AI Review Summary Based on 75 reviews

Customers frequently report excellent performance and water resistance for Cuprinol products, particularly on sheds and fences over multiple years. Many praise the color range and durability, with some noting easy application and good coverage. However, a substantial number of reviews highlight serious issues including extremely poor adhesion, paint washing off within weeks, significant color mismatches between tin and applied finish, and products being too thin or watery. This indicates inconsistent quality control or formulation problems affecting user experience.

Cuprinol shades repelled by previous Cuprinol

Used Cuprinol shades Forget-Me-Not for my shedDecided to change the colour from Seagrass Put the first coat on and the old surface seems to be repelling the new paint and gives it a dappled appearance Any suggestions since a light sanding to provide a key doesn t appear to work

Goes on well but comes off after time

Goes on well and seems to give a lovely finish but I ve painted about 20 panels in ducksback and it s coming off in numerous places after less than 2 years The panels I painted it on were all brand new and bone dry done during dry spells during the summer I thoroughly brushed off any sawdust etc that you get with new panels before painting too so can only conclude that the product isn t upto the task which for a major brand who specialises in this sort of product is a real let down Definitely won t last the 5 years they claim so if you read this before purchasing I would recommend looking at other options

Colour not same as tin

Studied all Cuprinol shades before choosing Fresh Rosemary to paint outdoor garden gate Shocked as the colour looks blue not anywhere close to the shade on the tin In fact the colour is exactly like another shade Coastal Mist Not happy with the colour as we wanted more of a green not blue Really frustrating

Farcical colour description on tin

Based on great experience with Cuprinol ducksback previously on my shed which has lasted 6 years decided to go with it again Unfortunately the same colour was not available in our garden centre but they did have something similar called delicate pine Well The colour difference between the finished product and the example on the pot is almost laughable If I cuprinol don t know how to represent the preservative s colour what s the point of putting it in the pot

Not water resistant

I painted my new shed last weekend with 2 coats of cuprinol garden shades After an evening of rain last night I have discovered that rainwater has permeated through the shed walls The paint is described as water resistant so I feel like I have wasted my time and money Ended up giving the shed a third coat of the paint which has proved to be a little better in weather protection Probably would not use again

Painted a few clients fences and sheds last year

Painted a few clients fences and sheds last year Forest green weathered badly and needed reapplying after a few months although the shed was sanded wood as opposed to rough sawn Autumn brown very similar on shiplap panels Herring grey has come off the shed over the winter despite two three coats to cover up the old colour Silver copse came off within weeks after rain Ronseal weathered better at half the price Ducksback looks okay after initial application but really not worth the effort Fortunately the paint was acquired or requested by clients rather than on my recommendation so redoing it is not on my time

Ordered Cuprinol ducksback in delicate

Ordered Cuprinol ducksback in delicate pine It s BRIGHT GREEN I carried on painting thinking it would tone down but what an awful colour and my mistake was ordering by the colours name as being delicate pine expecting a subtle yellow tone as pine is in the yellow tones It has spoilt the whole look of my lovely garden and now ordered the golden shade hoping it s not going to turn out orange or worst still that it doesn t cover the sickly light green that I have to look at through my patio doors from my lounge The stain itself went on smoothly and easy to work with plus no smell
