly disappointed in themselves for the treatment of these animals They are constantly fundraising but I struggle to see where the money is going and how they can call themselves conservationists I don t know The park used to be beautiful it s now a disaster that shows the staff couldn t care less about the animals park or visitors they need shutting down immediately and those poor animals moving somewhere they can be cared for properly

Went on Sunday 14th April 2024
Went on Sunday 14th April 2024 Omg I have never seen such sad animals The giraffes were in a small bit of land with no trees just one sad looking branch near the doors They were just pacing up and down They are obviously not kept in their natural habitat along with alot of the other animals There were 2 brown bears that looked under weight and not cared for and REALLY sad The place wasn t looked after at all There s no way I d pay the normal price of 25 to get in cos it s definitely not worth it I came away feeling sorry for the animals and upset by their conditions I think its cruel caging animals up when they should be able to live in their natural habitats I think the animals should be sent back to their countries of origin to live in the wild So so cruel
