Overall good experience

Overall I ve had a good experience with UOPX and I m glad I made the decision to complete the competency-based program The 3 things keeping me from giving 5 stars are the lack of orientation to the software itself I ve never attended school online before and due to never seeing the full feedback from one instructor I had to accept a lower grade one assignment I tripped across apparent link to unlock the full feedback one day after submitting that paper 3 times so I was out of attempts No documentation was provided as to where to click for feedback so naturally I was clicking the comment bubble Turns out the full feedback comes up with you click over Attempt 1 2 3 but nothing is on the page to suggest that That class remains my only ME the rest are MA s so I m upset about that Second an instructor who is not computer savvy and docked credit on a submission based on their inability to download my submission I contested the grade had a lot of back and forth and eventually UOPX IT had to reach out to them to instruct them on what they were doing wrong Last I spoke to an advisor about it who stated they were submitting it as a complaint they set up a date and time to call me back and check-in They stated someone from their team would call within 48 hours regarding the complaint to also follow up with me I never received a call and the advisor did not call for our scheduled appt either so absolutely no follow-up

My UoP EXPERIENCE

The simplified application process is great it gave me a chance to finally enroll for my MBA Having an undergraduate from outside the country has been frustrated by other universities but UoP made it a good experience The advisors and support system is great The cost of the program is relatively affordable That made it easier to make the decision to enrol online school is the way to go and UoP has taken it up well what we can improve on is better class interactions with both the instructors and with other students we can learn from each others experiences otherwise its been great for me and i am loving it Looking forward to graduating with my MBA pretty soon

Competency Based

The course content is up to date and directly applicable to healthcare work environments today The rubrics are well laid out making self study manageable There are many resources available at your fingertips from content experts to the University Library I was able to manage a more than full time career family and school

Overall happy but advisor case load is too much

I like how quick the classes are the feedback from my instructors while also being able to work on my own at my own pace Trying to communicate with advisors is not near is easy or smooth I understand that at any given point advisors have an insane number of students to be in contact with but that is a problem for them AND a problem for students I am lucky I haven t needed to contact mine often but during my first class and getting started I had questions that were just not getting answered because I was not getting called back from my initial advisor Penny Perkins I don t want to come down on her either I have no doubt that she is overwhelmed by her case count but something has to break

VA underpayment and attendance policy

Overall my experience had been a positive one but what upsets me is how attendance is taken for VA chapter 35 benefits I attend class nonstop all year and am suppose to receive monthly payments of roughly 1400 I count on that money to help me get through school What happens is the university destiny record attendance of week 5 so this signals to VA I am not in full attendance yet I m docked a whole month off my my VA trials but do not receive full payment amounts I feel that if I attend school everyday every month I should get my full allotted amount I think the university needs to rethink their attendance policy

Before university of Phoenix

Before university of Phoenix my only college experience was in class-room at a jr college where I got an associate degree I actually went to several community colleges in the Puget Sound area Three of them are regular colleges now After this I did have extensive personal study in history topics Many years worth I actually wrote three books during this period A family history and two transportation industry books One on the merchant marine and one on airline maintenance My only online experience was U of Phoenix So I have nothing to compare it with I did notice that all textbooks were McGraw-Hill and I know that firm has been making textbooks used in the big name universities for well over a century So even though U of P sometimes gets mixed reviews that was clearly a plus At first it was fairly easy for the bachelor program but did get more difficult and the MBA program was challenging I very much appreciated the fact the instructors for the most part were real industry people and not crazy liberals pushing a liberal political agenda that one so often hears about in the academic context There were a couple goofy ones but they were an extreme minority

So far university of Phoenix has been an excellent opportunity for me to have a work life balance from home The professors are super supportive and helpful Only down side is that the time it takes to complete the degree the double up program sadly costs double the money making it hard to afford making the time shorter
