Update 9th JuneWe have today been credited with a full refund direct to our bank account by wendy Wu I did not have to email them one of their staff telephoned me last week to let me know the refund was being processed I was impressed as it is only 4 weeks since our date we were due to travel 3rd May I don t understand why they were initially telling me it would be possibly over a year To wait We do hope to get to China one day but not in the foreseeable future Thank you Wendy Wu UPDATE 14th AprilStill trying to get refund of 7728 from Wendy Wu and have again had the standard email advising we need to rebook as we have refund travel credit being held on our account We don t wish to rebook but they have stated in the email that any refund would likelytake over a year and to avoid the stress of waiting we should rebook We paid our balance on 2nd March so surely they couldn t have paid that out already No thank you ABTA CEO Mark Tanzer spoke on BBC 10th April stating they would take action against any of their members refusing to repay customers Will now be trying to phone them to explain the situation we are in with Wendy Wu We were due to travel on a wonder of China tour with Wendy Wu on 3rd May and have paid in full Our visas were granted on 26th Feb shortly before we found out that all tours were deferred Some tours that were departing earlier than ours did have full refund but unfortunately wendy wu are giving us the information that we can only have a refund credit note to be used before Dec 2021 and have urged us to rebook our holiday in line with ABTA advice I m sure it says on the ABTA sure that if the refund credit note is not used by July 31 st we would be entitled to a full cash refund As my husband has progressive cartilage deterioration in his knee we would prefer to rebook once he has managed to have a knee operation as his mobility may be reduced more if we had to go next year I emailed wendy wu explaining this but had the same response - no cash refund only credit note What can we do Wendy Wu adds that they take the health and well-being of their customers very seriously but clearly not if we have to take our holiday next year when my husband could have further knee problems I feel the time will not be right next year but cannot afford to lose nearly 8000 as our insurance will not now cover us for China due to fco advice to not travel

We have just returned from Japan
We have just returned from Japan Uncovered Tour which I have to say was quite a disappointing experience all in all The food was mostly substandard and always cold One of the meals had been on the table for over an hour before we arrived as my husband and I saw it set up while having a drink as the other tour group members were walking around the gardens It was left for all this time in 36deg heat uncovered I have to say we ended up eating out alot of times and not going to the group dinners as the quality was pretty poor and very repetitive The hotels were very hit and miss with the standard I know hotel rooms are small in Japan but it was more about the grade of the room It very much felt like Wendy Wu had cut costs to the bare minimum It would have been nice to have had food which each region was known for like Oysters in Hiroshima etc All in all very disappointing it just felt like a very cheap holiday

Not Worth What We Paid
My husband and I have just come back from a Vietnam Cambodia Discovery tour with Wendy Wu comprising of 18 people and we were very fortunate to travel with a really wonderful group Our guide did his best to accommodate us all and was very keen to explain about the life religion and history of Vietnam It had been some time since we had travelled to an Asian country and the sewage and rubbish issues had been forgotten but sadly in Vietnam we were faced with both head on We found it very disappointing that both these areas of waste particularly the plastic appear not to be an issue particularly when you see the first world buildings in the cities and note the areas around government precincts parks are clean and tidy Halong Bay was the most disappointing in terms of waste management particularly as it s a UNESCO world heritage site and really beautiful Obviously the tour cruise operators don t know this as upon dusk we noticed what appeared to be toilet paper being forced out of the bottom of our cruise vessel and could only assume the sewage tanks under the vessel where being emptied and the slimy skim on the surface seemed to confirm this If this is the practice of every vessel and there s a lot dumped raw sewage into this stunning area I certainly wouldn t be eating any oysters from there and no wonder the pearl farms do well I would like to know what UNESCO are doing about this In our cabin on Emeraude Cruise there was a note saying Throwing garbage in Halong Bay is strictly prohibited kindly use garbage bins at all times Not sure there would be one big enough for the sewage or waste created by the patrons on these vessels In terms of taking a Wendy Wu tour well for the money we paid I wasn t expecting to be sharing accommodation with TripaDeal low cost travel company patrons Not that I have an issue with the people it s more the fact that TripaDeal do Vietnam at 50 of our cost so to find us sharing and predominantly doing the same things was an eye opener Some of our accommodation appeared to be on the town fringes the meals were mostly share plates with the same theme i e soup spring rollls meat not always sure what that was as dog has been know to be on the menu chicken fish which we didn t eat based on the condition of the rivers and veggie dIshes followed by fruit Most of the lunchtime meals were at restaurants set up for the tourists and I m quite sure there were TripaDeal patrons eating in these places also Some of the stated activities on our itinerary we didn t do and others turned out to be nothing like what the itinerary said So in conclusion we found this tour to be expensive based on where we stayed included meals and activities Whilst it included international and domestic flights these had to be paid for 9 months prior to our departure to get a good price and this was non-refundable so you are basically committed to going And just as an added cost we also need to buy 120US each to give to our guide for tipping In terms of Vietnam as a destination well I certainly wouldn t rate it It s crazy busy people aren t as polite as I was lead to believe unless they re taking your money the rubbish sewage and lack of concern for both is really disappointing given the huge population It has some interesting sites to visit but don t let the brochure pictures fool you into thinking it s a beautifully pristine environment

