Misleading user interface and defiant support staff
Once I joined Geneanet I discovered that it did not meet my needs so I cancelled within a few days The user interface led me to believe that I had successfully done that To my surprise after a month I received an email to tell me that my subscription had been automatically renewed I contacted them immediately to explain that this was a mistake The contact person was particularly unhelpful and despite my best efforts to ask for a refund they simply doubled down and refused to do that I consider that theft Then in looking at this site I discover that several other people have had exactly the same experience I have a very poor impression of this company and would never recommend them to anyone

Empty Promises
This is a genealogical data base with very sparse data They don t have enough data to justify their prices It is more scant than many free sites And my spam went from a few per week to hundreds per week It may be happenstance but I personally wonder Save your for a real genealogical data site

Only found 260 matches
Only found 260 matches compared to 5000 on ancestry com And I m European I need to scan every single person with the result that it finds someone completely different The German website is badly translated I can guess what they mean but some stuff doesn t even make sense

Oh no Ancestry bought Geneanet
Ancestry recently acquired Geneanet so we are now getting a whole new addition of hints that are poorly sourced and just plain wrong I find some of the more current generations information fairly accurate but you often get absolute garbage when you go back to the Great Migration period 1620-1660 for New England Accurate information for that period is available for members from the NEHGS and their website AmericanAncestors org I am a long time member The cost of annual membership is far lower than what Ancestry charges and you get serious genealogy instead of junkyard genealogy

Absolutely horrid experience
Absolutely horrid experience Was charged when I was not supposed to be and when I requested a refund I was met with a snarky response and denied a refund When I responded and called out the rudeness and horrible service their support doubled down with additional snarky comments SCAM Stay away

Geneanet is an unreliable source of information
Since becoming an Ancestry member several years ago I have been busy building my family tree using certified records certificates censuses etc I have had a DNA test and use Thru Lines to help verify my DNA matches to my cousins I recently discovered Geneanet had been added to Ancestry I naively thought it would prove to be a source of useful information Nearly every profile that I looked at today had incorrect information either the full name was wrong dates of death didn t correspond with dates of birth etc I even had one profile showing two spouses and a mismatch of children This site needs to be removed It represents a total antithesis of what ancestry research is all about Edit after reviewing Geneanet s response Clearly the action they say they have taken is ineffective and inadequate because if there wasn t an existing problem I would not have posted this in the first place

Scammers
Paid for a premium subscription to access what was claimed to be my own genealogy After I paid the document turned out to be nothing I was redirected to a free website where the exact document could already be viewed I contacted this and these scammers referred to the terms and conditions and that no money was returned
