12v Electric course

I have just finished a 2 day course I have a relatively new boat with modern equipment and wanted to come away with practical skills and knowledge The standard of handouts was poor and the teaching style haphazard and unfocused without a clear syllabus The trainer is only familiar with older simple systems NEMA networks were not covered and for example he had never heard of a combined tank and electric display such as a phillipi or simarine poco I can now look for and find faulty equipment and short circuits and rewire faults but that s about it If you have a boat built in the past 15 years or so this is not the course for you

Outboard Engine Servicing Course

I was expecting the course to cover basic outboard engine servicing Unfortunately a lot of the morning was taken up covering stripping down and fault finding in carburettors - something more akin to what a marine engineer would be expected to do The afternoon session was much more relevant and covered what I was expecting within an engine service e g oil spark plug replacement filter changes accessing and replacing water pumps general fault finding winterisation etc The training workshop could have been heated better It was very cold and it became difficult to handle tools and small components due to cold hands Toilet facilities need attention There were several courses running on the day I attended and only one toilet available

Valuable course but too many delegates

Great course content and very knowledgeable instructors Overall the course was valuable however lots of delegates on this course so the whole day was quite rushed especially the pool session

RYA radar course rather out of date

Good tuition and a well organised event however the radar simulator apparently the only one approved by the RYA is out of date and has not kept up with modern radar interfaces The tutor made the best of the limitations of this to explain basic principles but an up-to-date simulator is needed I would have valued a bit more time spent illustrating potential misinterpretations of radar information
A

Engaging teacher

Engaging teacher very willing to answer real life situation questions Good course giving good foundation knowledge on splicing to then practice further
