My Two Cents

The online go-at-your-own-pace program was exactly what I needed The degree program Computer Science could be more involved even if that means being harder More practical exams would have been nice as practical assignments can be used to build a portfolio

I had a mixed experience with WGU

I had a mixed experience with WGU It was both a positive and negative time One positive about the program is that it is self-paced You are able to work through the program at a speed that fits your current schedule and life needs One negative about this University is that there were many staff members that struggled with communication One staff members lack of communication hade a huge negative impact on me personally and financially There are varied staff experiences you will have depending on who your program mentor is and who your instructors are

WGU - Leave me alone

The constant contact is irritating This is an online school No one is going to make it part of their identity it s not a central part of my life I d like to just get classes done and not be bothered every freaking day with emails about joining women in tech and letters from scammy honor organizations

My mentor was awesome she really

My mentor was awesome she really followed up and made sure I was on task and not falling behind I do not like the way some classes are structured Its hard to find information needed for success unless you reach out directly to the instructor If you dont then you may spend unnecessary time in areas that are not relevant to the course objectives

I liked being able to accelerate

I liked being able to accelerate quickly through classes but think that the final preceptorship could be improved It took months to get something set up and was always waiting on wgu to send the information to the facility It ended up getting delayed by more than a month that I was able to opt for an MCA since I was denied 3 facilities while waiting for approval for my current facility Its just convoluted and frustrating There definitely is not enough staff in clinical placement to get it all done in time The instructors were good for the most part but it was evident that they also had so many students in their classes that it was difficult for them to keep up Sometimes I would get conflicting information that made it difficult wanting to go back to the instructors

I was disappointed in the changes to the program and the school itself

I was disappointed in the changes to the program AFTER registration and program started There were some small things that were annoying but the main problem was NO HELP for finding clinical shadow sites leaving students with NO guidance or help at all Very unprofessional and disorganized Due to this - I will NOT recommend WGU to anyone and I will NOT be pursuing a further degree at WGU As well the massive layoffs left NO REGARD for any students and their needs
B

WGU does not provide support for their students

The ability to go at my own pace was wonderful When it came to courses with shadowing experience needed WGU did not have the resources to get things approved in a timely manner Causing me both time and money by sending me into a new semester to finish

A decent online college experience

I liked how everything was laid out to help with my progress in school The assistance with completing my capstone was very helpful However it felt like course instructors were barely interested in me or my progress I had courses where the instructor never reached out with a welcome email and never checked on me during the several weeks I was completing their course The only email I received was a generic congratulations when I finally completed it

Challenging program Great advisor support

My advisor was great There were a few great instructors that held some very useful webinars and would respond in a timely manner to an emailed question or request for assistance With other instructors a student is pretty much on their own to find web resources to figure things out Course materials for most courses are lacking alignment extremely vague or just plain missing some of content on which a student has to demonstrate understanding To persevere in the program a student must be confident and experienced in finding alternative credible resources and determined to trouble shooting issues on their own A little stubbornness helps

WGU did not provide me enough support

EDIT I was able to resolve my issue and I believe a lot of people at the school genuinely want to help Shout out to Dr Green at the ombuds team they were able to waive my fees I am bumping up my review from one to 3 stars However I am keeping my review at 3 stars because of how hard it was to resolve my issue Original WGU did not provide me enough support during my time student teaching I attempted to change my Dt start date and the field experience team was impossible to reach and unhelpful there were many aspect of the experience that were not communicated well to me and I had to spend thousands of dollars for another term I had everything completed but I needed one more day for field experience and instead of finding a reasonable way to fix that I of course had to give them more money for another term I was not happy with their support or the staff and I would not recommend this school if you want to be treated fairly
