Worst agency we have worked with among several up and down the UK There is little interest shown by anyone from Manager or reps and no continuity with anybody No use of mobile phones so only messages can be left and return calls are few and far between Success rate has been nil so moving to another agency

Avoid at all costs -
I am a private landlord and Romans provided their tenant finding service Vetting etc and full management service When the tenant absconded and breached their 12 month tenancy agreement Romans could not have been less helpful The quality of service has been pitiful Do not use Romans to let and manage your property They are unreliable and dishonest Their handling of my claim for the deposit monies for unpaid rent and damage to my property has simply been ignored for 3 months They have provided inaccurate information to the utility companies and local authority leaving me being chased for payments for which I am not liable I now have a world of pain trying unravel all of the erroneous account details they have left me to sort out myself They have no system for receiving the photographic and video evidence required for my claim to the deposit scheme adjudicator They offer tenants a no deposit option which means Romans pick up the cost of any deposit money that has to be paid to the landlord and yet Romans are the ones who are solely able to make the case for my claim to the adjudicator Massive conflict of interest I cannot stress enough how incompetent these people are Avoid at all costs

Hidden fees Lies and Unnecessary Complications
They consistently lied about the property and when we pushed back they patronised us for wanting more information The agents will either call you 5 times a day or be unreachable for a day or two at a time and will never follow up with emails for the paper trail They also had hidden fees and tried pressuring us to pay 80 for them to take the property off the market I ve never heard of this being done at other agencies They never arranged the key exchange so the sellers had to leave the keys with the neighbours who we had never met prior to getting the keys They made this process unnecessarily difficult and if I could I would have gone with any other estate agency

Our experience was horrible
Our experience was horrible This was not because the buying process failed which was frustrating The company seemed to deliberately drag the process over several months completing inquiries a few days before the expiration of the initial mortgage offer The company managed both the letting and the buying side so they were possibly not bothered by getting the sales done After we received our mortgage offer from the bank it took almost a month to get someone at the office to chase the owner for a sales contract Took about 6 weeks for the sales contract to come through and about 2 months for routine inquiries to be completed We had inquiry questions such as provide the location of the following mains electricitymains gasmains water Outstanding for almost 2 months even when Romans managed the letting side and could be expected to easily provide this Having to chase and call the estate agent almost every other day and sometimes not getting a response was a very mentally draining process

Not interested in your needs
Not interested in your needs I felt pressured to accept a lower price than they themselves recommended The move manager spent months trying to stop me remarketing the house They want their commission not interested in sellers circumstances or needs

Please stay away from them
Please stay away from them I am a tenant At first I was OK with the fact that they offer no real service No information about the house s utilities Only an exhausting time-consuming induction process When the tenancy started I kept receiving messages that I needed to pay the rent on time to avoid consequences The payment was taking place automatically via a Bank standing order created by an associate of theirs Months of harassment and they never admitted their wrongdoing Today they sent someone to enter my property to check for a leak They didn t have my consent 2 days notice and they come into your home uninvited If you like being bullied and having people paying visits when you are not present rent a home from Romans

Zero stars to be clear
Zero stars to be clear Basingstoke branch didn t leave us impressed at all Handful of viewings with little feedback no click through stats despite being told wed receive them Sent numerous correspondence which was ignored but they blamed each other You deal with a branch manager for 5 minutes then a lot of inexperienced staff who I doubt have ever bought a house

I was in the process of purchasing a property through Romans Estate Agents in Reading My offer was accepted and I had already begun the paperwork on my end including paying over 700 in legal fees However just before Christmas I received a call from Michael Page the manager at the Reading office informing me that the seller might accept a higher offer I was shocked as my offer had been accepted and the paperwork was already underway I was gazumped Mike then tried to get me to increase my offer which left me feeling manipulated and no choice but to increase my offer having had paid legal fees When I questioned why viewings were still being conducted for a property that was supposedly off the market I was given vague unsatisfactory responses I had used their recommended mortgage advisor and solicitor so they could get the max commission from the sale If you re considering dealing with the Romans Reading office I would strongly advise caution Based on my experience I would recommend that once your offer is accepted you request a memorandum of sale and have a written agreement in place This agreement could state that if either party pulls out the other is responsible for covering the legal fees That way you can avoid the frustration I ve faced after having already paid initial legal fees and loosing out
