The system dropped out on Sunday 3rd April and I am still unable to connect to App Have created a Ticket on Wednesday but still have only had a reply saying they were busy and not to contact them again or I would go to end of queue This is becoming a regular occurrence now When the system works it is great but unfortunately their support system is failing

Warning wireless connectivity will cost you an extra 199
We had an Immersun fitted recently It appears to work well so I ve no complaints about its basic functionality But there s a serious caveat If you want to make use of the Immersun app to control the main unit remotely that will cost you an extra 199 No that s not a typo - 199 to connect your Immersun wirelessly Seriously In 2022 199 for a glorified WiFi repeater - which connects to the Immersun wirelessly What a rip-off

Two failed units in a year possible fire risk
I ve had two Immersun 2 in 12 months The first indicated a fault after 6 weeks Customer support insisted that I had a faulty immersion heater I had to employ a plumber to drain and change the immersion at a cost of over 200 The Immersun still said there was a fault money wasted The installer electrian came to check the Immersun but again Immersun customer service still refused to accept the unit was faulty Numerous checks carried out then their customer service agreed it may be faulty after all But they wanted the old unit back before they would send out a new unit I was using their own approved installer so after protests that this would delay repairs they finally agreed to supply a new unit Received installed and worked Now a year later ar 5 40 am we were woken by our fire alarm Rushed onto landing full of smoke White smoke coming from Immersun unit which was on boost Power off and cover removed to find a connection had melted and the unit was very hot Don t know the cause may be a fan failure Raised a ticket with Immersun their support procedure requesting help and guidance as the unit was still under extended guarantee Acknowledged but no promised telephone call I employ an electrician to bypass the defunct unit so I can operate the immersion manually Another bill because of Immersun Still waiting for help from Immersun but the installer has agreed to supply another unit from another company at trade and fit for free That means over the last year a Immersun has cost me about 750 and I m still faced with another bill for another unit Take me about 10 years to recover that cost It s a good product when it is working but is unreliable The customer service and after sales support is dreadful I ve lost all faith in Immersun and am now worried that these units are a fire risk Luckily our smoke alarm was only a few feet away from the unit but if it had been elsewhere the whole place could have gone up Just checked my ticket status and find that Immersun has closed it No telephone call no e mail no explanation nothing So Immersun are refusing to deal with the failed unit under warranty Says it all about this company I have since received an apology from the new team at Immersun The unit has been updated improved and relaunched The terminal that overheated has been redesigned I have been assured that the new team is fully committed to providing an outstanding product and customer experience This is a British made product that has enormous potential both in the UK and for the export market I have had a solar diverter for about six years and it really is a great idea Why export surplus power when you can use it yourself

Unit blew up
Waited over a week for replacement unit On arrival found to be missing antenna and fuse units so still not having the ability to use the solar power system I have also been informed that although my original warranty finishes at the end of September this year and Immersun have had to replace the unit as it blew up I am not entitled to a new 1 year warranty for the new unit

It will take longer than you think for payback
On the face of it free hot water is a bonus no matter how much or little The description of the system suggests that you might get all or most water heating through the diverted Here s the thing Showers and baths tend to happen in the evening or early morning but the sun is NOT shining especially in Winter So there s a real tricky balance to strike between the setting of the thermostat for this system and the thermostat used by your heating gas So far in 3 months I have saved 8 with a best day of 0 32p It will get much better in the spring and summer but don t expect free hot water It s going to take about 5 years to pay back and I expect a failure of some component before this time fan I m pleased I installed this as it does feel that I m getting something for nothing but I would have felt better if I d only paid 200 or so One other slight issue is that once this system is installed it s tricky to revert back The server was not always available so couldn t use the boost function I would say it s ok

Eventually fixed
Having worked well for a few months a power outage has stopped the unit working at all I asked for help 2 weeks ago and got one of their fabled tickets Nothing has happened I think 2 weeks of lost use is sufficient to be unhappy The after sales service is non existent So I pay Immersun 500 it works for 6 months goes wrong and they ignore you There is no way to contact anyone PLEASE DO SOMETHING IMMERSUN UPDATE This was a one star and now upgraded to a 3 star because a couple of days after this Trustpilot post I was contacted and they provided the fix to get the system working again so thank you Immersun But you really need to speed up customer service and make people feel they are being listened to and not ignored

Easy fit replacement
Fitting this to replace a previous model was easy Following the instructions was also easy and it works well with the screen giving you information of its operations The wireless add on has been a little temperamental but that now works so you can track use on your phone If there are no problems i will presume it will pay for itself over a 4 years

Email difficulties
Immersun s computer system prevented their being able to contact me via my Hotmail email account but I was phoned a few days later and it was explained how my older unit would have to be disconnected and sent in for investigation As I feel unqualified to do this myself I have contacted my installers but their travel expenses are costly costly and I am pursuing local help to disconnect It s a pity that there is not currently a phone number so that the plumber who installed the immersion heater connected to the Immersun might discuss matters direct with them on the spot to avoid too many people having to come into my home during the pandemic

Is the Immersun controller now am even better unit
I have been using an Immersun controller for about 4 years During this time the original company that sold it went into liquidation though I do not know the precise details about that The company now selling this excellent and well thought through controller that allows you to divert solar generation to three different energy storage units seems to have improved the one weak aspect of the original unit the output cable connection point The new controller has a screw down type terminal connection that appears to be more robust instead of the earlier low grade plug in connectors For me I divert power to 2 water heaters and a single storage radiator I have two solar panel arrays with a total output of about 7 4 kW on a good day but angled to provide generation from 4 a m to 9 30 p m in the summer Because the local power supply network will only allow 16 amps to go back down the supply cables to them I had to find a way to keep generating the power I could to maximise my investment Being an electrical engineer I have fashioned another two loads to put heat energy in but their selection in done manually though I plan to make that into a time switched circuit later this spring As that is in tandem with with Immersun the whole installation works well Next is to look at a decent level 20 kWHrs of electrical power storage Over the 4 years I have seen 3 Immersun controllers suffer output terminal degradation The termination points in the equipment for your load connections was a weak part of the original design These would eventually cause hot-spots on the controller motherboard and a fire was the usual outcome I was able to design a different termination arrangement which avoided this hotspot issue The recent failure I had came down to a part of the controller locking the system out due a component failure I believe this can be fixed but I decided to replace the unit with one of the newer type This is working excellently at the moment For a product costing 500 this is a large sum for many householders If you buy other household equipment many now sell such with addition insurance to cover the eventuality of a possible early failure If it was available I would certainly entertain this for the Immersun controller In the meantime I hope the termination improvement does solve the issue of the earlier controllers Time will tell
