AVOID AT ALL COSTS follw up from my previous review
Approx 2 weeks ago I left a review to avoid Meindl Boots The last 14 reviews on here have the same complaints letting in water and the sole coming adrift I sent my boots back to Bramwell at Milnthorpe withy details attached I then had an e-mail to fill-in a form and return which I did I then had another e-mail saying send the boots back and attach a copy of the form I e-mailed back and said they already had the boots One hand up there does not know what the other is doing I then had the boots sent back saying they would do nothing as I had not looked after them and even if they had still been under guarantee they would have done nothing How do they know what they were like whilst still under the 1 year guarantee I totally disagree with what they said I had walked in them until April May this year on flat good paths with my old 13yrs dog for probably no more than 30 mins a day Mud if ever had been washed off and they had been thoroughly cleaned and waterproofed once a week since then I have been doing more walking in them but no more than 1 hour a day with a young dog They obviously have a major problem which they are refusing to accept Avoid at all costs there are plenty of other good boots on the market Look at what which magazine have to say eg Grisport

Failed Caribe GTX 2 men s shoes
Bought men s Caribe GTX 2 years ago Moderate use of shoes for commuting which obviously has not been happening that much Laces frayed and snapped within one year Bought replacement laces but now the lace retention strap has snapped too rendering one shoe completely unusable Very expensive poor quality shoes - do not buy Will revert to Merrells which seemed to last years with no issues

Walking boots Carpet slippers
Grado GTX Soles wore through after 7 months irregular use imho you d be lucky to get 500 miles out of these boots which would work out at around 37p a mile cheaper to fly in an aeroplane Sent an email to the company asking if the boots were designed to last 7 months got no reply retailer says it s normal wear and tear Maybe normal for carpet slippers

Planned obsolescence
Like so many others my boots failed quickly due to the soles falling apart which in turn is due to hydrolysis It s planned obsolescence totally deliberate to get you to shell out again for another pair Sometimes an innovation is actually a scam I will not be buying this brand again

I bought waterproof Meindl walking
I bought waterproof Meindl walking boots last September they were extremely comfortable and light weight on my 6 day hike in April with no rain in Nepal Last week I got caught in the rain in the Dolomites and my feet and socks were soaked through This has never happened with Salewa Salomon and Hanwag So disappointed They are the same price as these other brands but completely useless Will not be buying this brand again utter waste of money

Planned obsolescence
These boots are now designed to fail within 2-3 years The sole starts to crumble away Meindl call it hydrolysis and blame the boot owners for not using the boots often enough or for getting them wet Its absolute nonsense Its planned obsolescence Steer well clear Look elsewhere

Seems to be a very common theme here
Seems to be a very common theme here The sole of both boots disintegrated after 30-40 miles use Meindl claim it s due to lack of use or exposure to chemicals Mine haven t been exposed to chemicals so it must be lack of use Since when can a manufacturer say it s normal for something to fall apart from NOT using it Utter crap Please do not buy