At a cost of 8k I expected a better standard of service overall but was truly disappointed Their sales team is effective but once the tour is paid for the after care drops drastically The guide did not speak good English Some of the hotels were very basic The pace of tour was not level 1 - it was a very busy schedule with a lot of walking and hardly any down time Long coach trips on coaches of very basic standards Japan is a beautiful country but I would have enjoyed it better and in comfort with a company who provided a higher standard of service

I did the highlights of Sri Lanka with Wendy wu
I did the highlights of Sri Lanka with Wendy Wu a beautiful country but this trip was just too packed We had an amazing guide and driver but there was just too much one day we caught the train to the tea plantation arrived in the dark and left early in the morning in the dark again 5 hours each way to see nothing The food was really poor all meals for all 16 days were lukewarm buffets apart from a packed lunch on the train The country is fantastic but pick a tour with better food and slower paced

Expected better for the price
When booking this very expensive holiday for our Golden Wedding celebration I thought it would be the trip of a lifetime So wrong The group was too big and with different fitness levels a few of our group really struggled to keep up with the fast pace of the tour guide who had to choice but to leave several people to struggle We did the Japan Uncovered tour and though we enjoyed some of the sites the Japanese food was awful and very poor throughout We had a bad storm when we were due to sail on Lake Ashi and the cable car and our actual compensation they didn t have an alternative trip organised in case of any problems was 2 free drinks each at our evening meal Our tour guide was lovely but completely overwhelmed with trying to fit everything in and keep some of the moaners happy It just didn t work and I now wish we had chosen a different destination for the main part of our celebration or stayed at home and spent the money more wisely The hotels were nice but our lasting memory will be of the amazing toilets which is really sad A huge disappointment Read the reviews before booking your trip of a lifetime

Will probably look at another company next time
We did the Japan Uncovered tour with the intention of seeing Japan cherry blossom and experiencing the japanese culture In this respect we were not disappointed The hotels were excellent the food was delicious but strange the places we visited ranged from interesting to awesome Transport was a little lacking for over 8 grand per person I expected better than what seemed a run-of-the-mill coach with no toilet facilities or USB charging points But perhaps coaches like that don t exist in japan The guides were a mixed bunch we had three over the two weeks The first one s language and communications skills were diabolical I think the word fluent has a different definition in japan It required intense concentration to take in what she was saying and most people in our group gave up after a few minutes which meant that a lot of information was missed Having said that she got us where we needed to be at the right time and never lost anyone The following two guides were much better The Wendy Wu brochure seems deliberately vague about fitness levels required Our holiday required people to be of fitness level 1 but this isn t accurately defined anywhere Some days we were walking up to 7 miles and climbing over 200 very uneven stairs and several people were simply unable to manage this and were very unhappy about being misled As ever we had some people in our group who like to moan about everything I don t like fish The food is cold Why do we get rice with everything People need to be realistic about what experiencing japanese culture actually means Overall it was a good and enjoyable holiday and we got to see everything we expected but it was very very expensive and next time we will probably try another company

We went to Japan in July with Wendy Wu
We went to Japan in July with Wendy Wu and were very disappointed with the repetitious itinerary mainly temples shrines and gardens and virtually nothing of city life the cultural aspect of life We felt frustrated and sad that we saw so little of Japanese life it looked like a beautiful country Including things such as a cooking class a fish market rice farm city walking tour something fun would have made a huge difference Our guide was lovely and very capable hotels were excellent and the food was enjoyable but not enough variety and far too much tofu

Jewels of Japan feedback
We chose to go to Japan for a special celebration to mark our retirement Our local travel agent recommended Wendy Wu tours The brochure and itinerary looked perfect and the experience included everything that we were led to expect of it HOWEVER there were some important shortcomings that gave us the feeling that we did not get value for money and left us disappointed The long journey and very late arrival meant that we missed the welcome meeting as did half the group and there was a last minute change of hotel Not a good start Generally the hotels we stayed in were budget range and the rooms very small most of the hotels had no lounge or bar facilities The food throughout was very poor with little variety We were really excited about experiencing Japanese cuisine but we had several identical meals that in some cases were almost inedible There was a lot of time spent travelling between sites which we understand is necessary but it meant we had no time to relax at any point on the trip Our guide Naomi was excellent and we were fortunate to have had some lovely fellow guests in our group The itinerary was managed well and the sites were wonderful but the accommodation and food was not up to the standard we had the right to expect from a trip costing this much Our experience seems to be reflected in several other reviews and Wendy Wu should take note

Our recent tour to Cambodia Vietnam
Our recent tour to Cambodia Vietnam The itinerary was disappointing We should have spent more time in Cambodia less in Vietnam Our guide in Cambodia Sokhoeun Soka for short was a real asset He was fun knowledgeable with a good sense of humour he made the trip much more enjoyable and he knew their history on a personal level Vietnam however was less so particularly the inner city areas The chosen hotels where a coach ride away from the organised visits 3 - 4hours away in heavy traffic not much fun This needs to be addressed for future travelers
