The python bootcamp was a great

The python bootcamp was a great starting place The bootcamp goes through a lot of material and you have an additional portfolio project Additionally a lot of outside research is required to complete the assignments

I joined Nucamp because I saw the cost

I joined Nucamp because I saw the cost of it was a lot cheaper than the traditional coding bootCamp I know most of them you still end up self teaching with youtube udemy and Codecademy and other resources and use parter programming I figured even if Nucamp was the same I would be saving a lot of money but still get the accountability boot camp grad title and all the networking at a cheaper price Well I honestly think a lot of the material is lacking and definitely need outside resources to learn more things But the rest of what I initially thought was pretty accurate

Python course review

Based on the first five-week course Python Fundamentals I want to share my experience with the Nucamp Back End SQL and DevOps with Python Bootcamp I like Nucamp because the founder Ludo is transparent about the program In his weekly YouTube show Campfire he mentioned that students would have to supplement using this program He says there are better and free curriculums but the main reason for choosing Nucamp is the weekend 4-hour live workshop He talks about how people rarely finish these free programs I ve started a few and haven t finished so I relate So going into the program I knew it wouldn t have the best curriculum So why choose Nucamp I chose Nucamp because it s affordable When I signed up it was five payments of 385 with the early bird discount Also the workshop provides the accountability I need Since I will meet with my cohort on the weekend I will complete everything on time so I won t be behind The first couple of weeks were not smooth sailing As I got used to the assignments I learned that I needed to be able to write what my code was doing in paragraph form Explaining it in words helped me learn all of the proper terminologies for Python The weekend workshop assignment always explained what to do using Python terminology so I would waste lots of time figuring out what I was being asked to do That struggle helped me see that I wasn t learning the concepts So I started adding comments to the exercises in my code files explaining definitions of things and why I m doing what I m doing As I mentioned Nucamp lessons will ask you to seek outside sources to learn each lesson Some resources I use are Code With Mosh Python for Everybody and Udacity s free Intro to Python course Nucamp asks for feedback on the teacher and the curriculum every week Feedback is shared with the teacher and it s supposed to be anonymous My teacher adjusted his approach to the class after receiving feedback He ensured we knew he wanted us to ask questions if we needed to My overall impression of Nucamp is that it is responsive to feedback They update their curriculum more often than some of the other boot camps I considered And since it s affordable if I decide I don t want to work with Python or SQL in the future I won t feel like I wasted money by trying it To recap I chose Nucamp because it is affordable offers live help in the weekend workshops or help by chat on Slack and offers structured learning and accountability Now that I finished the first month I would have chosen the Udacity Python Nanodegree because it s curriculum is much better it offers weekly calls with a mentor job search coaching and at 399 a month it is more affordable It s possible to finish a Nanodegree in two months so that s about 800 or less if there s a discount Since outstanding curricula are available online for free you don t need a boot camp to learn code I chose this route for support and accountability but many choose to learn independently

Everyone was very friendly and open to

Everyone was very friendly and open to help with whatever issues may have come about It did push me to do something different in a world I was familiar with but have no idea what it all entailed Was NuCamp for me I don t think so because I need more of a one-on-one aspect of teaching But for the price and getting a feel for what you want to do This is it

Looking to change careers I decided to

Looking to change careers I decided to enroll in a bootcamp I have learned a great deal but still feel I am not ready or feel I have the direction needed to change careers I had no coding background I feel this bootcamp is more tailored for people with some background in web development This is a not a bootcamp that seems to be really geared or equipped to take you from non developer to developer If that is your hope maybe look at other bootcamps If you want a lower cost option and have a background in programming then this may be for you

You get what you pay for

What led me to Nucamp was the price and the scholarships available for women I felt all the information learned was valuable however the pace at which you learn is very accelerated for a person that has never coded before Learning key concepts took more time than given to fully understand Im still trying to rap my head around some concepts that I thought I knew but when I try to apply them I ve actually completely forgotten Over all despite the material pace I feel more aware of the concepts despite not fully grasping the concepts I believe my learning style is more traditional in nature and less reliant on videos Even with all the outside assistance from sling to websites it could never take the place of an actual instructional class setting Im not sure Nucamp is a good fit for me to continue with further courses but it will not stop me from finding the bootcamp that fits my learning style

My experience with Nucamp has been Decent

My experience with Nucamp has been mostly positive Covering HTML and CSS in a weeks time felt a touch challenging but not overwhelming This began to change when we started covering JavaScript I believe it was too much too fast With a bit more time I m confident I could get the hang of it but time was a luxury I didn t have One particular point of frustration perhaps a compliment was while their video lectures were up to date in regards to modern coding practices most websites that were refered to for extra studing were using outdated practices This was even an issue when looking up videos on YouTube That being said I found the final JS project to be quite daunting If you have a part-time job retired or a Type-A personality that can perfectly balance day job school life I would highly recomend this course Otherwise I d highly suggest one get a solid grasp of JS on their own before enrolling P S -- I m now realising that my completion of this course is contingent on me posting reviews of the school on SEVERAL websites Frankly they ve lost a star for this
