While visiting "Bitcointora," a site posing as a cryptocurrency news aggregator, a malicious script executed a drive-by download, installing a crypto clipboard hijacker on my system. This malware lay dormant until I attempted to send $11,200 in BTC to an exchange address. The malware silently replaced my destination address with one controlled by the attackers, and I unknowingly approved the transaction. RetrieveXpro's cybersecurity team first analyzed the malware sample from my system, then performed on-chain analysis to track the stolen funds. They identified that the scammer's wallet was being used for multiple similar thefts and, by coordinating with a security-focused exchange, had the assets frozen and returned.
