Colruyt Mechelen had zero vegan options in the cheese section when they have soooo much milk cheese Makes no sense every other store has it In general your vegan options are laughable

Clueless online service

In addition to providing an inefficient and dated shopping experience in their super markets Colruyt are CLUELESS when it comes to online shopping I tried for two weeks to place a large in excess of EUR3000 order I lost Ma liste twice struggled to set up a payment option in Xtra found out too late that they don t deliver and you have to fetch it then discovered that they arbitrarily limit the volume numbers and weights of what you can order online Altogether a terrible experience will never shop with them again in person or online And for heaven s sakes just take debit cards like everybody else in this business and not just outdated Bancontact

It s true that it is very cheap you can notice it

Several times now I have bought simple consumer items that didn t work in Colruyt The latest are the Boni Dolce Gusto coffee capsules In 3 out of the 4 capsules they break and there will be a puddle of hot water under your Dolce Gusto machine If you are unlucky the puddle is so big that the water will be in the drawers beneath the coffee machine This was not a single purchase or 1 kind of coffee The past half year I tried several kinds of Boni Dolce Gusto capsules They all contain a lot of defective capsules Other examples of defective products - nutcrackers that break after a few nuts tried twice bought an other one online - toilet brushes that break after even the littlest of push powerSimple products that are cheap But if you can t use them they are in fact very expensive It s like Colruyt doesn t have any kind of quality control Unfortunate Because I used to like Colruyt

Colruyt Kraainem - my happy place and genuinely service with a smile

When we first moved to Brussels a few years ago we gave all of the major supermarket chains - Delhaize Carrefour Lidl Aldi Match - trying to find our supermarket of choice It took us a few weeks to find Colruyt in Kraainem but since that happy moment I haven t looked back So what s so good about it Well price matters and Colruyt regularly wins out in price comparisons for a standard basket of groceries against its competitors Cheap food may be easy on the wallet but there s not much point if it tastes awful Yet - despite their affordability - the quality of Colruyt s meat and fresh fruit and veg is outstanding In general Boni - their in house brand - is also fine if you re looking for no frills basics It may sound trivial but they ve also dispensed with the irritating requirement to insert a coin before you can release your shopping trolley Their competitors claim that this is necessary in order to get shoppers to return their shopping trollies after use but - interestingly enough - in over three years I have never seen an abandoned shopping trolley in my Colruyt s car park But the best thing about Colruyt is its amazing customer service Their staff greet you Staff smile at you Staff listen to your queries and do their best to respond in a helpful manner in several languages virtually everyone at our branch is fluent in Dutch French and English and can make a reasonable fist of German Staff actually pack your bags crates at the checkout and - what s more - do a better job of it than you would yourself Is this the case in all of their stores or is ours an anomaly Well I ve only shopped in maybe another five of their stores but in each they ve been universally polite and have packed bags competently Is there a downside to Colruyt Well if you re brand conscious they probably stock fewer big brands than Carrefour or Delhaize Their unadorned concrete warehouse store architecture is utterly hideous and their fruit and veg area is quite literally a walk in cold room ironically this is a blessing in hot spells when people visibly loiter in order to gain relief from the heat Do I shop exclusively in Colruyt No there are other stores that I know offer particular products that are of better quality or at a better price But for my weekly shop Colruyt is my go to supermarket and the place where I do the majority of my shopping Most importantly it s a place that I never leave without feeling that my custom has been valued
