Faulty car and dodgy practice re excess charges
Nearly all car rental companies come out badly on these kinds of reviews so you end up going on your own experience I d rented from Avis in England a few months ago so I went with them though they are long way from the cheapest On the good side I did get the model I d actually booked this is not common the staff were polite though there was some messing about with who dealt with Avis and who with Budget So far so minor and happily it wasn t very busy so I didn t have much of a wait Returning the car was more hasslesome involving some pretty unnecessary queueing just so an agent could tell me all the paperwork was completed The key problems were a the car was malfunctioning - a problem with the drive train which made the car judder under load This didn t show up in the kind of slow driving you do when in unfamiliar situations and I first thought it was road surface I had to get to Monaghan and didn t have time to get the car replaced so did the 300 km round trip wondering if I would make it backb they actively disabled the in-built satnav so they could attempt to charge me extra for it Outrageous gouging IMO given the car came with itc charging the whole 2000 euro excess to my card at time of rental This is just another way of pressuring you into taking their overpriced extra insurance--------Just responding to the Avis comment though I m not sure why I m bothering I don t see much point in providing you more detail about the car and the rental agreement This just gives me work to do with no benefit to me You should have better quality control methods which prevent faulty cars being provided to new renters I don t remember seeing the proposition that you would charge the whole of the excess to my credit card at the beginning of the rental though no doubt it was there somewhere in the documentation My complaint is that you were doing it AT ALL This means that you already have my money and I have to fight to get it back from you Totally unreasonable transfer of liability in my opinion I note that you don t comment on your trick of disabling the supplied sat nav feature so you can unreasonably try to charge me to put it back again
