AI Review Summary Based on 23 reviews

Customer experiences with Mincoffs are sharply divided, with many reporting extremely poor service while others praise excellent performance. A significant number of customers report severe issues with communication, describing it as non-existent, contradictory, or unacceptably slow, which frequently delays transactions like property purchases. Several reviews cite unexpected and exorbitant charges, including one case where legal fees vastly exceeded the debt being collected. There are multiple complaints about professional negligence, such as failing to check critical documentation or making numerous mistakes during conveyancing. Some customers accuse the firm of lacking a moral compass, specifically referencing enabling alleged fraud for another company. Positive reviews consistently highlight specific individuals, like Jane, Gordon, Danielle Rutter, and Rebecca Stafford, who provide friendly, professional, and highly responsive service. These praised employees are noted for keeping clients informed, answering queries promptly, and ensuring smooth processes. The conveyancing and employment teams receive particular commendation for being efficient, diligent, and achieving excellent outcomes. Overall satisfaction is entirely dependent on the specific solicitor or team assigned, leading to a polarised reputation. The firm's payment collection is noted to be efficient, even by dissatisfied customers who received poor service otherwise.

I would not recommend this firm

I would not recommend this firm We are currently using them for our conveyancing and Debbie Worrell is dealing with this We were told by the estate agents that there was no reason completion could not take place by the end of September This was accurate However what the estate agents did not account for was that Debbie was going on holiday for 2 weeks and whilst she was away nothing at all was done on the file until she returned Completion has therefore been set back due to the fact nobody could be bothered to work on the file while she was away and therefore things only got actioned when she returned I contacted Debbie and despite me setting out at the beginning of the call that I was not the client as this is my partner s house she continued to speak to me about the file and then 5 minutes into the conversation when she realized I was not the client she advised she could not discuss this with me I find it quite appalling for a professional firm not to carry out data protection at the outset of the call My partner had in fact already emailed giving authority for her to discuss the claim with me but she made it clear she had not seen this When I spoke to Debbie I found her extremely rude she spoke over me constantly and then when I advised her I would be making a complaint she advised me to go ahead and stated she had to end the call as she had things to do Again I did not find this professional whatsoever I would not recommend and would not use them again

Charged 28 000 to collect a 9 000 debt

I engaged the company to collect a personal debt of approx 9 000 They actually ended up charging 28 000 to collect the debt We won in court Despite being told I should receive approx 75 of my costs I was not awarded any costs The bottom line is there is no point going to court to collect debt The only people who win are the solicitors And there is certainly no point using Mincoffs their costs are totally out of proportion

Ryan Bannon Partner and Emma Liddle

Ryan Bannon Partner and Emma Liddle Solicitor made numerous mistakes when acting as a conveyancer for a new build property we purchased from a small developer in 2016 They failed to check the documentation for a buildings warranty at the time of the transaction which subsequently delayed the purchase Now in 2020 when we come to sell the property it is clear that failed to obtain SAP calculations which now mean it is not straightforward to sell the property or create EPC details They were recommend to us by Bailey and Co Estate agents but I would not recommend

Go elsewhere

Shocking solicitors communication is non-existent and leaving people in the lurch seems to be acceptable with this firm When you re lucky enough to hear from them you receive contradictory information which either seems made up or the person dealing is incapable of performing their duties Would give 0 stars if possible

Poor communication unexpected charges - they held up a property

Poor communication held up a property purchase a request for a payment was buried away in a letter On paying the accounts department they seeming did not update anyone Later I engaged them to deal with tenancy ending early and wanted the tenant to pay their costs They drew up a document and I was paid by the tenant After this they sent a couple of emails and billed me 240 for them They seem to have a bizarre way of treating their clients

Below average service - wouldn t recommend

Used Mincoffs after my estate agent recommended them Upon reading the contracts the estate agent was paid 150 referral fee Fair enough business is business and I assumed a good collaboration would mean flawless comms No - not at all I ended up joining all the dots and making things happen Granted the buyers mortgage was messed up but still neither Mincoffs or Living Local kept me updated to a level that was acceptable The structure at Mincoffs is admin assistants working under the Conveyancer Solicitor - this for me didn t work well The level of engagement was bog standard What was a very simple process First time buyers No Chain Vendor took three months I couldn t give Mincoffs or Living Local a lower rating and wouldn t recommend them to anyone for the purpose of Conveyance

A Masterclass in Decline

A Masterclass in DeclineAh Mincoff Science Gold once the crown jewel of Newcastle s legal scene or so I thought Three decades ago while working in an accountancy practice I had the privilege of preparing complex financial analyses for their partners particularly Howard Gold a man whose integrity and ethical standards were beyond reproach Back then Mincoffs was the epitome of professionalism Fast forward to today and well let s just say the glow has well and truly faded A year ago during the sale of my business I was represented by Sintons while the buyer had the fortune or misfortune of choosing Mincoffs Given my past positive experiences without hesitation I entrusted Mincoffs with a substantial Escrow retention sum to be held safely in their client account for 12 months What could possibly go wrong As it turns out everything When the time came for the funds and dare I say the princely sum of interest to be released things got interesting Mincoffs initially calculated the interest at a figure mysteriously short by 4 538 54 Of course assuming they simply had a calculator on the blink I politely raised the issue not once not twice but three times Each time I was met with a response so curt I half-wondered if they were being charged per syllable And rather than correct their honest mistake they doubled down and adjusted the figure even further downwards perhaps to teach me a lesson for daring to challenge their calculations by a thrilling 9 91 Because naturally they must have thought Why stop at one baffling error when we can make two So there I was staring at their final offering a jaw-dropping 488 92 in interest on 100 000 held for a year A return so generous I nearly fainted from excitement With Mincoffs seemingly uninterested in resolving the issue I did what any rational person would do I escalated the matter to the Solicitors Regulation Authority SRA And lo and behold within an hour of Mincoffs being notified a miracle occurred They suddenly recognised a genuine error apologised profusely and abracadabra 4 538 54 reappeared The timing Impeccable The sheer coincidence Staggering The apology Oh just dripping with sincerity Though curiously it didn t come from the solicitor responsible for the error nor a partner within the firm but rather an associate because nothing says accountability like passing the buck Last minute damage control at its finest I ll let others draw their own conclusions but as for me I wouldn t trust Mincoffs to calculate the change from a 10 note A deeply disappointing experience and one I won t be repeating
