Not so transparent after-all

Edit having written the review I was called by the commercial team who heard my frustrations and have provided a partial refund The chap who called was really helpful Original review below My wife and I are massively disappointed In short the issue is with poor communication within their organisation and the website not being as transparent as it appears My wife has an abnormal shaped womb which requires IVF We are eligible to NHS treatment but the waiting lists were long so we considered going private instead Having combed the ABCIVF co uk wesbite my wife and I decided to give them a call The website brags about transparent pricing and a Complete IVF Package includes everything you ll need for your treatment It also clearly states that there are three criteria to meet in order to use their complete package The criteria are shown as BMI below 30 Under the age of 37 and good ovarian reserve I called them and explained and explained the issues with my wifes womb a unicornuate womb and asked if ABC IVF would be suitable I was told that as long as we met the three criteria points we would be fine so we booked our initial consultation and semen sample 380 upfront payment required for this btw We were sent login details and completed plenty of forms in which we again explained the complications with my wife s womb When we had the initial consultation and scan we were told that we would not be eligible for the complete package ABC IVF since the scan result showed that my wife had a unicornuate womb Instead we would need to progress with the sister company Create Fertility and the cost for the first cycle would be 7k rather than the 2 5k as advertised on the website We explained the unicornuate womb prior to booking the scan so the scan did not unveil anything we didn t already know We can t afford 7k so then had to resort to NHS treatment At this point we felt like we were blagged into having the initial appointment and laying out 380 when we could have been told from the outset that we wouldn t be suitable for ABC IVF and saved our money THERE IS MORE TO THE CRITERIA FOR ABC IVF THAN IS SHOWN ON THEIR WEBSITE When we had our follow up consultation we explained this issue with the consultant The consultant did come across as knowing his trade well As such when we came to getting our referral with the NHS I called Create Fertility in Bristol and asked if they would take NHS referrals from patients that based are as far away as Plymouth I was told that they do We figured that we would use our NHS cycles and if they were unsuccessful we would then go private with Create Fertility as it would make sense to have all treatments with one clinic to ensure there is a smooth transfer of information We then had an appointment with our GP to request that our NHS referral be sent to Create Fertility in Bristol They did that only for Create to then turn around and say that in fact they do not take NHS referrals from Plymouth Not impressedEdit I received a call from one of the commercial employees after my review He said he would check the call recordings and come back to me That was fours days ago and I ve heard nothing since I ll edit my review as an when we get any response or remedial action

The doctors we saw were generally very good and helpful The treatment process was simple and clear and there was always someone on the phone to answer any questions The prices were increased during our treatment which meant we had to pay more than we thought which was difficult for us The wrong embryo was transferred during our frozen round and although we were successful in this pregnancy it caused us a lot of stress during the process We wrote a formal complaint

Nurses are fantastic

Nurses are fantastic in clinicGood luck getting into contact with anyone via email or phone except the call centre if you are outside of the clinicToo many hidden costs not explained or mentioned extra medication freezing certain blood tests required to continue etcWhen you are phoned the information is thrown around like its no big deal even if it is bad news which it is more than 50 percent of the time

On the 19th of March myself and my

On the 19th of March myself and my partner gave birth to a beautiful baby girl This after 5 years of trying and month after month of awful disappointment I will be forever grateful for thesuccessful result and the birth of my daughter thank you ABC for Enola-Rose However despite this joy our journey was at times really quite disappointing and concerning As with many reviews communication was very difficult at times often leaving multiple voicemails or emails with no reply This really came to a head when my partner had to take her final trigger shot 12 hours before egg collection They had promised a call with when and what dosage to take no call came After investing so much financially and emotionally it was a Saturday evening no call no message despite us constantly calling them Finally after calling their emergency number we managed to find somebody clearly working remotely at home and after some protracted conversations she promised to ring back with an answer A doctor rang and asked If we had been contacted yet We had not The lab then called and confirmed a time This was 2 hours before the trigger shot and we ended up taking the injection at 1 30 am Just to add some context my partner had been scanned on a Monday and was told egg collection would be on Friday On Wednesday she was told they wanted to do another scan and collection would be on Sunday On the Friday she was told that that she only had 6 follicles and that we should prepare for a low volume of eggs The following day when we went in for egg collection we were the last couple in the building and it felt a little like we had been squeezed in On collection they managed to harvest 22 eggs I would speculate that after the chaos of the day before that the dosage was not quite what it should have been and perhaps the extended egg collection date also contributed My partner really felt like she had been over stimulated which ultimately led to her being at risk from OHSS For this reason the clinic refused to do a fresh transfer and insisted we do frozen transfer This would add a substantial amount to the overall cost resulting in an extra 2000 A read of some other reviews and over stimulation seemed to be a common thread we complained and to ABC s credit they agreed in the end to waive the cost and include Additionally we originally requested to do egg sharing partly to keep costs down but also my partner really liked the idea of helping out another couple We were told we were not viable due to follicles but lo and behold she actually managed to produce 22 eggs so that also does not sit well with me The receptionist also was a little curt and I never really felt very welcome arriving The team downstairs were always lovely and we always felt well cared for Difficult review to write as ultimately we got exactly what we paid for - the chance to be parents to a beautiful baby girl Factually we would not be looking at her right now if not for ABC So I will always be grateful but felt the right thing to do was to share some of the challenges Best of luck to all you future parents out there - keep the faith

Abc - Mixed Feelings

Comments written on behalf of my wife and INursing Respect for advice and patience of nursing staff and doctor who handled my wife s transfer Communication Reasons for clinic visits were not always clear Knowing the big picture aids understanding and acceptance and should be more frequently told to patients Also if calling from private numbers please notify in advance Costs I don t think these are transparent We paid the ICSI cost but the transfer wasn t done in the same cycle medical reasons respected so had to pay for FET and storage to complete a transfer This type of situation should be made clear FET While appreciating the work involved it feels like a penalty for misfortune when doing these The cost is high and our notified cost was increased by 25 which was unreasonable Care Ivf is a tough process for woman I know my wife would have appreciated a how are you going Unrequested call from the clinic I appreciate staff are busy but It makes the process more friendly

Good staff bad processes

Debra and Emily are brilliant and provide a friendly and helpful manner and service Sadly the overarching processes at the clinic are a disappointment I have had 3 unsuccessful rounds now on the last one following my negative pregnancy test I had a positive test a week later I had stopped taking my hormones and this could have jeopardised the pregnancy

ABC IVF for some reason removed my

ABC IVF for some reason removed my review I wrote from my time with them over the course of a year I suppose it was because after 1 x egg collection 13 eggs collected one fresh and one frozen transfer and a poor success embryo quality i was not a success story and had spent 5k and no baby - so why would they want to promote my story End of the story is I gave up with ABC and changed clinics First egg collection with my second clinic got 21 eggs 9 blastocysts and gave birth to my daughter in March 2022 ABC are low cost but also low quality in my opinion I say this as my results speak for themselves and my of eggs post collection was so much lower when stimming with them fertility issues were male factor only Just bare this in mind Also their sites sometimes only offer scanning etc I had to use the Oxford site - then have my collection and transfers at Birmingham - adding to even more stress in an already stressful situation

We started IVF treatment with ABC last

We started IVF treatment with ABC last year and now have our gorgeous baby girl It was our second attempt at the ivf before we conceived The premises were lovely and well maintained and the staff were professional and very friendly The only problem we encountered was the transparency about the cost of further rounds of IVF after our first try A slightly misleading piece of paperwork worded in a way which lead us to believe the cost of our second round was a lot less than it was Also it was sometimes difficult to reach contact the branch
