I love the fact that I can quickly move

I love the fact that I can quickly move through my courses Many of my professors have been great However I do believe that the workload in some classes has been Too much One way to deal with that would be to assign heavy assignments to groups to work on together Making this a part NU classes would be so helpful The last thing I struggle with is that my advisors are not available after hours nor for phone conversations This is inconvenient when I really need human help and not just an email Also my advisors often act as if the don t have time to really help because they are just too busy NU continuing to use Covid as a reason to not be as available for their students is incredibly discouraging Bring back on campus classes

You have two choices at NU dogma or education

Computer Science courses my field are ABET-certified like MIT and Harvard and the majority of the professors within this department know what they are doing and care about your progress and understanding of the material However the general education courses are a joke with the exception of Prof Zukas history class and Prof Oh s math class The majority are so filled with social justice clap-trap it s difficult to find the so-called education anywhere If you are transferring credits from another college and have all your general education completed good Enjoy the university If not you ll be wasting your money on Marxist dogma instead of education It s up to you

National is so so could be better

National is so so I believe that systematically it can do better The teachers did a good job overall and I benefited from my program but definitely would have liked more real life scenarios as it feels the curriculum is dated and school counseling is only seen through a theories and readings and does not give a real life perspective of what true school counseling entails Overall a program that gets the job done and gets you a diploma that you pay for

Make sure and do your research

Make sure and do your research National is ok but there are other schools I should have looked into and paid half of the price There were a few professors that were very helpful in my journey to become a teacher but otherwise I feel that I was not as prepared for the amount of money I spent I did however like the 4-week format if you did not like a class it would be over within 4 weeks I have been sent several emails regarding Alumni info however when I send an email to get help regarding something to do with my program I get no answer There are definitely pros and cons to each program

Credential Program

I enjoyed the in-person classes and the credential support staff Although I learned a lot I do not feel that the credential program prepared me for the classroom I would have appreciated knowing more on how to scaffold instruction across multiple grades and abilities IEP preparation and presentation and simplified data collection

There are equal enough pros and cons in my experience

I began my journey with National in March 2020 I had lot of people recommended the university and my main focus of choosing a university for their price and convenience due to having young children Back in February 2020 the application process was very easy and there was a lot information in the beginning from the advisors and credential specialists Cons After that they dropped off the face of the earth till I had questions I had to reach out to start my internship even though I was eligible long before I started I also wanted to get a second credential but it was much more complicated then the specialist initially discussed I nearly missed out on graduation until I reached out to figure out that I was eligible Then when it was time to apply for preliminary credential I had no idea that my degree wasn t conferred until I had reached out and they put it in the system This may also be just general credentialing but there was great learning material but not enough information to help a new teacher survive My intern teacher was great with communicating as far as through the phone But really her skills stopped short there She took my situation into consideration but did not fully back me when I had real issues with my on-site mentor that was issued by my district She knew the mentor did not have my credential but sided with her more often than not She also was very disorganized and was not clear with her instructions especially when it came to vital pieces that ensured I d be applying my credential Pros The classes were manageable enough to have a family and a job Many of the professors were flexible and gave extensions if you communicated well My father had passed away in the middle of the semester and the emotional support team was very caring and thoughtful They helped me drop the class without much of a repercussion The cost of tuition was very reasonable and I received a lot of scholarships discounts Overall I would recommend national university but I would caution anyone of my own experience If I was well informed and checked in more often many of the problems would have existed

Communication has been poor

Communication has been poor I am told one thing by one person then something different by someone else The perfect example is I completed my last class for the credential department at the end of July I was contacted by the credential department asking for things they already had like my college transcripts and CPR and First Aid certification After we confirmed I had everything turned in in July I receive an email on August 19 I have not contacted a lady named Norma in the Credential department Because of this I cannot exit If things are not completed by August 29 I am going to be reenrolled into an intern program which I do not need to given I have passed everything and I am not working at the same school teaching Health Threats Really I am contacted by the credential department in July and again by the credential department in August indicating I have not contacted the credential department to exit the school even though Norma s email indicated she was told I completed the program Additionally I postponed taking ITL 528 for my second single subject credential in Physical Education so I could received the Fast Track Scholarship I am now receiving a bill for a class I was told qualified for the scholarship I kept checking my NU email and nothing about contacting Norma was ever received

The delay in response is frustrating

The delay in response is frustrating I feel that due to how rapid the courses are the administration should be rapid paced as well

I don t feel this school is completely

I don t feel this school is completely geared towards hard working individuals Professors and resources are not available and responsive as one would hope The costs associated would warrant such availability and greater response

Very difficult advising system with

Very difficult advising system with misinformation The lack of explanation of how the financial aid is not dispersed until 4-6 weeks after courses start is also a downside especially when you need to plan for your futures I had 4 separate advisors and each provided misinformation in regards to my master s program I was never sent an application for the program and was told I could submit undergraduate essays This just was not true Lesson Don t assume anything and if I doesn t seem to sit well continue to advocate for yourself Classes seem to be solid with professors that have experience with real life application When I went through this process I thought about how many people would have gone somewhere else strictly based off advising They are your first impression and these issues need to be addressed on an organizational level with some direction
