Once worth it but not now and beware the expensive buy out on the contract

Once worth it but not anymore and beware their auto renew I joined Artsy with a gallery at the beginning And at that time it felt like a breath of fresh air and a really useful tool for galleries It was sold to me as a way of helping collectors find the galleries that would best support their tastes and it felt like a real partnership between Artsy the gallery and the collectors I stayed for two years and it would have been longer but I closed that gallery During that time I only sold enough work through the site to pay for the subscription but not make a profit on the investment The coverage and profile I got made it feel worth it A couple of years ago I opened a new gallery and joined artsy again I was surprised that they had got rid of the selection process and how many galleries were on it It appears their focus is online domination of the visual arts in the same way Uber has taken over the taxi business Gone is the sense of them supporting your business and there are so many galleries it is hard to get noticed It is labor intensive if you want to get anything productive out of it - as labor intensive as running your own website and inventory system - so you are in fact having to do everything twice If you don t have a website that supports an inventory system or you are so big that the subscription and staff time uploading and documenting exhibits is considered no big deal it might be worth it but it no longer made financial sense to me Which brings me to a word of warning They have an automatic renewal on the contract which means you can only get out of the contract at exactly the right time you can t miss it by a day or you head right into another year-long agreement and an expensive buy out

Bought a piece - not great

Bought a piece which I subsequently asked to resell on the site - only months later - due to a change in circumstances not having space for it any longer i was told they wouldn t allow me to do this and have not provided a clear reason as to why - seem useless to me as a market aggregator and I won t use them again - will instead rely on more trusted web platforms or buy direct from galleries Very poor customer service t cs I also had issues when I had an item delivered to me ease of use seem to be lacking the volume to make what could be a good idea work

Purchase My offer and payment was accepted October 30th By Nov 9th I have not been able to secure any acknowledgement from the gallery or notice of delivery

EDIT Artsy have since apologised explained the situation and offered helpful alternatives I do appreciate the accountability they have shown I was approached by Artsy via email asking if I was interested in selling a Banksy print I own a print I originally looked into selling last year but decided to keep After sending an email and a follow up email three days later I finally received a reply saying that the lady who got in touch with me spoke to her team and they cannot sell the print Not sure why I was even approached in the first place and confused why the print wasn t reviewed properly the first time around Selling this print would mean life changing money for me I m not really sure the people at Artsy understand that aspect of art work selling

Great site Just needs tweaking

I really like the site It would be helpful to have sold items removed and to have prices or price ranges That would enable us to gauge if we want to make inquiries or not

I bought a limited edition print that was supposed to be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity Didn t receive it with the print but after inquiring received a PDF of certificate quicklyi

In general it has been a good experience only that at the sales level it has been very low in two years I have sold only two works
