It s ok Has a lot of glitches and doesn t really work very well A lot of manual reconciling if you are a heavy trader so be prepared to do a lot of hours if you are like me nd doing it for the first time It has potential Doesn t recognise transactions out of your account for Australian platforms swift coinspot and they say they are Australian but all help service seem to be overseas as their response is alway around midnight so responses take 24 hours

Have to start with saying that the attitude vibe and speed in terms of customer support is top-notch and absolutely delightful I interacted with a couple of customer support officers and they were understanding patient and open to feedback Unfortunately I just couldn t use CTC this time around due to all the technical glitches I was experiencing For one there were API integration issues which were fairly quickly resolved in the end But what really put me off was the fact that even with the API syncing nicely the readings were all over the place According to CTC I am holding DOUBLE the amount of crypto on an exchange than I do in reality For a system that is supposed to provide accurate tax information this is a massive red flag which I found too risky to continue with I do hope this is resolved by next year so I can finally use CTC to its fullest potential For now I had to go with a competitor which I found simpler to use and it was able to reconcile more transactions than CTC

An absolutely indispensable tool So much support for different chains including L2s Is it quick and easy to use No But I don t think any other tool out there right now could do it all for you Don t think you ll plug your wallets in and that s that Well at least if you ve got even moderately complicated transaction history Think of this as a set of tools to sift through the degen stuff you ve done It is unfathomably easier than if you sat down with etherscan and an Excel spreadsheet Not least of all because if you re working out capital gains there s all sorts of weird arcane and situation specific calculations you d need to be a trained accountant to do I had lots of weird questions because I d done lots of weird things on-chain CTC s website has lots of really helpful and specific articles with information for different tax jurisdictions Like how is a token airdrop you received because you held an NFT taxed in the UK For questions CTC s website couldn t answer the support was phenomenal shoutout to Maria Very quick to respond even though I had been an idiot and left this all the week before my tax return was due This was also before I had even paid the subscription fee which you need to do to be able to download the reports you ll need to submit your taxes but you can otherwise access the whole system for free The only things stopping me from giving 5-stars are that the website can be quite laggy This seems to be due to it having to refresh your whole report I had 1000 transactions whenever you change anything which is fair enough But it would have taken about 40 less time to do my taxes if the website had been snappier It also lags when opening random menus Maybe my internet is a factor Also I would have liked to have had more freedom in categorising transactions For example you can t choose a Buy and a Sell transaction and then categorise them as a Trade yourself the system can only do that automatically for you It s quite good at detecting these but not always And then inversely when it auto detects what it thinks is a Trade but it s not you have no way of breaking up those transactions so you re forced to hide it and put both sides in manually yourself Annoying to do Compounded by the system being a bit laggy Also I would have liked more freedom in what currency you input for transactions For example sometimes I would have to go away and find price data for a crypto My taxes need to be done in GBP so that s what CTC defaults to But most crypto price data out there is USD With all its automated price detection which catches most things it obviously has the capability of converting USD to GBP at any given date but when clarifying some transactions I would often have to find the price of the crypto at a certain datetime fair enough CTC has some gaps on really esoteric or adhoc cryptos not mad about that but then I would also have to go convert from USD to GBP myself just to be able to put it into CTC If I could put in USD that would be way easier Similar problem sometimes when you re editing a transaction and you want to add a gas fee or something In some instances it will again only let you use your main currency of accounting So then I m say working out what some gas fee denominated in crypto is in GBP it gets a bit annoying and convoluted My main gripes here just relate to them making better use of capabilities that the system makes wide use of under the hood It would also be nice if the Portfolio viewer was a bit more fleshed out Like I d like to be able to view more information on individual assets what I hold their prices the history of my position etc This isn t the main thing they re going for but now this is the most complete single view of my portfolio and the one I ll want to keep the most up to date to keep my taxes accurate so it d be nice if it became my go to for checking my portfolio day to day but that feature isn t quite there yet Other than that about as good of an experience as I could hope I came into this knowing next to nothing Was it painful Yes It s a chore But I played with Koinly a bit before this struggled then tried CTC and got on much better It was especially better with all sorts of weird DeFi things

Best part of the experience is the exceptional customer service The system also does appear to be giving more accurate data compared to when i first started but I do wish it was fully automated

Crypto Tax Calculator was recommended by my accountant and really helped to make my tax return for Crypto pretty straight forward For my son s return of over 100 transactions it had a few issues resolving his bonus currency but overall it was a great tool to simplify the tax return Would recommend using it
