I contracted Dan from the Island Fencing and Decking Company in May 2022 to carry replace a rotted through decking area to erect new fencing a new garden gate and a handrail I wanted to make sure I would be at the property for the duration of the job but after a number of delays due to Covid a problem with the materials and his van breaking down I could only be there for the first two days when he eventually came and was reliant on him carrying out the work to good standard in my absence Unfortunately this wasn t the case These were the main issues 1 He did not remove the old decking and rubbish as per the quote and has never given me an explanation as to why this wasn t done It was left on my neighbour s land outside my back gate I have had to pay someone to remove it 2 The fencing he erected is flimsy made from cheap materials and does not hide the rubbish behind at all Not only that because the fence is poorly aligned with the decking and there are big gaps between the slats weeds have immediately grown through all of which make the fence completely unfit for purpose 3 The decking itself is poorly finished Dan didn t bother even finishing one corner where there is a sizeable gap and the membrane showing through At the gate it is completely misaligned again with membrane showing through In other parts even simple tasks like sawing the decking in a straight line seemed to be beyond him 4 The garden gate was created from the off cuts from the fence offers no privacy and doesn t fit properly It has also dropped since being fitted 5 I asked Dan to secure one of the concrete steps which he has also failed to do 6 Dan fitted a handrail at the front of the house which until I intervened actually prevented access to the seating area in the front garden The rail as it stands is unstable in places and poorly finished 7 Poor communication Dan is very communicative until he gets your money When I saw the awful job he d done it was impossible to get through on his phone 8 Continually breaks his word and has endless excuses I ve lost count of the amount of times Dan has said he will pay me some or part of the money I am owed in exchange for removing my review and then completely disappears without paying obviously 16 09 24 I have taken Dan to the Small Claims Court despite them finding in my favour almost two years on he has failed to pay up Not only that I have had to have the entire decking fencing re-done as he left some of the old joists in which began to rot the decking itself started to become unsafe Use this company at your peril

Dan is totally unreliable he lies constantly gave us a quote to take down old fencing put up new fence and posts and remove all the rubbish once job was completed Our quote was 2000 cash or 2400 bank transfer we went for cash this was April 8th 24 constantly chasing via calls and texts and being ignored he finally completed the fence using our tools and leaving them in our neighbours garden as done the fence from that side Job finally completed 12th April except the removal of our old fencing and odd cut offs plus bushes that he had to cut down in order to get job completed Over 80 calls and texts and excuse after excuse for him not coming to remove it we got the rubbish removed from a waste company as our neighbours had also been more than patient having rubbish in their garden this was done on 25th April24 we gave Dan the invoice which he is refusing to pay We will be taking this further STAY CLEAR OF HIM UPDATE after posting a honest account on Yell com Dan decides he will pay 250 towards the 350 it cost to remove the rubbish IF I remove the review I said when I have the money then this will be done AGAIN he then says this transaction of money will be processed and you will have it Friday Today 10th May 24 GUESS WHAT NO SIGN OF PAYMENT I Don t think he knows how to be honest or professional

AVOID using this company at all costs The company is under investigation by authorities -evidence is available if required Company took over 3k of my money by way of a deposit for a job they could not or would not do Then blamed the customer All classic stuff This appears to be a pattern of behaviour Anyone can check public records eg Companies House for other evidence of issues

Before considering using this company take a look at the reviews on Trust Pilot for an accurate representation of Daniel and his company I had the displeasure of using this company recently and have been left appalled at the attitude and workmanship To start it s nearly impossible to get hold of Dan to turn up as I had taken time off work for him to come and take a look at a job No communication to say he won t attend just radio silence and messages ignored When he eventually turned up we had agreed that I will cover the cost of any materials as long as a receipt was provided One conveniently torn receipt was given and after calling Wickes the next morning it turns out he purchased new tools on top of materials - this is considered fraud After inspection of the work you can see in the pictures the awful state it s been left in as he clearly didn t want to come back a second day to finish the work to an acceptable standard The decking is currently unsafe with boards not nailed down nor supported and poses a risk to anyone walking on it After writing a negative review online he contacted me and offered to pay an invoice for another contractor to come and finish the job provided I removed the review After endless emails saying the amount is going to be paid it s clear he has little intention of doing so I advise anyone needing decking or fencing work to stay clear of Daniel and his company as you will be left disappointed and out of pocket like myself and many others

I paid Dan a 5k deposit for decking and glass balustrade From the outset it was clear he was out of his depth fitting the balustrade and had to get outside help I decided to get someone else in to the balustrade and expected him to complete the decking at no extra cost Rather than do this he asked for more money He refuses to return the composite decking that I paid for and he effectively stole it when he took it away from my property when he realised the job was going sour He has also left lots of rubbish and has failed to clear that aswell I should have heeded the warnings of the guys at Lushingtons when I asked them about him An expensive lesson learned DO NOT USE
