Worst Dining Experience of my Life
I recently attended my company s Julefrokost Christmas social event at Martin Ib restaurant on Aarhus It was a five-course set menu and as the only vegetarian in a group of over 50 people I approached the evening with modest expectations Danish cuisine traditionally revolves around meat-heavy dishes and in my experience vegetarian options in Denmark often fall short Still I wasn t prepared for the sheer disappointment that awaited me What I received can barely be called a meal The courses included a sour fennel salad cold Jerusalem artichoke fries a warm salad paste served in a tartlet pastry cup one very dry and tasteless veggie sausage and for the main course two slabs of tofu drowned in dill dressing It wasn t just uninspired it was downright unpleasant I left before dessert was served The wait between courses compounded the frustration The main course arrived over four hours after we arrived three hours after we sat down to eat This kind of delay is unacceptable at any restaurant let alone one charging premium prices like Martin Ib While my colleagues seemed to enjoy their duck I found it incomprehensible that two poorly cooked tofu slabs could be considered a meal To their credit the serving staff was kind and tried their best to manage the large group However they were clearly young none seemed older than 25 and their lack of experience was evident As someone who once worked as a waiter and bartender to pay for school I understand the challenges of service But at an establishment charging premium prices I expect a higher standard All in all this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I ve ever had Martin Ib failed to deliver an acceptable vegetarian meal fell short on service and made vegetarians feel like an afterthought Paying customers deserve far better 0 5 stars
