As a Compass Mining customer

As a Compass Mining customer I have faced significant challenges with the prolonged relocation process of my Antminer S19 XP from the Texas 4 facility Despite an substantial investment two of my miners have been offline for a year leading to considerable financial and operational setbacks The primary task at hand was the relocation of my miners from the Texas 4 facility to a new location However this seemingly straightforward process has been marred by extensive delays and a lack of clear communication The responses to my repeated inquiries about the status of my miner were often vague providing no specific timelines or detailed updates The situation was exacerbated by inconsistent service experiences while a few of my miners where successfully redeployed others including the Antminer S19 XP remained in limbo This inconsistency highlighted operational inefficiencies within Compass Mining While I understand the challenges inherent in large-scale mining operations the fundamental issue here was the simple relocation of miners a task that should not have resulted in such extended downtime Transparency prompt communication and efficient logistical management are key to customer satisfaction especially when handling high-value equipment Recommendations for Improvement Streamlined Relocation Process Simplifying and accelerating the relocation process would significantly reduce equipment downtime Improved Communication Providing regular detailed updates on the status of equipment relocation and addressing customer queries promptly is essential Compensation for Downtime Implementing a policy to compensate customers for prolonged inactivity could help alleviate financial losses and build trust Operational Transparency Full disclosure regarding the challenges and delays in the relocation process would enhance customer understanding and patience In summary the experience with Compass Mining has been disappointing primarily due to the lengthy and poorly communicated relocation process For better customer relations it is imperative that Compass Mining focuses on improving its communication and operational efficiency especially in straightforward tasks such as equipment relocation

This is crypto world but CM under delivers

This is crypto world so I was not expecting for everything to go on rails but it came out much worse than I expected I ordered a VIP bundle last year July 2021 and was supposed to get 1 miner each month starting November 2021 in Russia at a 0 053 kWh rate Today in June I should be receiving my 7th miner but have only 2 machines hashing with a very crappy uptime 50 What happened And why is Compass responsible First miner was delayed to January then after reassuring everybody that they had a plan if anything went bad in Russia Compass totally abandoned us with our machines there I lost 3 machines Remaining machines will be deployed in other facilities in the US without a choice I got 2 one in South Carolina offline due to heat issues one in Missouri with a 50 uptime Sad because Russian facility was top notch And our contract was revised with a new hosting rate of 0 075 THs that s a 40 increase I would have given a better rating if Compass was more transparent and supportive of their customers But right now they are not I think they grew up too fast without enough operating teams boots on the ground in facilities customer support etc It s just a salesman company I would avoid hosting with them for now Go on their Discord to see how it goes

I know what a good hosting experience is like - This is not it

I have two hosting providers One provides consistent uptime clean invoicing and is responsive to service requests The other is Compass Late deployment months of lost time some machines have been moved 3 times in less than a year due to site issues Billing is consistently wrong Deadlines for example on warranty repairs are not kept The only reason Compass gets more than one star is that some of the support staff do seem to be trying hard to do their jobs I have no idea what it s like to work there but it can t be pleasant given how many unhappy clients there are While many of us have concerns that Compass is stealing hashrate from customers - given the lack of transparency it would be hard to know for sure - simple incompetence appears to be the more likely explanation Either way I m happy I only placed a small number of miners with them as a test It s been a frustrating and money-losing experience and please please do not host with them Just an update - One of my miners that is past due from being out for warranty service for over two months When I submit or follow up on support tickets all I hear back is that support has pinged our service center for an update on this unit and what it s current status is Tyler Cohoon - can you assist

Horrendous Uptime

They can t seem to just keep my ASICS hosted I have 9 ASICS in different locations and they re all down for months 2 due to a site wide outage and the rest because they can t energize the site They tell you this week over and over to close out their tickets but the support sucks and the basic hosting service is the luck of the draw I m going with a smaller company for my next hosting purchases

good luck

purchasing a miner and hosting is easy but just pray that nothing goes wrong the lucky ones may go a few months without any issues but as soon as something happens you re basically screwed contingency planning is basically non existent and don t count on any timely or useful communication your miner will be left stranded for months years and they ll just shrug

