Great idea shame about the execution
I received a subscription as a gift At first I thought what a lovely idea but the application leaves a lot to be desired I had to fill in a questionnaire that was meant to establish my broader reading habits following which I was told the name of my personal selection agent although to this day have not had contact with him The first book vaguely fitted the answers to my questionnaire but proved for me at least most put-downable to the extent that I never got past the first few chapters I has assumed wrongly that my personal agent would at the very least email to ask my thoughts and to establish more precise parameters No The next I heard was simply a notification of the despatch of my next book It remains to be seen if I enjoy this but I can only say that for me the money spent on fancy wrapping and presentation would be far more usefully employed in establishing a proper working relationship At present I can only describe what should be a great service as all fur coat and no knickers I hope they take this on board

6 Book subscription
Received the first book from a 6 book subscription that was one of the most hideous things that I have ever read Chosen by Callum not sure who Callum thinks I am but clearly he seems to think I am a misogynist A woman described whilst dying in childbirth as having anxious beseeching eyes like a drowning dog and her howls could could be heard from afar through the main wards just as the lowing cattle being slaughtered must be heard in abbatoirs I get that the book was written in the 1930 s but there was no character development or period references to allow the reader to adjust or brace yourself for these inhuman references I don t think I could have hated this book any more than I did

Called in today as it was my old haunt
Called in today as it was my old haunt until it went a bit down hill a few years ago Heard it had improved so called in for a Chicken Meat Donner in Naan 7 50 I asked could he not put my salad and sauce on the Naan as usually by the time i get home it is all soggy Paid for it then noticed he had charged me 9 20 for it When i asked why he said he has charged me 1 10 for the salad to be put in a plastic 16p tub and 60p to put it in a 5p tub without informing me there would be a charge for NOT having it on my meal Got home and the Naan was doughy and under cooked The chicken donner tasted like it was old and it was very dry A bad experience which will not encourage me to go back any time soon

Avoid
I had a subscription given as an Xmas present I filled in my likes etc and was sent several suggestions until one sounded appealing However the book that was actually sent to me was by a completely different author - and was one that I d already read With the system this retailer uses one can t actually see the specific book they are recommending - only the author - nor what they ve recommended in the past I ve just found myself returning books that I didn t want and have now cancelled the subscription Save yourself a lot of hassle and just visit a bookshop

highly recommended
Absolutely love my book subscription they have chosen books I wouldn t have picked myself and they are all fab They have also made sure they find a way to deliver during the C-19 disruptions and they have sent a lovely message they are happy and fun and their customer service is excellent It s a great present to get someone too you complete a survey and they get an idea of what you d enjoy and what they should not send you and it s the gift that keeps giving after your birthday event

Just wow I treated myself to a book subscription and it is the most fantastic and beautiful thing to receive intelligent and sympathetic and empathetic and challenging book picks by post There is something very relaxing in giving the responsibility of the pick of a new book and author to someone else and the pleasure that comes from the surprise of a perfectly sensitive choice is difficult to describe I am a huge fan

Amazing company
My friend bought me a subscription as a gift and I ve been bowled over at every step When you redeem your subscription voucher you complete an incredibly well thought out questionnaire that really gauges who you are a a person to match books to you This clearly worked VERY well as for my first book they d suggested a book I d read in the last 6 months but this isn t a problem as they pre notify you what they ll be sending and let you change it if you want to When the book arrives the packaging is just gorgeous and makes it feel so special Such a lovely thoughtful company
