My in-depth review of the Ellipal Titan
So I ve been investing in crypto and doing heavy research for the past year And one thing that was extremely important to me was being my own bank and ensuring myself that my crypto was safe and protected Now believe me when I say that I ve researched heavily in to multiple wallets and for me the one that stood out the most for the price you pay was the Ellipal Titan Now I believe so much in crypto and how much it will help humanity and when I saw that ellipal has no reviews here I wanted to take the time to write down a full review of how I feel about this product The wallet its self is fantastic Its extremely well built and I love the finish What s great about it too is how secure it is because it doesn t connect to bluetooth or the internet which are all different ways to have ur funds hacked Instead it uses QR codes with an app on your phone So you can take this little guy where ever you go and its always offline away from hackers You need both your phone AND the titan to make a transaction So as long as someone doesn t have access to your phone and to the titan both of which you can protect with your own passwords then no one is going to be able to steal your funds The titan is also air-gapped Another thing that I love about the titan is that it will self destruct if someone tries to open it Now if that was to happen your funds are still safe as long as you know the 12 word recovery seed which you can always use in another device to recover your crypto Now one important thing I want to make you aware of is that ellipal s mnemonic passphrase the 12 word recover seed generation is closed source as opposed to open source Closed source means that people cannot verify that ellipal did not create a back door to your crypto If it were open source other developers could go to GitHub look at the code and verify that nothing devious is going on Now while some people may be alarmed by this I m gunna tell you why I m not Ellipal is based in Hong Kong not China Now although technically Hong Kong is part of China in spirit they are not And they wish to be completely free from china Hong Kong is a democracy so I don t look at Hong Kong as I do China which we must admit is very much against crypto and is heavy on fully totalitarian authority something that the would could do less of in my opinion but that s a whole other discussion You may ask but why make it closed source why not just make it open source so no one has to worry The reason why its closed source is simply to make the wallet even more secure This is what they say themselves on their website Considering a close-sourced hardware wallet with robust software and hardware protection hackers will need years to break the system On the other hand it is easy for hackers to re-compile and knows the attack points of an open-sourced wallet For a well protected closed-source wallet like the ELLIPAL Titan hackers may take years to break the system compared to opened-source wallets where the code is readily available to be exploited Now another reason why I m not concerned about it being closed source ELLIPAL GIVES YOU THE OPTION OF IMPORTING YOUR OWN PRIVATE KEYS This is MASSIVE Basically if you don t want to trust ellipal and I can understand why you may not want to trust any company out of principle you can go to another wallet device such as an app wallet with open source code so you know you can fully trust the recovery seed note down the recovery seed from the open source wallet and then use that seed when opening your ellipal for the first time Problem solved Now a person that knows coding may say that there is still the possibility that the QR code may leak your imported private keys Well here s the beauty with that Anybody can scan the code and verify no secrets have been shared 100 of the information being communicated is open to examination There s no hardware protocol that flies over the users head or beneath their capacity to scrutinize The format is open documented and contents can be easily verified that no data is leaked And remember that the titan is completely air gapped and has no access to bluetooth and internet So your keys truly are secure and far from anyone s reach So if your worried about closed source just import your private keys generated from an open source wallet and now you have a fully secure wallet that doesn t require your trust The wallet keeps the user s private keys isolated from any kind of wired and wireless connections outside of the wallet If there was one thing that I d complain about is that there is not video out there fully explaining how to update the ellipal from start to finish whenever there s an update But other than that I love my Ellipal If you need their attention go to Twitter
