Role Model Mentor and Coach in One Bottle

Last Summer I met Laura following her advert of a short zoom session she had planned called How to Change Linkedin for Board I was new to the functionalities of Linkedin and displayed my profile in the corporate fashion for employment Laura took me and 5 others through her short session one Saturday morning She patiently demonstrated how to present our current Linkedin profiles and how they need to be amended for board member searches In November I applied for an unremunerated board position with a Housing Association the largest provider of supported housing for veterans in the UK Prior to my interview Lara spent some one to one time with me on the telephone preparing me for the interview It was time well spent as I was successful Lara is well connected I have seen her in action via the Chartered Institute of Housing and other guest lists Thank you Lara You have been a great influence for me and my progression in general Keep up the great work you are doing It is infectious Karen Connell

We recruited blackonboard co uk when we had expanded our board at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre earlier in 2022 and wanted to equip our new trustees with the best grounding we could about their role and responsibilities Both the ongoing lockdown and a limited budget presented a challenge but with Lara Oyedele s impressive attention to detail and commitment we were able to overcome both She provided us with excellent pre-reading material for our new trustees and made herself available by phone for anyone who had queries or concerns This was followed by interactive online sessions which focussed on exploring the board s role and behaviours and included a number of exercises prompting discussion of good and bad governance practice Lara clearly has wide-ranging board experience and wisdom and was especially adept at understanding and delivering on our brief The feedback from our board was universally positive - and what s more they enjoyed it too

I have had the pleasure of working with Black on Board in particular Lara Oyedele She is amazing no matter what level you are within in your organization she comes down to your level and makes you feel valued On a number of occasions Lara has gone the extra mile to ensure that her client is okay and comfortable with the decisions being made My company started working with Lara with little experience of directorship and the recruitment of directors Lara took her time even out of work hours to ensure that we understood the process and empowered us to make decisions I would recommend her services globally because all of this was done virtually we had no need to meet in person Why Because Lara was always a phone call away always available in emails and via zoom

Lara s training course is a MUST for anyone wanting to progress their career into a NED role The sessions are great at the right level with lots of time included to ask questions along with homework and 1-2-1 support afterward Her passion and commitment to diversity and inclusion are unwavering and I look forward to using my new-found skills to progress my career

I would encourage anyone with a desire to serve on a Board to attend one of Lara s courses Having attended one of Lara s courses I learned valuable techniques to make my skills and experience count in the application process She delivers real value during the training and you leave the training with an updated CV that will get the attention you deserve This is someone that has current and relevant Board experience understands how the process works and is happy to share that knowledge Thank you Lara

Supportive and Empowering

Lara is great She has really supported me to understand the roles and responsibilities of being a trustee and as a result I have been successful in being appointed as a trustee with ATN in Southall Lara s advice and time to my growth has been invaluable I would highly recommend her and the work that Black on Board are doing Their work is much needed to ensure a reflection of our society on boards across the UK
