Regret Signing Up for a Membership

I joined AARP only because my husband assumed that because I was older I should be with AARP because they supposedly offer a long list of discounts I m not retirement age yet but I thought I could qualify for some benefits They may have been good in the past but today s AARP is nothing but a shill for insurance companies and other businesses hunting for more mailboxes to fill their junk mail with Since I answered their ad to join I open my formerly clean and empty mailbox to find tons of junk mail Ads for life insurance by the score auto insurance cell phone discount plans you name it Before I had worked very hard with the nonprofit Catalog Choice to get rid of the mail catalogs and crap clogging my mailbox This junk is one reason why so many Americans are in debt buying crap they don t need One membership to AARP was all it took to undo a year of hard work Second the discounts are nothing special They claim to offer discounts for traveling but you can t take advantage of any of them because COVID has destroyed the travel industry and nobody s going anywhere Third they offer discounts for chain stores that I never go to I patronize CVS never Walgreens and I don t eat at junk food restaurants like Outbreak Steakhouse Boneheaded Grill or Bubba Dumpster Shrimp I can t believe AARP promotes these low-class McDonald s-quality restaurants that are the most unhealthy places to eat for senior citizens Yes they re cheap but you might as well promote Dollar General for grocery shopping AARP The only discount I managed to use so far was for Denny s I was on a road trip and held hostage to the pathetic American landscape of fast food joints Except for that there is no discount on AARP you can t get elsewhere for free There are plenty of websites where you can buy discounted gift cards Raise and you don t need to pay a yearly membership You also don t need a membership for discounted movie or theater tickets I have a great one from work and I m already getting discounts for my car rentals thanks to my credit card benefits In short there is NOTHING that AARP offers that you can t get elsewhere If you re under 60 it s a total waste of money Except for the junk mail which they seem to have plenty of

Very frustrated

They screwed my Princess cruise booking nearly beyond recognition Made me book separate reservations to get a cabin for my children and made me use son s name and contact Both cabins were booked at the same time on the phone with the same agent in the same cabin category supposedly at the same price and with the same promotion offered What actually happened is that my cabin was booked at a different price and WITHOUT any of the promotion that was being offered Since I only paid the required deposit I didn t know this until weeks later AARP Travel tells me they can t change anything and I m just out of luck I ve called AARP Travel several times and all but one time got an agent who couldn t speak clear English and who I couldn t communicate with I received an email stating I needed to pay the remaining balance due but when I logged into to pay it wouldn t accept my payment and told me to call I did that and of course got an agent who didn t speak good English After at least 45 min I was told the balance due was now 600 MORE than what I expected because my cabin had been upgraded What My cabin number hasn t changed User s recommendation use AARP Travel at your own risk It s not worth the hassle

I got nothing from AARP

I got nothing from AARP I went on their travel program What I booked was much the same price I could get through other avenues When I thought they would do something on my issue all they did is point me to a firm for me to go to I had expected AARP to stand behind me Instead I m a lone wolf I never see customers where I work use the AARP credit card When I read about this credit card it has no incentive AARP seems to be a front for insurance companies

Terrible 1st call to this company

Terrible 1st call to this company They had me thinking that the tow company of my interest service would be paid for tow truck arrives and I pay 150 out of pocket I now cannot get back They didn t tell me that they dispatch their own tow service to me yet they just sent one out after I already paid and been towed Had to complain for them to review the call and they still found no reason to help reimburse or do anything

No one drives my car but me but they re still on my policy

When I set up my account an offshore person didn t understand that while I live with other people NO ONE drives my car but me and even though I told them that no one has removed the other person from my policy I think they really need to hire personnel who have graduated from high school

Ongoing repeating issues with receiving The Magazine

It appears that no one at AARP listens or reads or maybe they just do not care Weeks ago we specifically told AARP representatives we received the AARP Bulletins but have NOT received the AARP The Magazine so what do they send us The bulletins We re extremely disappointed in this total lack of customer service AARP is supposed to be a help to seniors not a hindrance This ineptitude is why we canceled our subscription last time and now it appears we will be forced to do that again as we have NOT received any AARP magazines at all AARP owes us back issues from February to now Is this how they serve seniors AARP should be ashamed of this especially since issues with receiving AARP the magazine has reoccurred for years That is not good business and is not caring for seniors their supposed target audience To make matters worse there is no way to contact them the fast way by email instead we must spend valuable time chatting or on the phone Today AARP again indicated the missing magazines are being sent We will believe it when we receive them

AARP is no support to seniors

AARP has always touted their support and benefits for seniors I guess I don t see that I switched my car insurance to AARP Hartford because it was a better rate Before I switched I had a discussion with an agent who indicated their rates were stable and in fact one year had a decrease Being told they had a decrease should have been a clue something was not quite right I did make the switch and like any other insurance company every six month renewal was an increase in the policy rate AARP s name on a product means nothing and there is apparently no reviews of a company to see that they are actually providing a lower cost product to seniors I have also found that AARP travel is not the best deal You can get better rates from other online providers Looks t me that AARP is getting paid to have their name associated with a company and they are no longer an organization out to support and provide benefits to seniors SHAME ON YOU
