Mixed bag with a strong finish
I recently used Gordon Brown Law for the sale and puchase of my house They were assigned to me by Purple Bricks My experience was a bit of a mixed bag On a negative side I found communication was a struggle - I only spoke to my conveyancer directly on the Friday before my completion on Monday despite calling the office on many occasions Email response time varied - sometimes I didn t hear anything other times I got a near immediate reply Gordon Brown Law have a number of different assistants who handle calls before passing you through to your conveyancer which I can understand however can be frustrating as the updates they have are that you have sent an email - which you are already aware of what you re trying to understand is what is going on on their side I found the approach to be reactive rather than proactive perhaps an indication of being overloaded meaning there seemed to be little active chasing on delays on my buyer s side and resulted in me fielding a lot of calls from my seller s estate agent looking for information I didn t have I think it would be good to have a semi-regular weekly update - even if the update is that you have chased and not received a response This would ve made me feel as though there was action ongoing rather than weeks of non-communication On a positive note the process was managed well on my side searches enquiries etc If you don t have any urgency you can be confident that Gordon Brown Law will get the job done it just might not be as quick as you d like I must also call out Paul Mansell for his management of my case on completion day The ineptitude of my buyer s solicitor can t be understated - and when it seemed like we were going to have to push completion back despite having vans hired packed and ready to unload Paul kept on the case kept me informed of what was happening and what he was doing to ensure completion Paul hung back after hours to make sure he got the paperwork through and to make sure I could collect my keys that night Whilst unfortunately it meant I wasn t able to physically move in as intended due to the late hour - not Gordon Brown Law s fault it meant that I could relax in the knowledge I had secured my onward purchase
