A changing curriculum for the worse

Our church has been using this curriculum for 3 years I liked it for the first 2 years Now I feel the curriculum has turned the corner and is starting to bring in more woke ideas Example Daniel 1 8 when Daniel refused to eat the king s food the reason the curriculum gave was that vegies was much better for you Meat was bad and they didn t eat meat back in Jerusalem The real reason Daniel didn t want to eat the meat nor the wine was according to the NIV Study Bible notes Israelites considered food from Nebuchadnezzar s table to be contaminated because the first portion of it was offered to idols Likewise a portion of the wine was poured out on a pagan altar Ceremonially unclean animals were used and were neither slaughtered nor prepared according to the regulations of the law They also flashed a quick picture in the background of the 3-4 year olds video relating to the recent beauty pageant where a transgender person won I am using less and less of the curriculum games and suggested videos I m doing more of my own research as to the Bible text they to pull out truths in the Bible text and memory verses The theme and examples they use to bring the Bible text together with the theme and games is getting harder and harder to correlate I pray this review will help you look for the truths of the Bible in any curriculum you decide to use I m very disappointed they have chosen to go this route 0

Was a bit expensive for what came with

Was a bit expensive for what came with it downloading material takes up way too much space it would be nice if we still had access online of what we already paid for instead of losing it if we don t download it Can t keep up with the content and our computers

Like the outlines though the sermon

Like the outlines though the sermon teaching outlines are the same which pretty much makes one useless Also the outline there s a lot of share a story of a time this or that happened to you there really should be a story included we re paying for completed curriculum the hacks and many other things are just repeated fill in fact I d like for there to be an option to buy the outlines and maybe the games only because that s about all I find useful anyway

Connection between content and the Big Idea isn t always clear

There is a lot of information As a teacher of young children I do not feel the activities are always age appropriate I am not sure if the message is always received with the activities that are provided I like the videos A little quirky but good for children It is wonderful to have music that students can relate to

I do really enjoy GROW curriculum

I do really enjoy GROW curriculum My frustration points are have to rewrite it every single week with our new normal distancing protocols While a new online strategy is shared it doesn t help our in person needs Could we update it with distancing hacks links to YouTube worship We aren t permitted to use these because of licensing issues I wish there was a way to have worship videos that were usable Versions - I need clarification when a new version hits Do we stay with the old one V3 or do we ask to move to V4 It s not clear except that on the Facebook page discussions are had about V4 when that option isn t given to everyone I know this review seems harsh and I don t mean it to be I love the curriculum but I do want to be honest about the struggles that it s created

We love the content as a whole BUT

We love the content as a whole the scripts hacks and small group pieces BUT we are not fans of the teaching videos for the elementary curriculum at all It seems to mature for younger elementary kids and more appropriate for a pre-teen middle school group We are for sure going to use the preschool teaching videos but will definitely not be using the elementary

Accessibility issues

Unfortunately it seems that it is tough to get most things downloaded in order to be able to access them In order for it to be the best with accessibility things should be accessible in the website and only needed downloaded for changes We shouldn t have to download videos and songs Those files are too big and there should just be a link where they can open in a browser We are still learning but are really struggling with accessibility

We love the layout and how well

We love the layout and how well organized each unit is The balance of OT NT materials is good too We are doing the memory verse as a whole congregation which is really great for all of us We are also using the Big Idea and scriptures as a basis for our adult sermon time This allows the whole congregation to study the same material presented at an age-appropriate level for each group The elementary aged kids are enjoying the videos for Breaking News much more than the Blast Off series videos while the preschool kids who loved the Blast Off videos are finding the concepts in Breaking News challenging to grasp and the teachers are finding the series hard to teach as well I have not heard back if the parent link available without signing in for the memory verse has been fixed yet
