For anyone interested in a bit of history on the tragic eruption of Mt Tarawera then this activity is a must The visit includes a museum which contains a wealth of information on the eruption and its devastating effects on neighbouring villages including Te Wairoa and their inhabitants One can also go for the extensive walk through what s left of the village dug up from the layers of volcanic ash This is not Pompeii but emotionally moving all the same The track also takes visitors to a beautiful waterfall
