Good for casual chatting but messaging costs add up
I signed up for Amoredate about three months ago out of curiosity. The platform is reasonably intuitive and the signup process took just a few minutes. I appreciated being able to send a few initial messages for free to test the waters before committing any money.
I matched with a few interesting people, but here's where the cost factor becomes a real issue. Each message beyond the free allowance costs credits, and video calls are even pricier at around 8 credits per minute. After spending roughly $40 on credits in my first month, I slowed down my usage significantly.
The profiles I encountered seemed fairly diverse, though I did notice some that looked suspiciously similar or professionally photographed, which made me wonder about authenticity. Out of perhaps 15 conversations I initiated, maybe three led to meaningful interactions. One connection actually turned into something genuine, which was nice.
My main complaint is that the pricing structure feels deliberately designed to drain your wallet. The company could be more transparent about costs upfront. That said, if you go in with realistic expectations and use it casually, you might find what you're looking for. It's decent for meeting people, just budget accordingly.
