Some growing pains but legitimate business

I ve had a few hiccups during the startup but they ve been honest and transparent about their process This definitely seems like a company that is learning from their mistakes and will improve over time I intend to continue using Compass to host my miners

The endless waiting on Compass Mining

There s been some difficulties and delays but now my miner is up and running I m glad that Compass Mining has been willing to work with me to resolve recent problems I believe there s some room for improvement and growth in this company
K

Fairly good support but slow in deploying miners

Compass Mining is a legit company with pretty decent customer service From time to time your support requests don t get answered but I see an improvement in response time as of late However when it comes to meeting delivery time to bring units online they are very poor Many promises that they are just about to bring your miner online that later are not met Expect at least 3-6 months delays compared to promised deployment time

A Frustrating Experience

Choosing to mine with Compass has been the worst financial decision I ve ever made This company has been entirely unreliable missing nearly EVERY deadline or timeframe they ever set My units came online 2 MONTHS after the expected activation They have now been offline for the last 6 weeks I had another unit go offline 6 months ago and at this point I m convinced I ll never see it online again All I ve heard from customer service is that it s loaded on a pallet and being moved Months go by and all they have to say is yeah it s still on its way to another facility I own 5 units with Compass for a total of 504 TH s and my average hashrate for the last 5 months has been 220 TH s LESS THAN HALF OF WHAT I PURCHASED Avoid them at all costs You d be better off burning your money then at least you can keep your hands warm UPDATE The sales agent not sure what his role is who replied to this review was able to address my concerns and I now have all of my units online I ve updated my rating to reflect this and will continue to update it over the next few months if things go smoothly

Very easy to buy the ASIC and to get it

Very easy to buy the ASIC and to get it up and running and connected to my mining pool Only reason why it s not 5 star is cos I had to chase them to connect me to the mining pool causing a delay and a few days of lost revenue

Compass is very good overall but you have to put in the time to manage your miners and that is not a bad thing

I have worked with Compass for 14 months now I have similar experiences as most everyone here does If I were to write my review last year it would be 3 stars but now I would give them 4 1 2 stars always room for improvement They have improved significantly over the last year and they have taken to heart and acted upon many user issues The naming conventions for miners were always wonky and they have fixed that for the most part The Dashboard does need to be improved in regard to how they just lump all your miners together Meaning I dont want to see all my miners in the same grouping if they are in different facilities that makes no sense to me to see Texas 3 Texas 4 Oklahoma Ohio 2 within the same dropdown I would like to have facility listed as its own and then all the miners I have there This would bring a lot more clarity Yes they have changed the worker-name to reflect exact location but the dashboard can be improved I do hear though that the site and dashboard will be upgraded and improved shortly so again they do listed to comments from customers Communication is still in issue especially in regard to updates on the whole Texas relocation situation I will give you that But I work with other hosting providers besides Compass and Texas was just a nightmare for everybody this year The heat curtailment and downtime was rampant for everyone so I do understand that a lot of this is out of their control Related to downtime and credits no company is promising you 95 uptime Most companies including Compass give you credits for downtime less than 95 I go over my invoice every month and look at my revenue per miner and I calculate downtime as best I can and I honestly think Compass has compensated and credited me adequately for downtime Regarding support I like many have had issues with support requests Last year it took too long for sure This year I have received support responses almost always in 48 hours or less Now this is the big thing I can advise if your support request does not answer your question or you have more complex questions or if you have many many questions don t waste your time doing support requests Set up a call with your sales rep My rep is John Degnan and he has proved to be a wealth of knowledge and tremendous support for me I am sure it works the same with all their reps but he will give you access to his online calendar and you just schedule a call with him whenever you want Normally they are 1 2 hour blocks but if you need more time he will make the time for you He even advised me to set up regular calls The 1 thing he has taught me is that we need to treat our mining operation as a business whether you have 1 miner or a 100 And Compass does do a lot of the work for us but not all of it and they will never care about or be on top of your miner situation as much as you are That s the way it is So keep track of your miners like you are managing a portfolio And when support is not understanding my question or problem or they are not helpful I know I can just contact John and we can hash it out and invariably he cuts to the chase and solves my problem Mining is complex Emailing and submitting requests is good for simple or quick questions but if you have lots to discuss you owe it to yourself and your mining business to contact your rep and get resolution I would say any hosting operation is going to have their pros and cons None of them are perfect The main thing you have to decide is if your hosting company is willing to take feedback and do the right thing for you nine times out of ten I honestly feel Compass is doing great in this respect

Compass Mining: An Overview

Compass Mining operates as a prominent marketplace and service provider in the Bitcoin mining industry, designed to lower the barriers to entry for individuals and institutions. Its core mission is to make Bitcoin mining accessible, simple, and efficient by removing the traditional complexities associated with sourcing hardware, finding reliable and affordable energy, and managing daily operations. The company functions as a bridge connecting retail and corporate investors with professionally managed mining facilities across the globe.

Core Services and Business Model

The platform primarily offers a turnkey solution for Bitcoin mining. Customers can purchase or host mining hardware through Compass Mining, which then deploys and maintains the machines in partnered data centers. This model provides several key services:

  • Hardware Marketplace:Users can browse and purchase a variety of ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) miners from leading manufacturers. The company often facilitates bulk purchasing, which can provide cost advantages.
  • Hosting Solutions:Compass secures contracts with mining facilities worldwide, offering customers geographic diversification and access to competitive, often renewable, energy sources. They handle the logistics, setup, and ongoing maintenance of the hardware.
  • Mining Management:Once deployed, the company’s platform allows users to monitor their miners' performance, uptime, and Bitcoin earnings in near real-time, providing transparency and control.
  • Educational Resources:The website features a robust blog and resource center with articles, guides, and market analyses aimed at educating both newcomers and seasoned participants about Bitcoin mining economics and technology.

Target Audience and Value Proposition

Compass Mining caters to a broad spectrum of clients, from individual enthusiasts looking to start with a single miner to large institutions seeking to add Bitcoin mining to their treasury strategies. The primary value proposition is convenience and reduced operational risk. By managing the intricate details of infrastructure, energy procurement, and hardware maintenance, Compass allows clients to focus on the financial aspect of mining as an investment. Their service model is particularly appealing for those lacking the technical expertise, time, or capital to build and manage a private mining operation.

Geographic and Strategic Focus

The company emphasizes strategic placement of miners in regions with stable political environments, reliable infrastructure, and low-cost electricity. This focus on optimal location is critical for mining profitability. Compass Mining has publicly highlighted operations in areas like the United States and Scandinavia, aligning with the industry's broader trend toward sustainable energy and regulatory clarity.

Transparency and Industry Context

Operating in a volatile and capital-intensive sector, Compass Mining provides tools for calculating potential profitability, though it clearly communicates the associated risks, including Bitcoin price fluctuations, network difficulty changes, and operational variables. The company positions itself within the larger narrative of strengthening the Bitcoin network by promoting decentralized and professionally managed hash rate distribution.

In summary, Compass Mining serves as a comprehensive facilitator in the Bitcoin mining ecosystem. It democratizes access to mining rewards by offering an integrated platform for purchasing hardware, securing hosting, and gaining operational insights, thereby enabling a wider audience to participate in securing the Bitcoin network and potentially earning rewards through a streamlined, managed service approach.
