Leeds 5day- passed 1st time but not a smooth experience

Went to the Leeds 5day driving course Credit where it is due the course prepares you really well for your driving theory test You don t experience as much driving as you think you will for the price you pay for the course You get about 4 hours per day Even though I did pass first time when I eventually took my test I think it was down to my own capabilities than anything else and here s why The instructor I had was late on more than 1 occasion frequently late back from lunch and I lost an hour of driving as he had to attend a practical test for a student booked from a previous week During my lessons my driving instructor was more concerned about his broken new phone linking to the Bluetooth in his car than paying attention to the road while I was driving This made me very uncomfortable and nervous as I was not confident driving without supervision at that stage Thirdly when the 5 days were up and I passed my theory my test was booked on a date that was 2 weeks away Unfortunately it was also booked on a day that I was busy and 5day did not help at all - in either changing it to a nearer or further date nor to a different test centre The only option they gave me was to cancel it all together So I used my own initiative logged on to the government website and manually got the test centre changed to a local one in edinburgh I travelled from edinburgh to Leeds specifically for the driving course I then hired a dual control car which I had never driven before on roads that I have never seen and passed first time Overall I think the course is okay and ofcourse everyone s experience will vary but it is not for everyone It worked well for me despite what I have mentioned above because I am okay with concentrating for long periods of time and pick up things easily If you are easily distracted or need lots of practice before picking things up this course may not be for you Sana

Sutton Coldfield Branch

Sutton Coldfield Branchso having taken this course I have to say it isn t worth 1000 the fact you have to pay for the test at the end of the course is just shocking you would think for the amount you paid they could stretch to included it In the price of the course I m not even sure it tells you on the web site you have to pay for the practical test also the theory practice is just shocking for a company that is over charging at least 400 there computer systems are shockingly outdated by years I mean windows XP really and the theory test software is from 2014 I found the 4 99 4 in 1 app I found on my phone helped me far more than the centre did on the site it looks like you have a trainer standing in front of you teaching you about the highway code theory but I only ever saw the trainer talk about any kind of theory for around 30 minutes the whole 5 days I was there and one last note you sit in a room full of computers for at least 3-4 hours that are running 247 which makes the room really hot and yet the company that just charged me 1000 can not even provide refreshments

5day will missell you this train you till you pass message they have online

The course and instructors where good but do not fall for there you get unlimited lessons to pass you dont its missold Its basically around 4 hours driving a day and a then theory practice But for a 1000 pound its not worth it a driving instructor will give you a lot more time in vehicle for that money Someone on my course had bever driven before Not suitable for that sort of driver at all If you have some previous driving experience then maybe this is good I did pass my test first time though But i had spent 50 or 60 hours in a car before taking course I can show you an emaul from them basically saying that they do not have to give you free unlimited correction lessons despite saying they do all over there website

Good course but useless in arranging lessons after

Over the 5 days its great and staff are helpful but as soon as it comes to trying to arranfe lessons after the course when youre test is in a days its impossible to get hold of your instructor or he wont contact you back when trying to arrange a lesson Wish i read some of the reviews before i booked my course

Could be better

My son has just attended the course which really helped him through his theory test as he was struggling His driver on the other hand was not so good he left my son for 2 hours outside while he went off to do something this course was a lot of money and straight away he lost 2 hours On the last day he did not even do half a day on maneuvers The catch is even when you have finished this course you still need lessons to be ready for your test really not impressed

Waste of money

I think if you ve previously had a few lessons then this course would be right for you but if your starting from scratch then I d definitely recommend going privately with an instructor instead of the course as it will save you a lot of money and you will learn better and more thorough as the course is very rushed I spent a lot of money on the course and then had to have about 20 more hours of lessons in which I paid for on top of the course otherwise I definitely wouldn t of passed I wouldn t recommend

Mixed feelings

Very happy with my instructor Mark at the Bury St Edmunds branch In 5 days he turned me into a pretty confident learner from a nervous non-driver So 5 for Mark Noble and the rest of the staff The reason for the 3 review is simply that I found the advertisement for the course quite misleading Making it appear you would be test-ready without having to spend any additional money on driving lessons

Unfortunately it s not a 100 positive plus updates

UPDATE it has now been 16 weeks since my week with 5day and I still do not have a test please just save your money you are not limited to 1 test centre so will get a test quicker than I have the test centre they use closes down in June but they won t let you book at the next available test centre until it actually closes down so I know I won t get a test date now until at least the end of June The DVSA are not going to hire any new instructors at the test centre for the period of 6-8 weeks Unfortunately it s not a 100 positive review There are some pro s such as Rafiq from the Sutton Coldfield branch is amazing heart of gold and his wife for letting me use her car because I preferred it I was probably his worst student in his 10 plus years but he was patient with me and got me through it The man doing the theory I can t remember his name was really thorough and was a nice relaxed environment to be in Just don t get in to debates about politics and you will like him You do learn a lot during the 4 hours driving more than you expect to Negatives When they say up to 75 quicker they really do mean the word UP TO it s been 4 weeks today since I finished my course and payed for my test and I m still number 25 on the waiting list My husband urged me to go on the course as he did it a few years ago and got his test booked for 5 days later They don t highlight that if the instructor dosnt feel you are test ready they won t recommend you for your test and they won t give you anymore lessons unless you pay for the course again so basically you only get corrective lessons if you fail your test and you can t take your test if the instructor does not feel you are ready 5 day can only book tests that DVSA release to them so it s not entirely their fault but I would recommend that they advertise waiting times for a test as a lot of people book this course so they can learn to drive and get a test quicker than the conventional route So as it stand there is a 12 week wait for tests at Sutton Coldfield due to the closures of test sites The only thing they do say on their site is that you don t get a test at the end of the week I had my theory at the end of the week but nothing about practical Most of the cons are in their terms and conditions but most people don t read them before booking because of how long they are or there are people who are neurodivergent so don t have the ability to understand the fine print So it would be beneficial that they highlight on their website on a realistic expectation or length of current waiting lists of the local test centres so people are not disappointed when they get there Especially the point that if the instructor does not feel you are ready you will have to pay for the course again 1 298 00 is a lot of money to risk having to pay again I ve already spoken to customer services and they don t seem to bothered about why as customers we are upset they just say they can t do anything Untill DVSA release dates which is true they can t but we also did not know we could be waiting 12 weeks for a test date Hope this helps someone to make an informed decision and gives 5 day some useful criticism to improve their service I ve given my reference number so 5day can not say it s a false review EDITAs you will see from their reply they take things out of context and do not read thoroughly as I said IT APPEARS they do not care I did not say they didn t the man I spoke to at 5day was not too helpful on my query As I stated every con is in their terms and conditions but not everybody reads them again in their response this seems to of been ignored I did not say you HAVE to book through them but as they advertise as an intensive driving course that can get you passed fast this is certainly not the case I tried to remain objective in my review leaving any emotions out of it and state my experience of the company it APPEARS 5 day do not like this and anyone who is contracted by them will tell you they are losing custom due to the issues stated above they used to have 15-20 students at any one time now they are lucky if they have 10 When I was there it was only 5 Please save yourselves the money of 1 200 and go with a private instructor who will give you what you pay for Their response speaks for themselves I was advised I was number 25 on the waiting list for Sutton Coldfield centres but as 5day have said they do not have a waiting list and use estimates I will be calling to make a official complaint because I know what I was told and I will record the phone call of this because I will not tolerate them telling me one thing but then another on my review of the company on a public page This is disgusting I will update if I get a test before the 12 week mark
