Not able to service

Installed 2 new A O Smith 30 gallon electric hot water heaters a couple months ago A few weeks after install the hot water started smelling like rotten eggs Researched a solution to change anode from magnesium to aluminum I could not remove the anode because it is so tight Tried a 3 pipe on my ratchet and an impact wrench I will not be buying this brand again

Absolute garbage

We had flooding in our area last week and it supposedly ruined this 1 year old water heater It cost 300 just to have the plumber tell us that the entire unit needed to be replaced It replaced a 20 year old water heater that took a beating over the years before it actually died This lemon cost us 2 000 please don t purchase one of these pieces of junk

Be advised before you purchase an A O Smith hot water heater Our 1000 A O Smith GCRL 40 400 residential hot water heater failed just 14 months outside of the 6 year warranty period The leaking heater tank trickled 120 gallons of water to our basement floor before it was discovered Speaking with a ground level customer service and a manager each stated A O Smith would offer no relief in the matter repeatedly stating we abide by our warranty period and there s nothing we can do A O Smith is not the premium reliable durable goods appliance manufacturer to spend your money on in our experience because their product failed far prior to a reasonable life expectancy and they offered zero empathy consideration or flexibility toward offering any type of relief or support in our case

ORDERED 2 WIFI ELECTRIC WATER HEATERS AND 1 OF THEM SHOWED UP BENT AND SETTING A FAILURE CODE I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET IT FIXED FOR 2 MONTHS EITHER THEY FORGET TO ORDER AND SEND ME PARTS OR THIS TIME THE SERVICE THEY ASK ME TO USE DOESN T SHOW BACK UP AND LUCKILY HE TOLD ME WHAT WAS WRONG SO I CALLED AO SMITH TO TRY AND GET IT FIXED OR JUST GET THE PART MYSELF AND IT S IN STOCK THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME FOR SHIPPING ON A WARRANTY PART ON A HEATER THAT S ONLY 3 MOS OLD CRAZEEEE SERVICE OR LACK OF SERVICE I SHOULD SAY

Water heater is less than 3 months old

Water heater is less than 3 months old and it will not let the hot water be of any temperature other than ULTRA HOT Called AO Smith and they will cover up to 100 dollars for a plumber to come out to replace the control We paid over 750 dollars for this piece of crap and apparently it is only worth 100 dollars The people I spoke with were very nice but could not do anything for us except say do you want to speak to a supervisor DO NOT BUY ANYTHING THIS COMPANY SELLS OR MAKES As far as sending this to AO Smith they just don t give a about either their reputation or the customer Hope what happened to Bud Light happens to AO Smith

5 time leaker

Just recently took back my 5th water heater made by A O Smith all covered under warranty These water heaters leak out of the box For awhile I thought I was doing something wrong I even went out and bought one of the companies water softeners Not the case With my last bad heater AO Smith even was trying to back out of their own warranty Still got my full refund and will be sharing this experience with my attorney generals office

On my 3rd AO Smith heat pump water

On my 3rd AO Smith heat pump water heater in 3 years Very Discouraging I m not sure what is going on in there factory but these heat pump water heaters are junk and this will be my last one I ve been told that several heat pump water heaters made by AO Smith and installed in my area are having similar issues This is happening in the state of Maine The unit keeps throwing an error code or the compressor is faulty The anode rods are also part of their failure My hot water smells like rotten eggs never have I smelled that only since the heat pump was installed They just dissolve inside of the tank what a mess When I drained the tank to remove from my basement the liquid that came out of the bottom reminds me of gray wall paper paste Would not Recommend

ABSURD amount of info for a part number

I called the technical assistance number listed in the manual I asked to get a part NUMBER for the anode rod on a water heater They required I provide them with name address phone number location in the house of the water heater serial number model number and who installed it This amount of information is ABSURD to get a part number for a non warranty part Anode rod can be bought at a local hardware store After multiple conversations I was told it was due to gas regulations Not true I called a supply distributor and ordered the part before even being asked my name Ao smith kept referring me by a name I stopped using get this 33 YEARS ago When asked where they got the name they refused No need to wonder how my identity was hacked
