Must thrive on independent learning

WGU is a great university I would have preferred more of a lecture professor driven interactive experience Since everyone starts at a different time I understand how difficult it would be to interact with students Maybe have more cohorts or taped lectures by professors that students can access then be able to reach out to professors with questions

The first part of my program was fantastic Once I entered demonstration teaching the wheels fell off My clinical supervisor quit and they did not notify me I had to call and email many times to try to get a replacement despite that being their job The new clinical supervisor messed up the paperwork on my final and it pushed back my graduation Then my demonstration teaching class went into a new term by 12 days and I had to pay for a new term in order to graduate Overall the experience was okay until the end when it was very much not

Great school but worst financial aid department

WGU has been the best choice I have made for my Bachelor s and Master s degree The Mentors and course instructors are better than any on-site instructors I have had exposure to at other institutions I only would say their financial aid department can be better It takes them 3-4 months to get financial aid award letter despite submitting everything on time They do NOT understand that the award letter is essential to make financial decisions for the student and was not helpful when I reached out

Got my BSN and I ll stop there with WGU

The 3 stars are for my mentor and course instructors who were helpful and supportive throughout the program The 2 missing stars are for those who evaluated my papers I often received them back for correction and sometimes I felt I had covered what they said was missing I also had them tell me things were wrong after I was already competent and I was told they should not have done that by my mentor I worked many hours on those papers and felt the reviewers are looking for the smallest thing to not pass you

Learned some stuff but not horribly impressed

Not as well organized as I would have liked Some of the e textbooks used were not easy to navigate Mentors are lovely people but not needed - bit of a nuisance A few instructors actually seemed interested in my progress - others just used boiler-plate emails some emails contained grammar and spelling errors Decent value to gain a degree not sure how esteemed it will be in the workplace

If you have no experience in the

If you have no experience in the education field WGU is a great option for attaining your teaching degree If you do have experience in the education field WGU is completely dismissive of that experience and frequently like to use terms like When you get your on classroom or When you are in a classroom They are especially not a great match if you have an active job with your own classroom

Work on it

I really like the school but there s a lot of things that still aren t really organized and I have several mentors and then they would leave and then I would be left in the dust for a couple of weeks when I really needed help I think that the school has a lot that they need to work on

Master s degree in Middle School

Master s degree in Middle School mathematics My experience at WGU was fantastic until it was time to do my observations and actual student teaching I dealt with utter incompetence when dealing with trying to schedule my observation hours My placement coordinator would not return phone calls or emails My mentor was the one who actually got things handled When it was time to do my student teaching again I was dealing with incompetence They did nothing for a month and I was in danger of running out of time to complete my student teaching hours I would have needed to wait until Sept to complete my teaching I was ready to do my student teaching Feb 1 but didn t get the go ahead until Feb 28 This experience was so frustrating and sadly not unique to me I have spoken with many WGU students preparing to do their student teaching who have encountered the same experience I will not recommend WGU until they rectify the problems in their placement department
