Trying to look for a menial job is like prospecting for gold nuggets The specific jobs you are searching for are buried beneath a slough of unwanted Ads I don t remember it ever being this bad

I can t place ALL the blame on Craigslist for what it has become spam and scam but I think they need to implement some type of system o bring the site back to what it used to be As it is now it s hard to trust anyone or anything that s being posted There s absolutely no problem with the interface or the usability - it s the people who use it for their own schemes that bring it down As soon as Craigslist finds a way to fix or at least lessen that problem they will be golden again

At first Indigo Editing seemed really good They seemed to communicate fairly well but it was ALL done via email That got to be tiresome after a while Indigo Editing is basically comprised of eight fairly young women in their twenties and thirties and some in their forties I dealt with two employees only and found communication with both women to be stilted formal and conducted exclusively via email This is common for Millennial young people I have discovered but does not work well with people who have different expectations regarding complex and diverse communication styles There are people like me who appreciate either occasional in person meetings or at the very least a weekly or monthly phone call When I asked about a telephone call I was told that we would have to make an appointment for that I was FLOORED Telephone calls and in person meetings were invariably discouraged in one fashion or another I asked or mentioned doing this on multiple occasions in emails and this was either discouraged or ignored When I met with one employee at their tiny office on the two or three occasions I went there I got the distinct feeling that she would rather I was not there She seemed nervous and jittery which struck me as odd Once again she is much younger than I am and from an entirely different generation but I got the distinct impression I was invading her space and was not welcome It was confusing because I was the client and she was helping to arrange providing me with a service that I was paying her company for When I met her at the office again with an author I was promoting she again seemed ill at ease and anxious It was odd I tried to shrug it off but it made me doubt her competence The issue that compelled me and the author I am promoting to sever contact with this company was that the practices were never properly explained or itemized in any easy to understand way For example they don t have a printout with the process explained to the client in a step by step fashion And of course those policies were never explained verbally since these women do not like to communicate other than exclusively via highly impersonal email But even in the emails the examples of technical writing employed were vague and unclear with regard to policies and methods That made this part of the relationship difficult to understand or process In terms of how many edits one could get without being charged additional charges two rounds this was a source of constant confusion because editing and collaboration is a fluid process with writers and authors and things don t always come up at the same times This was the source of the most confusion Even if the edit was the result of carelessness on the part of the designer after she had supposedly sent me the final file I was still charged for her mistake With the first book they designed for me all aspects of what needs to go into a book were observed well - interior cover listed price author photo Advance Praise page etc They did a really great job and I was very happy with it With the second book and the third book there were numerous errors or the designer would just not mention things that a conscientious designer will query an author or publisher about as she had before with the first book I guess you could call them sins of omission They would send files they said were complete for example the cover files for the books but then I would find an error that had not been corrected when I had given them the detail in a previous email In one case the error was that the designer forgot to add the end quotation mark on the front cover blurb for the book The designer had sent me the file saying it was done and then two days later when I was told by a friend that there was this embarrassing error on my finished book cover I had not noticed it and I asked Indigo Editing to fix it I was told that the window for that correction was over I was told that I would need to be charged for that which of course was their standard price of 78 per hour So I was charged 78 for the designer to take the approximate three seconds required to add that end quotation mark and then save it to the file And of course I was promptly charged 78 for it This happened several times when I needed additional edits done on the text which is understood to be the authors responsibility of course I did ask them to make additional changes to the text interior as a result of my own edits and they did and I was charged for that which I had no problem with But there were a more than three times when my numbered list sometimes as many as 30 corrections were not all uploaded and I had to ask that a previous edit again be corrected The other issue is that many of these things could have been resolved with a simple phone call But that is not something this business does They don t do phone calls There were days when I was so busy and I had to sit down yet again and write a long detailed email and basically it was infuriating Is our society so closed off that a phone call is simply out of the question anymore Well it should NOT be that way It was exhausting all the emails It made the process of collaborating with them very unpleasant because