Disgusting agency for renters

My review is regarding the lettings team and renting with the landlord Clydesdale Group or any of their associated companies e g Templeton Stockbridge More info on issues I ve had with the Clydesdale rentals below Elmfield block and Clydes Dale Court Make sure you have everything in writing Clarify any ambiguity no matter how small over email Charters will continuously mislead you and intentionally lie with false information in order to secure deposits and have agreements signed If this happens you can contact your financial institute through which you paid My bank confirmed that my deposit was obtained fraudulently and could be claimed as a scam Anything in writing is your evidence They will go back on everything written and verbal e g their recorded calls and claim misunderstandings every time They probably won t honour what they initially agreed but it s useful to have the evidence for claims or if you need to get out of the agreement early If you do rent with them they will likely send outdated inventories so you have to spend hours fixing and updating it essentially doing their job for them And then they ll try to blame you for issues they failed to record on the check in inventory You need to be really thorough with the inventory to ensure you get your deposit back They take 3 months to carry out repairs and hire contractors that do shoddy jobs that cause further damage if they even bother to do the repair There is no communication you have to chase up everything and then they try to deflect the blame Management is just as bad Finally got in touch with a director 6 months into my tenancy only to get more excuses minimising glossing over things not bothering to look into the details complaints properly and taking no accountability Minimal morals and minimal care for tenants What s worse is that Charters staff gaslight you and are passive aggressive Elmfield block - if you do a Google search you will see that I am not the only one that was lied to by Charters and vital H S information withheld They lied about mould issues the type of construction being done at the time and ongoing water contamination concerns After being caught out they blamed it on a new staff member not being aware except she wasn t new she moved from sales to rentals and the manager also didn t disclose any of these issues on the numerous occasions I spoke with her Clydes Dale Court - Landlord refused to address mould and damp issues caused by various leaks despite being made aware of their legal obligations There is a dampness and ventilation issue in the whole building resulting in a silverfish pest issue I reported this multiple times and nothing was done - Charters and the landlord lied to me about which furniture I was going to be provided I rented a fully furnished house--I have everything in writing about which furniture was agreed to and was told that it would be brand new furniture On move in day 90 of the furniture was either missing or not correct some of it really old and in poor condition This was never resolved - I was assured it would be professionally cleaned There were urine stains on the bathroom wall Every radiator covered in layers of dust spider webs dog hair Mould on every window sill and in the kitchen walls Dirty surfaces Stains on walls and skirting including a brown stain near the bathroom switch Overgrown garden with dog faeces and covered with trash amounting to bin bag full once picked up Carpet smelled of wet dog after supposed professional clean for duration of my tenancy - There is a sewage issue for all the apartments To make it worse they run sewage pipes for many of the toilets inside the house as in IN the living space including the kitchen as a resolution rather than do the job correctly So if a pipe was to leak the room would be covered in sewage - Numerous counts of unauthorised entry by contractors when I wasn t home despite me saying that I do not want any entry without my presence or knowledge and that this is illegal Also had a contractor try to enter using his own copy knowing that I was home I was told by one contractor that all the contractors have copies of keys to all the apartments which is not safe at all They eventually changed my locks after 7 months of me living there because I had evidence that someone entered while I was on holiday and because I said I was going to report it to the council and the police Do not confuse the good reviews mostly from sales as getting quality service The staff are incompetent lazy and appear to lack in intelligence--it s been like talking to a brick wall to most of them Read the other negative reviews and you ll notice a reoccurring theme from renters

Rented with Charters Park Gate for 1 year in 2023 Before signing the contract all the staff we encountered was polite helpful and prompt however we have been assigned as the property manager Kelly Santos which was just a nightmare Had to reach out multiple times to get simple things fixed The only issues throughout the year being a faulty light switch and microwave She would literally just straight up ignore us for many weeks had to call nearly every day of our holiday just for her to acknowledge us Fast forward to the end our rent and the employee Madeline Armstrong - we left the flat sparkly clean and took pictures of everything before leaving unlike how we found it cupboards full to the brim with garbage Even had the carpets throughout the property professionally cleaned which made it look like new Was then made to pay a cleaning charge which was not mentioned in the contract whatsoever for ridiculous reasons things that had wear tear signs from before we moved in I have tried getting in touch again multiple times and been told that she ll contact me Mentioned that I would happily pay the fee as long as I see a receipt from the cleaning company to see that s where my money went She just left me a voicemail saying that they are not obligated to show me a receipt and left it there After weeks of hassle I just let it go as they were holding my deposit Such a nightmare team Will never rent or buy from Charters again I am sure this was an isolated case as the rest of the team that we ve met were 10 10 but it s good to take in consideration that this might happen to other people as well if you re unfortunate enough Not sure if the above 2 still work for Charters as this happened in December 2023

