Useful but sometimes troubling

I began posting papers on Academia Edu long before they became a business I have found this useful but at times troubling I receive the usual run of did you write this emails often they are ridiculous but a recent one is especially troubling It listed me as author of a well-known book in my field that I did not write When I clicked on the not mine option I found a small set of irrelevant choices Because of a previous experience I have not bothered contacting their customer service In that earlier case I received an Academia edu reading suggestion that attached another person s name to one of my published papers The profile of the supposed author was truly bizarre It contained an offprint of my paper complete with my name and institutional affiliation so I have no idea what the owner of the profile was up to In that case I did contact Academia s customer service and received a nebulous worthless reply

I have had exactly the opposite

I have had exactly the opposite experience to most reviewers it seems The Premium account is very good value for a high quality hosted website for easy access to my papers and gives me a very professional looking platform It is very easy to delete and upload corrected versions of papers unlike for example Humanities Commons which might be free but is useless for on-going research I have downloaded many completely free PDFs without difficulty The customer service was excellent when I had a problem No I don t work for Academia I am a film historian

This is very useful website and not scam

this is very useful website There are lots to study from this website when i try to use this website in starting its requested to upgrade as premium and i used my credit card to upgrade And they charged 99 form my account for a year But i only applied to charge for a month Finally i hoped this website is scam and i cheated by them but they not like that they are very honest After these problem i complaint my problem to the academia service center and requested to refund As they said in the website without any question they refund my payment within 7 days and their team member conducted me through email and helped me Thank you academia anyone can hope this website

Very helpful website

Some of these comments are simply stupid certainly raising the question as to whether negative critiques are written for purposes other than the intent of the website There is no charge for using academia edu unless you want to upgrade which I have never done Further academia edu puts you in touch with very many articles related to you own areas of interest making it unnecessary to use other research tools that are not as accessible Additionally the awareness of articles in your area of interest allows access to compatible scholars with whom one can establish a collegial relationship If people post articles that have been copyrighted elsewhere that is not the fault of academia edu but rather of the poster Generally I find the website extremely useful

I am writing another review in response to the many unjustified one star reviews that appear on Trust Pilot The Academia platform has been invaluable for me to reach an audience for my papers on film history For an independent researcher like me it is the only way to reach an academic audience My papers have been viewed and downloaded hundreds of times a year in over 70 countries I have been read by most of the top academics in my field I would have sold a few dozen copies of a self-published book on the subject in just the US and UK and no one would have paid me any attention at all The Premium subscription that gives you a high quality and trouble-free website is amazing value Most of the complaints here seem to be about the subscription from disgruntled people I have never had any problems with subscribing and the few minor issues with my site have been quickly responded to Do not pay attention to the moaners Academia will change your research life if you use it properly

I have receive the refund within 3-4 days from them Appreciated the way they solve the problem Thanks a lot I need a refund for my subscription it was totally horrible when I just want to subcribe for 1 month but then it turned to 1 year I sent the email but no one reply to let me know when will I got my money back are you a scam and try to trick students with your subscription fee When will I get my refund I need an answer for that be professional and responsible for your website
