Update to my Romans review

It has been a painful experience to move into a property rented through Romans The team would come across as very professional but deliver sub standard service in every way We paid them 800 as the tenancy fees and they could not even get the toilets working before the inventory check in The property has been ill managed everything seems to be broken or is in state that it will break soon When I raised the complaint I was told they could not find a contractor to fix the things and went to the extent saying I had viewed the property and knew what condition it was in Never ever rent through Romans they are the worst lettings agent and property management company you would want to get stuck with in Reading I have rented through Davis Tate and Haslams before and they are 100 times better and more honest than the people employed at Romans Please avoid them Update After the initial trustpilot review the team was quick to act The management looked into the issues on priority and even refunded back 50 of the fees to compensate for the inconvenience I had faced The property manager Pooja Chanda was very understanding from day 1 she made sure all issues that came up later were resolved asap She really looked after us as tenants

Use your own local solicitor

I have used Romans for many years buying selling and letting a number of properties through tem I have always found them helpful and reliable Most of all I have found the staff to be fair and honest a must for me in this industry My update to the previous review Since this review I have had a few problems with this company when using the no deposit option for rentals I have struggled to recover money owed with one deposit going through the arbitration service Roman s did not cover my needs very well in the process and I ended up a few thousand out of pocket on one checkout Others have been ok but it s always a bit difficult to recover losses I will update again after the latest checkout and loss recovery

First property that i have rented through this company

We were renting with Romans so we sold through Romans and we even purchased through Romans When Romans suggested we used Lifetime legal we thought it would make more sense than our previous solicitor more straight forward perhaps Unfortunately not Lifetime legal assigned us Ackroyed legal they were useless Having spoken to Lifetime legal I thought everything was at hand but turns out 2 months elapsed and they hadn t even started the process of selling our flat The whole process was extremely stressful fortunately a trainee at Acroyed legal had to take over our file ironically she was much better than the solicitor we were originally dealing with Fortunately for us and Romans the moving manager was faultless and helped us through the stressful experience

The move manager was totally useless

First property that i have rented through Romans Some staff there are absolutely amazing and a god send until they have your money and then it can feel like you are jumping through what ever hoops they throw at you The day before i was due to move in they didn t even have record of me transferring 2 5K to them Roll on no more agent s fees because these are beyond excessive

Improving communication

The selling of the service is excellent once that process has been completed the communication is sometimes poor always by email and automated I pay for a service but I m still required to carry out all the work eg assess inventory report pre and post tenant I would expect them to inform me of the issues recommendations etc and then let me decide whether I need to address accept decline etc I dont apportion any blame to the inexperienced people I deal with but its clear the support mechanism or training is not in place to assist these individuals development

Move Manager Alison Savva fantastic Find your own solicitor Lifetime Legal not recommended

Move Manager Alison Savva did an amazing job If it had not been for her my sale would never have reached completion Many thanks Alison for your hard work and professionalism Lifetime Legal - I would not recommend using this service to anyone They are now dealing with my ongoing complaint against the conveyancing solicitor Melia Mumford who they placed me with Although Life Time Legal s complaints department are being helpful I feel that they need to thoroughly review the firms they place clients with Earning almost 1000 as a finders fee for placing clients with solicitors who are unable to offer a satisfactory level of customer service is unacceptable I wish I had chosen my own solicitor and regret signing up with Lifetime Legal

Annoyances

I was invited by Romans on three separate occasions to write a review I am the executor of my father s estate and there was also a Trustee It took Romans several weeks to get the property on the market this was due to Romans insisting on a third party company for legal documentation who wanted us to download an app I chose not to deal with the third party company nor would I download the app as my mobile was an old one plus I didn t feel it fair to force the Trustee to do the same Instead I asked to deliver documents to Romans electronically Romans refused to accept this proposal All went quiet for several weeks Parkers Joint agency were working hard on getting the property sold so I wasn t too fussed In the end Romans accepted electronic documentation Second annoyance I didn t request or seek Romans opinion on Parkers my business with Parkers was very good Yet Romans felt obligated to give me a bad appraisal on Parkers saying how shocking they were and they had given me bad advice I can honestly say Parkers treated us well Final annoyance the slow progression of the eventual sale by Romans next to no updates and no sense of urgency to complete In the event however Romans did successfully sell the house for us

Not the best agent we have used

They were good until the house sold and then didn t seem to care They also lost my house key Took over a week and lots of chasing to get the lock changed The sales team were fab but once my house sold and it was passed on to a new team whilt the purchase completed and surveys were run etc contact ceased and for this reason I wouldn t use them again I wanted updates and feedback and this was not available

Skye was assigned as the property

Skye was assigned as the property manager for my let out property recently He was very responsive and followed up things very well He was much better than many previous property managers If Skye had been looking after our propertyich earlier I would give a higher rating