that was the ONLY mode of communication they employed It was limiting and made me feel trapped as a creative person Ultimately it also made me feel unimportant and invisible Another example of their carelessness was when I asked about the author photo for a particular book and they did not follow through on that The designer never followed through on when or how we would include the author photo and so because I am a publisher a writer and an author and was busy with multiple projects at that time including caring for my elderly husband it slipped my mind You could say that was my fault right Perhaps but a caring designer covers all the bases and they did not When I brought issues like these to their attention once again I was told that the window for me noticing that the designer had simply not broached that part of the process had closed and again I would have to be charged Then when I noticed on that same book that they had not included a listed price on the back as in numerals They told me that the price was included in the metadata of the bar-code and that was good enough I was again told that to have that price added I would have to be charged 78 per hour to make that happen because I hadn t told them in time before that every present window might close I got the distinct impression that my second book with them really was not all that important to the designer at all These sins of omission were numerous and made an extremely poor impression on me denoting a lack of professionalism or of looking out for authors and publishers best interests My issue was with the errors that were not my fault and with which they continued to charge me When I was trying to upload one of the three books to Ingram for distribution and the process was stymied because the system could not see a price on the back of the book and I asked them why they had not included the numerical price they informed me that they no longer wanted to do business with me I was surprised but also extremely relieved I knew for a long time that they were not professional and that their best practices were still not clearly envisioned or conceptualized I knew that I would be able to find someone older with better social skills and better overall ability to see the bigger picture and far better at interpersonal social skills When issues came up because of their confusing methods and unexplained best practices they were always exceedingly apologetic and this happened repeatedly Apologizing to me and quite formal in their written email apologies but it still didn t help the process The email only communication and nonexistent working paradigm that might help the client understand the process made the creative process frustrating and ultimately extremely unrewarding I felt with the second and third books they were not advocating for me the publisher author and it felt like a game they were playing with me about what they were not telling me just waiting for me to ask them about it later so I could once again be told I would need to be charged for their mistake 78 to include the end quotation mark on a front cover blurb Seriously When I was promoting another author and indigo Editing was supposed to include me on important aspects of the cover and interior design they did not That is when these same issues came up They did not tell this author that most books have an Advance Review Page or a Praise page When the author sent me the PDF of the cover and I saw that the interior had no Advance Praise Page I was once again floored They had not kept me in the loop and as the publisher of the book and the main editor that was something they should have done When I insisted that an Advance Review Page be created they told us that there would again have to be a charge for that So long to short if you want to conduct your business with this company prepare for communication ONLY via email And if you want to be charged for little things invariably little mistakes and be told that you failed to mention something to them in time because they failed to advocate for you as an author or publisher then these guys are for you If you want real communication that is genuine and wherein you can actually create a long-lasting working relationship then look elsewhere I m delighted to say I have a new graphic designer He is an older man in his 70s with over forty years experience and he loves to talk on the phone and especially to meet in person over coffee just to talk things over You cannot underestimate how precious that is

I look around on craigslist and the website has only gotten worse There are many scams a person has to watch out for The website just doesn t seem safe anymore People get on to the website to try to sell pets for excessive amount of money There was puppy some one was trying to sell for 5 000 dollars

Craigslist once helped out the general public It was a God send I cant afford to pay for ads In the beginning it was free and I was able to grow my childcare business something I was in dire need of If I needed that now I d be out of luck Now it s just another high priced ad space Did anyone notice how the ads have gone down I encourage you NOT TO USE THEM ANYMORE They have lost site of helping now that they are billionaires We can now put them in the greedy category

I advertised stuff for sale on Craigslist UK Had a call from a withheld number today asking about some perfume I was selling Then went on to say he could come and collect it and I said I could meet outside the local post office He then said was there a hotel nearby and it would be better to meet there I said I would prefer the post office He then asked if I offered any other services like massage etc told me that s what Craigslist is for Whay sort of site is this I was deeply offended by him and have now blocked him and deleted the items I genuinely wanted to sell
