Moved a sofa and two boxes three hundred kilometres by posting the job here and letting carriers bid. Ended up paying less than half of what a dedicated moving firm quoted, and the driver who won the job was punctual, wrapped everything himself, and sent photos at pickup and drop-off. The escrow-style payment release after delivery gave me confidence. Minor gripes: bids trickle in slowly at first so posting early matters, and one bidder spammed me with messages I had to ignore.
