Cladding Fiasco
We are caught in the trap of the cladding fiasco which the government will not support in its true financial requirement After more than one year of waiting for their decision to award us costs for the cladding and its replacement we still do not know if we are going to be hit with impossible amounts for which as two old retirement couples my wife and I we have no means of raising loans which we would not want to do in any event The Lessee company is well aware of the government s statement that Building Owners should accept responsibility pay for the work and recover from those responsible for all defects In our case the Building Owners are making no effort to do this nor are they taking any action to assist us by making a contribution they extend full responsibility to their leaseholders whom they must now fully understand had no part in our building s demise To link this to the Grenfell tragedy as maintenance is a disgrace In my opinion a Building Owner is a risk taker relying on the large majority of Lessees to meet their financial obligations and thereby give them a healthy profit But our owners are taking no financial risk on this occasion and making no reward to us out of the profits that we have produced I am personally very disturbed that a plainly false Building Control Certificate which was issued to me allowed me to buy something that was so seriously wrong which the developer should not be allowed to escape from but for which we cannot take legal action on because after first paying for this repair work probably some 40 000 per flat we do not have any money left to take a long legal track to a court action So we lose anyway Thank you for your reply which is gratefully received and if you should see any way out of this incredibly unjust situation I would love to be informed Ernest Carmichael