After leaving a previous review of my poor experience Charters hassled me multiple times in order I believe to try and get me to remove my previous reviews they offered hollow apologies and nothing else

The worst letting agency I ve dealt

The worst letting agency I ve dealt with money grabbers and totally unprofessional I ve lost almost 2k because of these agents Not only was the central heating not working without my knowledge it was raising my electricity bill to 350 per month When notified to seek compensation as it s the landlord landlady s responsibility to keep everything in the property in check before and after a tenant enters simply said because you didn t report it sooner you are liable That kind of behaviour is toxic and not fair you pay for the goods and you get the goods but not with this case The house was not in good condition when entering one of the worst rat infested houses too Not only was the inventory clerk unprofessional he she missed so many defects and the way they hid things with the photos in check in is appalling Literally lost for words on what s unfolded I should ve went legal and taken everything I could Be aware people don t let the reviews fool you and triple check everything because they cannot be trusted I wouldn t even recommend them just move to another letting agency

Terrible communication

Terrible communication say they will call back then dont they all sound very confused in the letting department and have often asked me for the same information numerous times to be passed on - then when I call back because no one calls me back they ask all over again just avoid Plenty other good agents to use - Shannon Simon at Romsey have been horrendous

Negligent No accountability Financial Exploitation and non-Compliant - not a member of the PRS

I waited ten weeks to move into a property in August and asked Charters Lettings agent on behalf of Oakhill Properties Leicester Ltd to ensure the property was professionally cleaned This was agreed in our contract and yet Charters completely failed to deliver on this The previous tenant had five animals in a small two bed house so I specifically asked for a professional cleaning When I arrived to move into the property it was unclean animal and human hair hundreds counted grease dirt dust and debris throughout This is not what you expect for a property costing 1850 per month The carpets were filthy with visible animal stains and soiling evident and the landlord did a botch job attempt to cover up badly marked paintwork with patches in the wrong colour showing a total disrespect for myself as a tenant Over the last nine weeks I ve experienced the following and unbelievably this situation is still unresolved Despite my financial offers to enable everyone to move on even though they breached the contract and they know they could re-let in no time at all No Property Inspection or Professional Cleaning Charter s didn t inspect the property and failed to bring the cleaning up to standard I even offered to change my move in date and give them time to resolve it which they totally ignored Ignored Evidence They disregarded my evidence including photos and independent check-in report that confirmed the property hadn t been professionally cleaned Disregard for Tenant s Well-Being Charters showed no concern for the disruption to me even though I had to move everything back into storage They expected me to move in despite the hygiene and allergy related risks Lack of Financial Help or Flexibility Mediating When mediating between myself and the landlord they offered no help to facilitate an agreement that would mean accepting any liability then completely washed their hands of any responsibility leaving me to deal with a landlord I have never had any contact with Condition of the Property The property had many marks on the walls and carpets that would have ended up as my liability despite me not even moving in Mis-representation and Manipulation They regularly misunderstood misinterpreted and misrepresented my communications to cover up for their failings Slow Communications Weeks would pass with no communication from Charters or the landlord leaving the property vacant in the meantime Financial Manipulation Despite many financial offers my side to end this situation where I was expected to move into an unclean property Charters and the landlord not only declined them but also attempted to profit They demanded the equivalent of 2 5 months rent fees to cover the landlords costs and hundreds of pounds in agency fees none of which were applicable as I never moved in and knowing the fact they could re-let the property very quickly Lack of accountability Not once have I been called by Charters to resolve this situation I had to call them every time and returned my keys after six days Yet they still accept no responsibility To make matters worse despite going through their complaints procedure I have found out Charters is not a member of the Property Redress Scheme Their complaints procedure hasn t been updated in five years Over the course of however many months they ve mis-represented this fact to customers at all their branches Whether you re buying selling or renting think twice before using Charters

Don t trust Charters when buying a house because you will be very disappointed as it will probably be Sold before even being put on their site This happened to us recently House on site that day SOLD even though phoned on same day mmmm smacks of sharp practices

Awful

Awful Don t be fooled by their flashy website and fancy offices These guys turned up with prospective viewers at my rented flat with no notice and then phoned ostensibly to apologise - in fact to tell me further booking were scheduled with less than 24 hours notice in violation of the lease Be warned also that in 2022 they took over the portfolio and staff of St Moores Lettings which were one of the worst estate agents in Southampton This company lied about major problems with properties in order to tenants to get them to sign tenancies didn t fix things in the flat properly and were generally rude unhelpful and money-grubbing As such be extremely wary if renting a property from Charters that was formerly managed by St Moores as there will almost certainly be serious issues with it