Not satisfied

Not satisfied You really need to fix your invoice system I accidentally forgot to apply my credits when paying the invoice so I tried to cancel and start it again but it says pending and there is no way to restart the payment It s October 1 and you are going to add late fees Customer support doesn t even bother to fix it in time let alone twice Also my miner has been offline for a month and you can t even tell me what happened to it

I ve been with Compass for about 18

I ve been with Compass for about 18 months While things started off good my miner has now been offline for three months with no date for redeployment I ve contacted Compass several times with little help and promises of dates that don t happen I was in Texas for my last location after my initial contract was cancelled and so I was relocated Now Texas fell through and they state I m being relocated Honestly I m doubting they have a place to put this miner and I m being strung along If you visit their site they state miners will be online in 48 hours I d be very cautious of this I asked to have my miner replaced and they said no They done nothing to help rectify the situation I d stay away from Compass and put my money else where Update 12 20 23 the initial promise to have my miner back online in a few days passed last week Now the story is some time in January Honestly this just keeps getting worse Update 12 22 2023 Now I m just getting copy and paste responses None of them address my questions or concerns None of them tell me when the miner will be back online I highly recommend staying away from this company

Good company but needs work

Team are nice and have good intent but operationally things are a nightmare There have been delays on miners firstly which was not handled in the best way by the leadership team resulting in them having to give bad news of further delays three times Now customer service literally takes days and having to chase up on social media to get a response and the query isn t even resolved then I was unable to query an invoice with the support team and had to end up paying for in BTC in the end because of a mix up in the finance team and severe delays in getting back to me Also basic functions of the user dashboard are missing such as the ability to pay using credits and records of hardware purchases which in turn increases workload on customer service as people are emailing them rather than be able to self serve To summarise lots of work to do especially by the Leadership team to turn this company into one which retail customers feel comfortable with Seems this can be achieved with better internal backend processes and by hiring more staff which I believe Compass are doing already I believe in Compass mission and want them to succeed Please take this as constructive criticism rather than an angry rant I have previously refrained from even posting this but feel that new customers ought to know what the current situation is

Asic overheating for about a month

I purchased an Antminer S19XP that came online on the expected date I didn t encounter any significant issues until about a month ago when the ASIC began to only hash at 50 capacity every day I suspect this might be due to the hot weather and inadequate ventilation at the hosting facility There could also be dust accumulation within the machine Indiana compass code 81x In my most recent support ticket they provided a very generic response mentioning that they would attempt to improve the situation However it s been a month and the ASIC has been going offline for an average of 12 hours per day To exacerbate matters Compass does not offer credits unless the issue pertains to the facility as a whole When I was considering the purchase of my ASIC I had a video call with a Compass representative However after becoming a customer every issue must be submitted through support tickets This entire situation is disheartening for me as I m a strong believer in Bitcoin mining and have a positive outlook If Compass had a more prompt and effective response to such situations I would gladly recommend their services to many of my fellow Bitcoin enthusiasts

  • Educational Resources:The website features a robust blog and resource center with articles, guides, and market analyses aimed at educating both newcomers and seasoned participants about Bitcoin mining economics and technology.

Target Audience and Value Proposition

Compass Mining caters to a broad spectrum of clients, from individual enthusiasts looking to start with a single miner to large institutions seeking to add Bitcoin mining to their treasury strategies. The primary value proposition is convenience and reduced operational risk. By managing the intricate details of infrastructure, energy procurement, and hardware maintenance, Compass allows clients to focus on the financial aspect of mining as an investment. Their service model is particularly appealing for those lacking the technical expertise, time, or capital to build and manage a private mining operation.

Geographic and Strategic Focus

The company emphasizes strategic placement of miners in regions with stable political environments, reliable infrastructure, and low-cost electricity. This focus on optimal location is critical for mining profitability. Compass Mining has publicly highlighted operations in areas like the United States and Scandinavia, aligning with the industry's broader trend toward sustainable energy and regulatory clarity.

Transparency and Industry Context

Operating in a volatile and capital-intensive sector, Compass Mining provides tools for calculating potential profitability, though it clearly communicates the associated risks, including Bitcoin price fluctuations, network difficulty changes, and operational variables.
