The photo projects are great but the content is just OK

The photo projects at the end of every chapter and getting feed back from on your photos is great but there needs to be a lot more of that That s really where the NYIP value proposition is - shooting the assignments and getting feedback The content itself is OK but nothing you can t find cheaper and presented in more interesting ways by watching Youtube reading photography websites blogs and reading actual books on photography - in fact in comparison I d say the depth of the content covered by NYIP is a little lacking while the breadth can feel overwhelming

Sorry for Three stars

Sorry for Three stars I am a return student and last time I took the course it was via cassette tapes I am a professional photographer and my work is very good jue to the training I recived at new York Institute of Photography You would turn in work and you would get your reply directly to you It just seamed more personal I am enjoying the coruse but having a hard time staying interested in it and it is taking a very long time I have not event sent in my first project yet Maybe it is just me I will continue and see if it changes fo rme

The course material is good learned a lot from it The instructor critiques is were I had issues They were prompt and thorough which I appreciated but more then once the instructor would get hung up on the subject of the picture The critiques would just turn into dialogue showing how out of touch they were with world and I think it reflected in some of my grades Because they didn t know what it was they couldn t score it do some research broaden your horizons

Coming up to about a third through the course Finding it quite dull to be honest I ve been a photographer for about 15 years Im not reading much that i don t know and the layout to m e is quite dated Its a very slow process to navigate through the interface online The books don t seem to be laid out in the same way so you can jump between them - online and hardcopy - without getting lost To be honest its probably time for an update of interface etc

Questionable Value

1 I took the Photoshop course Photoshop is a huge program covering many details many of them were not covered or just were touched on the surface About half of the course material had nothing to do with the Photoshop program which I wanted to learn Too much was devoted to general photography practices and to presentation of the finished product 2 I expected to get a manual covering the course material for future reference received none and was told that there is no manual available Luckily I screen printed the course pages as I was progressing They are quite general but still better than nothing 3 Videos included in the material were nice but too much time was spend on personal stories about the photographer presenting the video

Good materials if you overlook the glaring typos and incorrect quiz answers DEATH of Field The friction comes from the lack of follow through and communication For example I was told last month that it would take three days to change my Student Forum user name over to my actual name Still waiting
