Brilliant insurer shame I cannot stay with them

From the start I would say that pet plan are one of the best if not the best pet insurance I have 10 adopted cats and all are insured and a year ago I had to make a substantial claim and the process was seamless and pain-free and pet plan paid with no complaint or query which at the time of the stress felt was appreciated I m currently ensuring my younger cats with pet plan and my older cats with many pets The reason for this is once my cats reach 5 years of age the premiums double compared to other providers who offer more cover for half the price I m not talking about cheap insurers as I use many pets who provide higher level of cover and I have had to recently claim off them and again there was no query and they paid with no problem all the vet bills Pet plan sell their policies as lifetime cover but what is the point if the premiums become so expensive as your pet gets older that you are forced to swap policies I don t want to swap policies I am happy with pet plan I wanted to stay with pet plan but the increase in premiums forced me to change once again I did phone the support team and to be honest I found it a bit patronising as their answer to the high premiums was to reduce my cover I m not stupid I know less cover makes it cheaper but that is not the solution To summarise I cannot praise pet plan enough for the way they have settled my claims in the past but be prepared to either pay extortionate premiums or change insurer as your pet gets older

I was told as we had already paid the

I was told as we had already paid the bill in full that the claim would be refunded to us directly however it has been paid to our vets

Beware of insurance limitation with older pets

Customer service very good easy to contact staff polite and helpful but please beware of insurance limitations We have had our Lhasa Apso insured with pet plan classic life cover since puppy in 2012 At the time of taking out the policy we were not aware that once dog reaches the age of 10 years the age when he is more likely to require veterinary treatment the insured has to find to pay for 20 of all the costs This applies to one off treatments and life time ongoing condition as is the case with our pet So potential customers beware new pet owners may want to consider keeping money aside if possible for veterinary treatment as an alternative to undertaking the crippling insurance costs and reducing benefits you will incur as your pet gets older

Good for claims but awful when IT problems happen

Yes Petplan are expensive and yes my policies go up each year for my two old cats However given that one is 20 years old and the other 13 I expect and accept these rises However they have always paid out promptly and have been helpful in that respect Why only 3 stars then Because I have found that their IT systems are not fit for purpose and their IT responses to problems are slow Firstly they mixed up my cats details with my ex-wife s cat s details They also sent my confidential information to my ex-wife and vice-versa which was a breach of the GDPR regulations It took several phone calls and finally a letter threatening the company with being reported to the Information Commissioner s Office before it was sorted Next I had problems with my homepage which they put down to a computer glitch Finally I tried to log-in today to make a claim put the correct password in and then discovered that my account had been locked I phoned the company and spoke to a very nice call operator who answered promptly and tried to sort the problem She couldn t and said that she had escalated the problem to the IT Dept This will take 5-7 days apparently If a company wants people to use use and trust their website then they need to design one that actually works all of the time

Efficient but expensive

Very efficient and hassle free with claims never had any issues with pay outs and everything has always gone direct through the vet without any real need to involve me A lot of vets work direct with Pet Plan so you can just give them your policy number and they can do everything on their end usually without the excess admin fee most vets require for completing paperwork However they don t pair their service with affordability Each year the premium goes up an extortionate amount and there s no wiggle room on that you take it or leave it So after 9 years I have decided to leave it It is no longer affordable and they noted in the very small print of my renewal documents that the following year would also include an additional 20 compulsory excess of any total claim cost because of my dog s age That could have been devastating if I had to make a large claim and hadn t noticed the change I ve now found another insurer that s significantly cheaper per month provides a lifetime policy that covers me for double the yearly amount I could afford with Pet Plan and has NO hidden excess surprises So disappointed to be let down in my dog s golden years She has no ongoing conditions and I ve not claimed in many years but that sadly contributes nothing when it comes to pricing It s such a shame as I can t fault the service

Not as advertised petplan insurance

1I have been with Petplan for nearly 10 years for my dog He had to have an emergency operation 2 week s ago When I made my claim I was told I have to pay an excess of 90 00 and a further 20 cost towards the operation Every month I pay Petplan 40 00 in the belief he will be fully covered with insurance but do not receive it when I made my claim I will consider all this when my insurance is up for renewal

Disappointed in customer service

Have been a loyal PetPlan customer for over 30 years Recently my dog died and I contacted them to find out about ending her policy I got no response from PetPlan other than an email not in reply to my email saying I d had a refund on my policy I emailed them again to ask if they could confirm if that means her policy had been ended and they ve just not replied at all Not even an email to say we re sorry your dog died we confirm the policy has been closed thanks for being a PetPlan customer for 13 years I feel sad that after 13 years of paying into my dog s policy under which I ve made no claims they ve can t even be bothered to actually have a human being reply to email about ending my policy when my dog has died Maybe I am just soft and old fashioned
