Wendy Wu Tours - Great value for money with a lot of excursions included that would be optional extras on other tour operators - Very attentive National Guide We had Tom Du who is one of the best guides we have ever had and we have travelled to over 55 countries Magnificent China Tour A fabulous tour with lots of variety of activities and scenery Every day a highlight We would definitely look to book with Wendy Wu again and would recommend to anyone interested in visiting China The Magnificent China Tour was a wonderful itinerary of the key things to see in China China has so much more to offer than what we realised We hope we will make it back there again sometime soon Visit November 2014

Road to Samarkand Tour

Road to Samarkand May 2014China Southern is a reasonable airline and offers the most direct access to start our trip However to begin Road to Samarkand in Urumchi is not worthwhile It had a terrorist attack days before we arrived and another one a couple of weeks after we left And in reality Urumchi is just another city the Heavenly Lake visit is nice but maybe not worth the stopover Maybe the trip could go direct to Kashgar which has a lovely feel to it The drive across the border is a great experience as is the contrast between China s desolate and bare hills to the wondrous green slopes of the Kyrgystan mountains dotted with animals and their tending horsemen The home stay at Kochkor was uncomfortable At times there was no water in the bathroom shared by five guests One person had a hot shower and four made do with cold water dribbling into the sink The bed was more than uncomfortable and there was extremely little interaction between the host family and we visitors We got by but it proved to be a pointless experience The remainder of Kyrgystan proved to be worthwhile It is a contrast to our living conditions and showed ex-Soviet conditions for the good and bad Our guide Tatiana pointed out positive and negative aspects of living under Russian control and certainly made our stay most fruitful Most of the food in Kyrgystan was provided by local families They greatly overestimated the quantity of food that we could eat and we were generally embarrassed by the amount of food left over at the end of a meal I found the food generally stodgy with an abundance of potatoes and other vegetables But hey this is what they have Bishkek airport and China Southern proved to be trying and unhelpful Our National Escort Christine and local guide Nisa were instrumental in sorting out problems and getting us to Uzbekistan The Uzbekistan part of the journey had vast contrasts and immensely import and historical sites The time spent in Khiva was brilliant with choices of eating establishments showing variety and quality Excursions were interesting and varied Accommodation was ideally located and suitable for comfort and rest Travel in Uzbekistan was by Chinese built Yutong bus which proved to be a little squash compared to the Setra bus used in Kyrgystan Travel between Khiva Bukhara and Samarkand showed the lack of maintenance on roads hinders quick and comfortable travel However the contrasting scenery of desert villages and workers on donkey carts makes up for it Side trips in Bukhara Samarkand and in Tashkent were excellent and gave us a good idea of history and of contemporary living in Central Asian cities The last few days of our trip were in Beijing and then home through Guangzhou As a Road to Samarkand trip I felt my trip was over and these days were just making my way back home I could easily have flown more directly from Tashkent leaving out China altogether Overall this trip has a very good itinerary well informed and influential guides in Kyrgystan and Uzbeskistan was well supported by an invaluable National Escort and was great value for money We had a great time and we are influenced to travel Wendy Wu again We just have to find the right itinerary - off the everyday beaten track Bring back Epic Dreams and here we go again

Grand tour of China

An excellent amazing 28 day tour of this vast country From small but important details like the provision of sturdy luggage tags and a strong folder to house my paperwork coupled with the 1st class service during the booking process right through to the hard working and very likeable guide who stayed with us throughout trying hard to satisfy the demands of a very mixed group All the hotels were well up to my standard honed as a result of my being a very experienced World traveller I enjoyed this tour so much that I have already booked a tour of Vietnam for early next year

Wendy Wu is the Way to Go

Following recommendations of travel agents friends and family we booked our pearl anniversary trip of a life time on the Wonders of China tour in October this year Having saved for years to go we were not disappointed Group tours are very much dependant on the mix of people and we struck gold with a fabulous gang which only served to enhance the whole trip Our tour manager Nick was highly organised and attentive He constantly went the extra mile to ensure all his family had the best time Each night we were briefed with what was coming up the next day so we were all ready for the off when the time came There is a lot of walking and steps This trip is not for the faint-hearted If you don t like early starts then it is not for you Our local guides were all excellent and while you thought sometimes you might not have quite enough free time to look at something in the end they were right about how long it took to go round things on your own There are a number of optional extra excursions We did most of them and were most impressed by the light show at Yangshuo Our accommodation while we were hotel and cabin hopping was in the main good to above average but we knew that before we booked The food was in the main very good buffet breakfasts and two sit down meals a day except on the cruise where we went for the standard buffet option for lunch and dinner too which was more than adequate don t waste your money on the upgrade The menu was a bit the same in the Beijing part of the trip but Nick made sure we had more variety as the days went on We did find the choices of beer full fat coke and sprite at every meal which are extras a bit tedious so we made sure we made the most of the green tea when it came around Recommend you take your own tea bags sugar and powered milk to get your tea fix Good coffee is also hard to find All hotels provided a kettle hair dryer and 2 free bottles of water Also recommend you take the Chinese 3 pin plug with you it works better than a 2 pin one If ever we can afford it we would certainly go again with Wendy Wu We saw sights both famous and less well known The country is meticulously litter free they are working hard on improving air quality We had brilliant blue skies in Beijing no smog The locals cannot do enough for you This trip more than exceeded our expectations and will live long in our memories of good times
